You guys have all gone to great lengths to explain the not so good, and the worst of the broadcast, but let's all be honest... Regardless of how they display content, we are all going to watch. It's not like stick and ball sports. There isn't another race on a different channel. They got us by the "boo-boos", and they know it. We are always going to watch, so we are not the one's they are trying to please. It's the new viewers who increase the numbers, who in turn attract new and bigger sponsors. THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE CORE FAN... Follow the $'s.

If a new fan isn't interested in the stuff Blair is showcasing, they aren't going to stick around anyway.

Not the same conversation. Rutledge is running his mouth about growing the sport. We don't matter about growing the sport, your argument PROVES that. We aren't changing the channel no matter what, so we aren't a part of the conversation he was attempting to have with DV and Steve. He insults the core fans, and tries to make the point what he's doing is bringing in new fans. Which is the point I was making.

You're missing the point man. His 5 minutes on the broadcast aren't what most of us have a real problem with. It's his attitude and arrogance on Pulp that soured everything prior even more. He refused to listen to established personalities in the sport who DO know what they are talking about.
If our sport hasn't grown exponentially in the last 20 years, it's not going to. Those absolute dog fights between Stewart, Ricky, and Reed were the opportunity and it didn't really happen. A segment on flaggers isn't going to do it.
Core guys didn't like those segments, but a lot were willing to give Rutledge a pass because it probably wasn't HIS idea. We didn't expect him to turn down the job offer.
But again, it's his attitude on Pulp about the whole thing that dug his grave in this sport. He blew it last night.

I have said this before, go watch a Motogp broadcast. I would ask Rutledge to watch a Motogp race. They are PRIME examples of how motorcycle broadcasting should be. Informative, bright, intelligent.

I couldn't see why you guys were so upset by him (Still think some are overreacting haha) but yeah that was a hard listen cause I was trying very hard to give him the benefit of the doubt

But yeah he's definitely a knob ache..

I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but that was cringeworthy from the word go. I made it about 3 minutes and then started hitting the +30 sec FF button and every single time it was still his droning. Once I heard DV I stopped and listened to him take care of business. I rewound and listened to it all however. It takes a lot for me to be done with someone but that about sealed that coffin.

Agreed. A bit condescending and maybe he should make an effort to know who he will be talking to on the broadcast. He could even fake that he knows about stone spray sandwich. That would go a little way towards connecting with an icon of the sport.
Side note: loved DV’s characterization of RC’s dominance in our sport. I may not have known DV’s real feelings about him. Pretty damn cool.

How about how Rutledge is saying on Pulp how these guys not making the main need to be heard, meanwhile Pulp is the biggest source for those same riders being heard.

The crux of it is don't show up to one of the largest media outlets in the sport, shit on the fans, then say everything the sport is doing wrong with your only reason being "But what if you're wrong."

It's one thing to LS swap a '96 4x4 Ford van with 35" tires (because the 351 sucks), and entirely different thing to ruin the handling characteristics of a Porsche. 🤣🤣🤣

What do you know about Porsche? Lol, think Emory Motorsports would do a LS swap for me? If you look a Rutledge, Inst-O-gram no mention of Supercross, How is that growing our sport?

He can’t come out and say maybe we (the hardcore fans of the sport) are all wrong when we’ve been watching religiously for decades and he’s only been here for 5 minutes. We know the limitations of our sport, it’s not a mainstream sport and it never will be.

I’m a fan of pretty much all motorsport and a lot of stick and ball sports as well, Supercross has by far the worst produced broadcast of them all. It is so dumbed down to cater people that aren’t watching and will never watch in a way that no other sport seems to be. The commentary is boring, uninspiring and uninformative during the race and there is virtually no analysis after or in between the racing. We have a lot of dead time in the night show that could be used to properly analyse what has happened so far and how it will affect what’s to come, but they just fill that time with shit, like telling us where the flaggers come from or showing us how goggles work for the millionth time. It’s just infuriating to watch every week and Rutledge Wood is just another guy in a long line of people who have added to the dumbing down of our sport. I have no issue with him personally, at least I didn’t until he came out as if he knows better than the fans of the sport

Kudos to DV for stating the truth and not backing down. I thought Rut was an ok guy but just wrong for the supercross broadcast. After hearing him speak, I have changed my mind about the ok guy part

Too bad the stadiums are limited seating these days. Otherwise, we could organize a "wave" with people chanting, "Rutledge sucks" during the broadcast. That would put the nail in his coffin....

