For the premium market, here are some real sales numbers:

Harley sold 180,000 bikes globally last year:
https://investor.harley-davidson.com/our-company/motorcycle-retail-sales

BMW sold 170,000 bikes globally in 2020:
https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0324570EN/bmw-mot…

KTM group sold 270,000 bikes globally in 2020:
https://www.pierermobility.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Annual-Report…
(this report also breaks down the KTM/husky/gasgas/ebikes numbers if you scroll down into it

Harley has the Cadillac problem, buyer base that is literally dying off and an image problem similar to Cadillac..

Note: The KTM numbers are not really solely "Premium" since about a quarter of their global sales are Bajaj bikes.

I'm not sure what specifically they mean by "small displacement KTM and Husky models are build by Bajaj" maybe is the small displacement Duke models. direct quote from page 6 of the report:

"270,407 motorcycles sold of the KTM, HUSQVARNA and GASGAS brands (previous year: 280,099)"

They state that 140,000 were built at the plant in Austria, I think its safe to assume that's the premium stuff, and 3100 bikes were built in Spain (GG trials bikes I'd guess)

Bajaj on the other hand sold around 4 million 2 wheelers, you can see their December report below where they sold 385,000 bikes in December alone: https://www.bajajauto.com/press-release/PRESS-RELEASE-NOV-2020.pdf
and you can see their annual number 3.947M 2 wheelers sold in 2020 here: https://www.bajajauto.com/press-release/Press-Release-December-2020.pdf

Don't forget that 1 billion people live in India, which is more people than NA/EU combined and the primary mode of personal vehicle transport is 2 wheels

Are we ever going to get a KTM TPI SX 125 or 150? Just want to know so I can either look for a used one and wait it out or go ahead and get a new one.

Is this real news? I wanna know! Im getting ready to buy a new yz 125...I would prefer a ktm as Im sick and tired of Yamaha just releasing the same bike every year..im a loyal Yamaha guy, but im more loyal to my dealer who puts so much back into our sport..dont wannacdrop $ 10.5 k on basically a 2005 model bike if they actually do have a new one coming..
I heard from someone directly helping develop it that they are coming. It’s been a while since I heard that so not sure how far out it is.

They make a line of small KTM branded small displacement streetbikes that go for as low as under $2000 for the global and Indian market. And yes, they make the small displacement Duke models.
https://ktm.bajajauto.com/

It is a significant part of the KTM brand.

Rumor. CR250R Two Stroke. Utilizing 2007 Motor Engineering with advanced port timing, and a unique balanced frame geometry.
2007 with a new motor.
That’s chassis is still one of the best chassis ever

I can't see that happening anytime soon. Don't wait out, you might be waiting for 5 years or more.

Or just get a TE 150i and set it up for moto.

Interesting do you have any inside knowledge? I thought they would eventually bring tpi over to the moto bikes.

No, no inside information at all. But i just can't see the current TPI system being brought over to the MX bikes. The TPI came to be because of emissions regulations so that they could be road legal.

a yz 250 runs stronger than a tpi 250. i think it will be a while until the 250 sx runs the tpi engine.

Interesting. I’d be curious what someone that knows these motors could do to make it run stronger for Mx riding. I kind of figured tpi would go on the sx bikes to streamline there production. They also put it on the XC bikes which don’t have to pass emissions to my knowledge and are close course bikes.

I prefer the 21.5" myself. They generally feel more stable.

ya'll really want there to be a new YZ125

Yamaha will discontinue the YZ125 before giving it a complete overhaul with new frame, plastic, engine, etc

I don’t care at all about them really, just relaying what a test rider told me.

I'd be willing to bet $50 that Yamaha does not redesign the YZ125 for 2022. Redesign doesn't mean BNG or minor engine and suspension upgrades. I mean full new bike.

I'm willing to put $50 up on that bet. Are you?

I doubt it will be a 22 since it would have been leaked by now. And for all I know they scrapped the whole thing, it was about 18 months ago. And not sure why I’d lie about this, what do I have to gain exactly?

Do you have a link to the thread? I must’ve missed the potentially new YZ125 buzz.

I don’t remember a thread about it, I talked to the rider directly.

New YZ 2 strokes are a possibility? With the partnership with Fantic Motor selling YZ 125/250's under the Fantic name has upped production numbers. Fantic takes a Yamaha and puts on their plastic and wheels, red and white color scheme. With the 2 stks. Yamaha still sells and the numbers Fantic wants has brought the 125/250's from the back of the line to the front. New YZ 2 stks. are more possible now than the last 15 years!

Fantic YZ 250.
Fantic just bought out Minarelli who was their Yamaha connection. Word is they are going to build their own version in China. Either way they are doing very well in MX and Enduro so far. Unfortunately no distribution in the U.S. so far and very little in Europe.
The street model Caballero was announced a few years ago, a really cool Scrambler thumper concept, but has never made it over here.
