Maybe he plans on peaking for Outdoors? Not sure when his contract is up, but if he wants another outdoor title he needs to be healthy at round #1.

Why, because I called it?

I'm probably as big a fan of Eli as anyone on this board, but as I said earlier I am a realist. I can call a spade a spade. The sun is setting, but Eli has had a heck of a career.

Very small chance to get a SX title again in my opinion.

If Eli suddenly bows out of the sport after this season who could blame him? I don't want that but if the fire is gone he should probably do just that. He has built a great life for himself by all indications. You can't go on riding at 10 or 11 tenths forever. Just ask RC.

IF he has in fact re-upped for 2 more years, does he run all 5 seasons (3 MX + 2 SX), or do a K-Roc/Webb deal and skip outdoors to freshen up at another tilt in SX? Or does he consider that his best opportunity at another title is outdoors, and lay up the rest of this SX season? Or neither and I continue making tin foil hats?

Looking at how Revitalized Roczen was after taking last summer off, I wonder if Tomac does the same and takes the rest of the summer off! He has missed 1 race since the start of 2016, the burn out has to be real.

I didn't want to be the person to call it, because I really am a huge Eli fan.

I'm guessing he just doesn't have that extra 1% after having his little girl, but just a complete guess on my part. Nothing wrong with that, if that is the case.

That would take a hell of a turnaround . I've never seen him look this bad outdoors.

Been a fan of the guy since his 250 days. He's given us a hell of a show over his career. Hard to see him running around where he is when we've become so accustomed to seeing him battling up front. I hope the new team brings some spark back before he calls it.

Pick one:

(a) Injured and hiding it;

(b) burnt out after racing pro for 11 years;

(c) in "Dad" mode and not wanting to take as many risks as he used to.

(d) all of the above.

Everyone has a theory. Here's mine:

Something in the relationship between the Tomac camp and Kawasaki went sour last season in the outdoors, or in the off-season before SX. At this point, neither party really wants to be with each other and they are just riding this out. For Kawi, if they terminate the deal they pay and get nothing so it's better to keep him on the track. For Eli, he's over it and not going to risk injury racing for a brand that's he's fallen out with. He's just there to get paid.

Is it unprofessional by Tomac? Perhaps, but sport is business.

I cant think he would have any motivation to hide an injury at this point. If anything, being a lame duck at Kawasaki, this would be the perfect time to be injured and just take the summer off. After all, I don't think he's missed any time since he wadded up at Thunder Valley in 2015.

If he's burned out I don't understand why he would keep going. He's made a lot of money and it's not like his parents went in major debt getting him there. They were successful pro athletes. He could even take a year off and still get a ride with a top team.

(Z) he has no interest in doing good with Kawasaki

That would also mean, not doing good for Eli’s bank account.

I'm not really a Tomac fan, but before you burn him at the stake, Kawasaki is WELL KNOWN for pulling "special" parts off of riders bikes that have announced they were leaving the team. They have done it to almost every rider in the past.

Not saying its the whole reason, but I can almost bet it's 95% of the reason.

Imagine the optics: Eli has a terrible year on the Kawi then goes on to win the title next summer on a Yamaha.

Not sure if Kawi benefits from sabotaging Eli.

How many mechanicals has he had?
How many titles has that affected?
Now, imagine that coming up during “negotiations”...
That’s my guess.

But, no worries. Eli leaving opens the door for someone-else...
Eli going to another team creates excitement in The World of Moto.

Change is gonna be good in 2022.
