Ryan Villipoto Whiskey Throttle Show

I normally wouldn't post or comment on anything, but I really wanted to hear what RV had to say about a lot that GL just kept interrupting him on. Stfu and let the man talk. How no one pointed this out to him is surprising to me.

Dude GL is just brutal this episode. I’m about 90 minutes in and every question to RV he feels the need to give his input and make it about him. Please tell me this was a one off thing and that he’s not back on the show..
Luckily RV has a strong conversation skill, as he still managed to strong arm GL and get his point out most times.

I'm fine if Grant comes back at some point... but give that man a muzzle!

GL has that “drunk uncle bullshitting” vibe and I think it’s great. He could definitely shut up a little more, but it is what it is. I think he makes a great addition to Ping.

Hands down my favorite moto podcast. I appreciate the diversity in guests. I’m sure they wouldn’t be the highest viewed episodes, but I’d love to see some off road guys from the east side of the country on there. Or even a Taylor Roberts since he’s a little closer.

My only actual complaint is that the ad’s aren’t just reads. Seems like the “content” during the ad’s can be just as entertaining as the rest of the show. But I really just want to skip through how great the Power Dot is and get back to the guest! Everyone’s got bills to pay I guess.

I for one missed GL when he was gone. Though I like the idea of having specialized co interviewers that can relate to the guest, I think most riders can relate to GL. He makes the show a lot funnier and when he pipes in with his own stories, I think it makes the guests open up and feel more comfortable. It's more of a conversation and less of an interview.

GL reminds me of my in-laws that have to interrupt everyone’s store to twist it about them...

There is SOOOO fucking much in RV's career, and from every interview he's ever done, he doesn't remember that much. RV won more titles than everyone but RC, and probably battled more of the top riders ever to get them done...

So many good wins in his rookie year, 07 and 08 alone before he even sniffed a 450. Feel like Ping needed weeks to prepare notes to really get in to this career.
I hear you... tough part is, particularly in a live show when we can't break it up into two segments, I can only run the show...
I hear you... tough part is, particularly in a live show when we can't break it up into two segments, I can only run the show so long. We still went almost four hours. That said, I'm going to make some changes to the way we do live shows moving forward and I think it will be a much better format.
We also had some audio issues, due in part to the aluminum construction of the butler building we were in. Not exactly ideal acoustics, lol. I've talked to RV about doing a follow up in our TLD studio, and he is going to jump in and co-host some shows with us moving forward. Thanks for the support!

Oh, and banger guest coming in this week... stay tuned.
Cheers for taking it the right way. Really enjoy the show, and tbf, some of the old timers probably work better when it's a little loose, because A) how the hell would you find the results and Cool they're probably better at telling stories by now.

I've heard RV enough on Pulp or RX over the years to know he doesn't know or really remember shit, probably one of the reason's he was so good...

Audio isn't a killer for me as I listen to headphones while I work but appreciate it's a pita and one of the many things that are hard to get just right.

Keep going!

Guess Im not the only one who felt GL wasnt on his game this show. Could of been the rust or the vodka or just an off night. No biggie. Thanks Ping and TLD and all the other sponsors. One of my favorite Dirt Bike pods out.

Love the show and this episode was probably the best so far! Awesome to have GL back in this one. Im not too fussed about him interrupting sometimes tbh.

Something that I found intresting tho, Ryan says he used the 998 twinwalls...but the Villopoto version is the 996s, arent they? So he didnt use his own bend?

The part about Ryans dad had me tearing up at work..heavy stuff.

Awesome work Ping.

IIRC, it absolutely HAS been pointed out before. My memory isn't always the best, but I recall a thread a year or so ago that was almost exactly like this one. Ping said he would talk to GL about his tendency to interrupt the guest to tell a story of his own.

Just finished, good interview the crowd yapping noise was the only issue for me.

The end had me in tears as well.

Until I read all the complaining about Grant on here I really didn't notice him interrupting. Then it was all I could focus in on! Haha thanks guys. No complaints other them maybe having better notes on some of his career highlights. Did they even bring up the 2007 MXdN? And not remembering who was his biggest competition was in 2008? Some guy name Ryan Dungey

I loved that episode. I tried to find where GL over stepped and shut the interviewee down and told his own story. He did that, yes. But when he was done, Ryan stepped back in and completed his story. I don't feel like we missed anything, caused by GL. There were a few times that GL, from personal experience, was able to elaborate on something and help Ryan explain/tell his side of things. There were some parts where facts could have been available, but the main story got out. Great job Ping and GL. As y'all said in the interview, "haters gonna hate!"

Ryan V is very enjoyable to listen to as he's who he is. You can tell there is no BS. GL adds value he just needs to know when to zip it. GL sometime thinks the interview is about him... it's about the guest and the guest's experiences. GL had his own show already.

But I do like GL... he has a realness about him too. Keep up the good work Ping etc.. don't let the bastards get you down! )

It was interesting to me that he couldn't remember certain things. But then would remember specific jumps / sections of tracks. It's crazy how some of these guys will remember everything about their racing years and others not so much.

For a moment there I thought they were not going to mention the J-Law incident. Then they finally brought it up.

You know what is weird with my memory is I can't remember things from last month, but remember things in GREAT detail (usually moto specific) from 30-40 years ago!!! Woohoo

I also recall what year I was doing something from that era from what bike I owned at the time. Cheerful

Any of you guys like that?

Love the show....but damn I spent a ton of time yelling at my truck radio telling GL to STFU. He has value, but he needs to be a better listener and stop talking over the guests. If he talked 50% less it would still be too much!!

RV is a Legend!!

Really enjoyed listening to RV on this pod. I haven't enjoyed the two drunken performances with he and Jake n Coke at Pulp. Anyhow, this was fun, interesting, real, and sure GL gets gabbing sometimes. But it was one of my favorite Whiskey Throttle Shows! Good job Ping.

EVERY appearance on Pulp, he's been off on years, races, riders etc. Honestly so much it's bizarre – a lot of the guys don't seem to remember wild swaps or almost crashes etc but still remember the key points. RV is almost like he was sort of paying attention from the sidelines rather than right in the middle of it.

Matthes is actually pretty sloppy with race detail of the Chad/Ricky/James/RV/Dungey era, better pre all that... so it can be maddening listening to them cluster up a race recall part.

On a lighter note, Pings man-scaping commercial was a fucking riot... especially when RV jumped in. I was listening to it on a packed flight home today and start laughing out loud. Oh by the way STFU regarding GL.

Hey Ping,
Just to say great show, funny as hell and serious when it needed to be. Just want to say thanks for all your efforts to save Dan Villopoto, that's hard man doing CPR on someone you know and eventually having to give the call they have passed.
Respect and kudos again for your job in the Fire service.
