I havent had any issues at 38°F or so. Bike starts up fine for me, just make sure the idle is set right otherwise its a bitch to start and will stall and foul plugs.

I turned the idle up just a tad on mine, it cranks just a bit longer then my honda did but seems to start fine all the time hot or cold.

I wanted to see if I could get some insight from you guys and if anyone else is having the same issue. I have a 2019 YZ250F and it stopped running at about 13 hours on the bike (2 years ago), it had carbon built up on the valves and it got warrantied and fixed. I just did a top end at 65 hours on the bike because it would barely run anymore, and it had carbon on the exhaust valves, making them leak. What could cause this problem? I run the Keefer Free Feeling map, 1 tooth down on rear sprocket, and ran half/half T4/93 for most of that time.

On the app where is the idle showing for you? Mines just in front of the triangle above the 25 I would guess about 2100 approx judging by the app. Just curious what others have their idle set and where it’s showing on the app. Thanks

Does anyone have experience with the GYTR head and piston? It’s pretty awesome that Yamaha offers this stuff and I wonder how it compares to other tuners’ engine packages (Twisted, XPR, Pro Circuit, etc)

Yamaha should sell intake without screen like in that Gytr photo as option. In EU seems impossible to get No Toil kit and Twinair is just too expensive for simple fix.

Most shops I’ve spoken with say the GYTR kit is nice but very mild and leaves some performance on the table compared to what they could offer.

Edit: above speaking strictly about the head and cams. No idea what GYTR is doing with the Vortex.

I believe that Keefer did a test on this. He did mention this before, however he said they upped the anti on the new head

Went trail riding with my cousin last night, he has a 20 yz250f. His bike starts briefly, dies, and never starts again.

Bike cranks good and occasionally would sputter, backfired a couple times trying to bump start. He has had this happen before and culprit was fouled plug.

Anyone know why he's foulin plugs? He runs pump non-ehtanol 91. I cant remember a single time in my life that a carb 4 stroke ever fouled a plug.
solved:
Figured out the stock mapping is a lil rich for trail riding

That’s what I was 100% expecting. Maybe mine is just some sort of anomaly. Haven’t tried the front wheel yet. The 2020 rotors are different than the 2021. Full details, I used the 2020 wheel and spacers, 2021 axle, blocks and nuts.
Its the same setup as the 19 to 20 450. They went to a smaller rear rotor and counter sunk allen head bolts. You need the smaller rotor and a set of counter sunk bolts for your rear wheel.and you're good.. Your old front wheels should fit straight on

My YZ426 would foul a plug every 30 or so hours. It never conked out on me, it just all of a sudden wouldn’t start. Otherwise ran pretty well. But that’s the only four stroke I’ve had foul a plug.

Glad you got it sorted out.

What made you switch back if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve been looking at another 4 stroke at some point and a 250f has interested me. I’ve been strictly 250 two strokes forever with one 350 thrown in. Tried finding 350s and they are hard to find and almost 2
$2k more than a 250f.

Racing is why I switched back. Being in vet classes against 450s on a a 250 is a serious disadvantage. I thought maybe a fast motor would tip the scales enough to offset some, but there’s no comparing the two. I think the 250 is more fun to ride, so if you don’t race then go for it. I think if your skill lever is higher than your competitors most of the time you can make the little bike work, but if your on level with your competitors or just a tad under the 250 is tough.

The sport would be more fun and safer if the vet class CC limit was set at 250. I get there a bigger dudes who like the power of a 450, but for competition, most older guys who ride and race for fun and aren’t over 180-190 should be on a 250.

They currently have the freedom of choice now and most choose a 450, nothing is stopping them from buying a 250/350 yet they don't. From what I see even the practice only riders seem to choose the big bike most of the time.

It's weird because I think a lot of us could run better laps later in the day on a 250f, but the 450s pull so damn hard out of corners, not to mention the roost and start.

I tried to race a 250F because my lap times were better on a practice day. Once the race started and i couldn't always use the main line.....i got clobbered. I would go off the main line to make a pass and being on the 250F hampered my ability to switch lines and accelerate out of the deeper stuff. For stadium type tracks.....i prefer a 250F all day long.

Yeah for most I think it’s ego that’s stopping them.

So did your results change when you went to the 450? I’ve found I beat the same people whether I’m on a 125 or 250f or 350sxf and the same people beat me. Think whatever you are more comfortable on is more important than bike HP, but then again our vet class turn out hasn’t been the greatest and the biggest gate I’ve been on in the last 10 years or so has been around 20 riders

Congrats. I sold my 350 a couple weeks ago and still don't know when my YZF will be in. It's brutal lol. But been riding the 125 in the meantime.

I only raced the 250F at one “outdoor” style track. I did shitty so I switched back to my 450f and finished around where I always finish. I use the 250F for the stadium tracks only and for those tracks....the 450 is a disadvantage for me.

Plugged in the Over Rev map in last weekend. I really liked it how it lessened a bit of the engine breaking and I could hold 3rd quite a bit longer. Lost a touch of bottom but still run 3rd through some tighter turns.

So after two weekends of racing, yes they did.