You know it could be done....remember how loud the stadium boo'ed Ferrandis.

DV apologized at the end of the show... kudos to him seriously. DV is defensive and doesn't respect outside perspective. He doesn't even know a cool French rider he supports runs Vortex sprockets. That's why moto die-hards love him.

Most post in the 10 pages are why the sport we love will never grow "mainstream". Our sport is trying to grow beyond and this forum is our place to support our insider mentality.

If anyone listened to other podcast from the past week...Daniel Blair is not being run out. Blair will grow to bigger and better things because he understands opportunity and future.

Good for Matthes for becoming the "Howard Stern" of our sport. Enjoyed the way he handled it in the heat of the battle. And again DV apologize for his actions at the end of the show....

As you probably know, Rod is my BFF and he wouldn't even do an LS swap for me (into a Porsche)! 🤣🤣🤣

Again you're missing the point.
Nobody is pissed because he's an outsiders or even because his segments on the broadcast are useless even to those "casual fans."
If someone from the outside came in and did some good, got more sponsor dollars, better segments to "reach new fans" MOST would welcome it!
What is ridiculous is a b-list "analyst" or whatever you want to call him, came in and did some terrible segments on our already terrible broadcast, and then goes on our largest media outlet and acted like he's the savior we didn't know we needed. THAT'S what people are done with.
Him coming to Supercross isn't a ploy to get crossover fans, in my opinion it's him getting demoted in a way.
Notice they aren't sending Jamie Little back. They aren't sending big names over.
And now the guy they did send is an arrogant and condescending fool.

Exactly. NBC could put the guy in the booth, and everyone here will keep watching and keep bitching.
And I don’t get it. I don’t watch the filler between races unless there’s an interview I want to catch.
I watch the racing.

To be clear, this guy didn’t just “come in”, he didn’t invade SX. He was hired.
This place bitches about RC, who is a core as core can be, bitches about Will because they can’t handle her mild British accent, Ralph, Diffey, .....

If it’s that bad, test your power, turn if off, don’t watch. See if NBC needs you. Maybe they do.

Or wait, maybe no one really cares that much, just enjoying bitching.

I never bitched about his role on the broadcast until he decided to disrespect DV and our biggest media outlet. He brought it on himself with his refusal to listen to ANYTHING they were saying. Compounded by his portrayal of himself as being our savior.
Yeah I agree the moto fans will bitch about absolutely ANYTHING, and it's ridiculous, but this is not that.
You don't come into the sport and demean the core demographic (those "bro's" unfortunately are a large part of our core) and expect everyone to just praise you for blessing us with your presence.
Ricky was terrible when he first got in the booth, and if ANYONE had a right to just say screw you guys I'm the GOAT, it was him. But he didn't. He obviously listened to the criticism and got SO MUCH better.
Rutledge had zero humility and did himself zero favors. Now he reaps the consequences. Welcome to the real world.

Understandable that Steve laid low, could be career limiting.

This wasn’t Rutledge’s first rodeo and he came in ready for bear. Jumped in the pool and made a big splash that only a belly flop could produce. Emphasis on flop.

Le Cobra gave him a reality check most understood, but Rutledge clearly did not. An opportunity to establish a connection with the moto community wasted....almost deliberately so.

I really could have cared less about him prior to the Pulp show.

A few notes:
Damn he is condescending.
Apparently is quite unhappy wih his childhood in Bama.
He likes assumptions. Assumes we MX/SX fans are fans of all motorsports. Fuck motorsports. Dirt bikes are the only motorsport I ever cared about. Same as a lot of my riding buddies. Can’t stand watching nascar, f1, outlaws, drag racing...............We’re just damned dirt bikers.

Now I will use his segments to go take a piss. Or maybe just a big ass #2.
