What the heck happened to this guys skills? He's the biggest fail this season. Dude looks like Dave Thorpe out there. How did it go so bad so fast?

Yeah, and he's on the best bike so that's certainly not the problem. He should be up there crushing it like all the other Suzuki's.

He should be making mains pretty easily I think. Possible he’s injured or the bike isn’t working that well for him. I’d guess he’s dealing with an injury

Moved up too early.

He got 2 SX podiums and 1 outdoor podium on a 250. Look at the 450 field, most of them are past 250 champions.

Matthes asked the team, not injured. Unless they straight up lied to him.

I don't think it was too early. Just the last part of your Comment is on point

Yeah I didn't think this move would work very well. He needs to be on 250's for another 2 years. I do think for him this is a eye opener for championship pace. But he could grow into the 450 class. The speed and skill set is there to build.

I was wondering about him just the other day myself. Didn't he win the Straight Rhythm a couple years ago. Either him or McElrath. They were both flying that year. He almost looks like a mid-pack 250 class rider right now, and I had some high hopes for him.

His drop off in the 450 class is insane he went from a Podium contending race winning 250 Rider to a writer that is in the 22 15th Place range and sometimes struggles to make Mains something is amiss here and I will tell you no prejudiced against Suzuki but his bike looks terrible on the track

Why did he made the move to 450s? Is he pointed out?

He is 5 races into his rookie 450 season! Give him a break. He started 250 supercross in 2018 and is now on 450s for 2021. That's not very long in 250s. He switched bike brands and classes. For him to stay healthy and off the couch is the main goal.

450s are tough. Dude would prob be sitting 2nd or 3rd right now in 250 East with a podium nearly every race.

But even guys who regularly beat him in 250s like Ferrandis, McElrath, Sexton will probably have quite a few finishes in the teens.

I’m pretty sure this was his only real offer at a paid ride.

Could've raced 250 this year, but probably didn't have a good ride lined up so took the 450 ride that was offered.

Maybe he needs to cut the track and run with the leaders a while like he did in 2018. That really gave him some confidence and showed everyone he's got the speed. Silly

Nothing, it just shows the real level of 250 regionals, racing half the people in half the races.

Me too, still trying to work out why riding like Dave Thorpe is a bad thing.

He doesn't look the same on the 450. He looked great last year. Right now in LCQs he's getting worked by Chiz, and Chiz would not have been getting podiums in the 250 class last year.

I think the HEP Suzuki’s setup is way way off.
Their suspension looks horrendous everywhere.
Hard to go fast when your riding a 4x4 post.

I feel for the guy. He 100% deserved a 250 ride and didn’t get it. The jump to 450 was too soon, but you got to go where the money is. I was really routing for him coming into the season, but this is basically where I expected him to be finishing.

The dude is not slow! The 450 class is just that goddamn fast with previous 250 champions and runner ups. Needless to say when your confidence is hurting as well (which I’m sure it is) your results will dwindle.

Would love to see him get a breakout ride around that 10-12th spot.

People keep saying the 450 class is fast, and it is, but watch Hartranft ride. Clearly he isn't flowing and isn't comfortable or 100%. Maybe it's setup, but he really looks like he's fighting to get around the track. He can do better, and I hope he figures out whatever is bothering him.
