Long story short I had to get a car for a previous job.. well fast forward two years I beat the car to piss and now I ride almost every weekend that im out of college I really could benefit from a truck. I have an old yukon that costs me nothing I use with a moto jack. Although she's a 6.0 with 160k miles and she's tired.. I have been told after the first quarter both our industry and the car industry should be back to "normal" inventory. I have a solid job, not a ton of expenses, and have 6k I can put down. I have waited all of covid to get a truck but im tired of waiting and feel like my car and yukon are ticking timb bombs. So do I man up and wait for who knows how long.. Or man up, bite the bullet and try to find a deal (LOL) before tax refunds or potenially more stimulus? Truck prices are driving me bonkers.
The best “do it all”, in my opinion, is a full-size crew-cab w/6.5’ bed. From a purely Moto standpoint, an extended cab long bed is the most productive (load 5 bikes in the bed with the tailgate up!).
Hell, you can get a good deal on a Transit or Sprinter Van, too!
Ford has the Ranger avail for some really good deals, too. I’ve got a Colorado ZR2 and it’s a great little truck; but, lately GM hasn’t been very good on the “warranty” side of things...so, I’ve been getting Ford’s (they’ve been amazing on warranty and maint. stuff...from Raptors to Transits, they’ve been awesome).

2021 has a better looking front end, should be out in a few months.
A few months ago I bought my 2020 Tacoma double cab short bed 4x4 trd offroad, after an idiot blew through a red light totaling my 2015 tacoma, for $35k out the door. I love this new 2020 more than any truck I've owned before. The one I have is a crew cab, short bed, and does all I want it to. The bed although small, fits two bikes and all our gear perfectly, cab is much larger than in the past and is pretty comfortable with some cool new options, and because it is a mid size truck with a short bed, it's easy to keep it as a daily driver and be able to park downtown.
That said, if you often use your truck for things like hauling lumber, heavy payload in the bed, or towing a lot, I wouldn't get a tacoma.
My personal vote is Tacoma, but I am toyota tacoma fan boy so take my opinion for what it's worth .
I have a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 for a company truck, it was new when I got it, the quality of my Tacoma puts the GMC to shame.

My 46k silverado was worth 31k 9 months later and with 15k miles. That 6k you are putting down will be instantly gone once you drive the truck off the lot.
I now drive a 2015 Tacoma. Its a basic truck but the resale value is wild on these. I could sell my truck for 25k when it was 30k new 6 years ago. And it has 80k miles on it.
I know people frown on leasing but if I were to buy any new American truck I would lease. Drive it for 3 years, turn it in and let it be someone else headache after the warranty expires. The new American stuff just isn't what it used to be as far as quality.
25 mpg
No payments
Edit: if I had a few extra grand I would have bought as new of a Tacoma as I could and be done with it, American made cars tend to be sacks of crap, but I’ve had good luck with the couple of s10 chevys I’ve had over the years
I own a 2013 F-150 5.0, it has been great, its 7 years old now and only 67k miles on it. No real issues. I would avoid an F-150 newer than 2014 though, the aluminum body from what I have read is much more costly to repair when you have damage.
Chevy/GM have had electrical/electronics issues from I believe 2014 on. I have passed so many newer Chevy's 2016 and newer for sure, that have one headlight out. Notice how many times Chevy has changed the design on their headlights after 2014? My guess is cuz they can't figure out the problem.
