I've also made a few parts for customizing my road bike. Much less strain on the parts than for motocross, but plenty of creativity allowed. I've cut the back off to make it a bobber and needed to cover up the top of the battery and under the new seat. This cover was made in 6 interlocking parts as it was too big for my printer

To add an LED headlight I needed something to hold it in place, so again I 3D printed this housing. Final version was constructed from 4 different parts that fit together.

To move the licence plate off the fender and down to the side I needed a bracket. Bought a steel one but it wasn't quite where I wanted it and didn't look that great. So I printed this 5 part one that all fits together. These road bike parts are a learning process, might do some more mx stuff next.

Would love to get someone to 3D print some of the 92-96 CR250 radiator grille guards. Those things are as rare as Bigfoot riding a unicorn.

Shoot me a PM, I might be able to help with that.

I was working on a neighbor kids CRF150F. The starter post insulator shattered (the part just below #10) and you can not buy it separately. The only way to get that part is to buy a new starter $240 or used ebay.

I recreated it using Tinkercad.com and printed it out at my school (i'm a teacher). Works great.

The RC (Radio Controlled Racing Industry) is really changing quickly because of 3d Printing. There is even many established companies using as a means of production. When the real "metal" printers decrease in price and complexity... I cant wait to see what garage builders will do with moto.

Imagine.... In 20-30 years you will be able to buy a few main items from the bigger companies (rims, tires, electronics, motor... etc) and print the rest of the bike on your friends new "super Non-ferrous metals 5000 XL printer" (Available at select Walmarts and Granger tools for $69.95) and BOOM!..... Factory machine that just needs assembly.

I could see something like a company called Open-Moto (think Linux OS). A open source designed bike that has a community of support for a bunch of privateers. A program where armchair quarterbacks could really make a difference and actually submit designs and ideas to help the "teams" bike.

But then again.... Id prob just buy another KTM as I am lazy and I hate Linux. haha.

It has a future for sure. Along the same lines as garagedog, on the rmx and dr odometer drive, is a spiral cut gear that you cant buy separate. I found files for them on thingyverse and printed one in petg. Works like a charm and saved myself from buying the whole assembly.

Nice sprocket guard, your design? Might as well make a frame cap for that s/a axle next.

Ya it’s just loosely biased off the stock one that was broken

Thank you all for sharing your imagination and making some very cool stuff. I especially like the fork lugs.
Here are a couple more things that printed up. This is a test fit prototype, it's cut from Delrin.

Some super cool uses in this thread! That valve cross section makes me really excited for metal printers to get cheaper.

Here's a headlight I made for a '14 KTM 300. Guts are Hella Black Magic 500. It's a halogen lamp so I was a bit concerned about the heat...and of course vibration shaking it to bits. I ended up using NylonX (carbon fiber / nylon). I ran some heat tests with the lamp powered on in the stock bucket and clocked it at 240F max (shooting my laser temp gun inside the bucket.) The NylonX supposedly doesn't start to degrade until 280F. The nylon would hopefully allow the part to flex a bit under vibration.

CAD design:

Printed in ABS at highest resolution for test fitment. This took 4 days!! (using Raise3D Pro2)

Made some tweaks to the positioning notches then printed in CF and started sanding for paint:

:

I ended up removing the logo. It wasn't coming out very clear being on the bed surface.

So far it's holding up without any issues.

^^^That came out awesome! The Raise 3D is a great printer once you get the god awful bed leveling figured out, we had once at the last place I worked. I’m curious, did you screw with the set screw system long enough to get it right, or did you convert to a 3 point system?

Unfortunately I don't know. It's my buddy's machine.

Ah, you're the guy who makes the YZ250 trans jig. Bought and used one this past December/January for my rebuild. Such a time saver!

My brother made me this bracket to fit a 17-20 CRF front number plate to my old 06 CR 125. He also made it so I can include my our meter on the bolt hole.

I hit the start gate a year and half ago and broke the guides for the fork guards. Drafted up a new set when I got home and printed in ABS. Second try was a charm and not more then $1-2 in material. Still on the bike with no issues.
I was going ask if someone could make me a set..let me know if you can help me out

I still have the files and access to the same printer so I should be able to print a set. PM me and I'll help you out.

It will be tricky if you try FDM without support material but I subbed it out. I'd really like to machine it out of Aluminum but we only have manual machines at work.
