Given something like that can occur from just the common cold, really puts in perspective why everyone should be taking Covid more seriously than the common cold. Even if just for the fact that it is transmitted between people much easier then the common cold.

I guess the other option is throw our hands up in the air and wait to see what it does and who it kills. I'm not sure how many at risk friends and family everyone else is willing to lose, but i'm not ready to stick a fork in any of mine.

I guess i look at it from a different point of view because my country has been very successful lately, in that we have basically zero community transmission, i just don't understand why countries riddled with it aren't striving to do better. It is possible.

You are right population density helps, but Australian cities and US aren't as different as you might expect.
the country as a whole obviously its much lower, but 95% of the population live on the coast, and the vast majority of that on the east coast. we dont have a single major city inland
the city I live in has a population of about 5 million, yet haven't had a single case for well over a month, despite having the biggest outbreak in the country a few months ago.
Obviously we have a lot of factors that make it easier to control compared to the US. there is no denying that.
But we have few restrictions now, businesses are open, the economy is doing pretty well all things considered.

It's not an Aus vs US debate, but most aussies are rightly proud of how we have handled it, the economy has performed better than most, and we have one of the lowest death rates per million in the developed world.

So i think it is fair for us to be proud. and that statement has nothing to do with any other country.

I think what it comes down to is adherence to the the regulations. Nobody liked the lockdowns, but generally everyone behaved pretty well, got through it and we're basically back up and running. We've got capacity crowds at sporting events in some places. Havent had a death in months, no hospitalisation and basically zero cases outside of hotel quarantine of travellers coming from overseas. Seems like we're the land of the free at the moment.

How many cases in the US today? 200-300 thousand cases? I feel there is no other option then to pretend its not deadly over there because you cant pretend its not contagious or that you have it at all under control anymore.
There are so many variables that can dictate the penetration of Covid from one country to the next it's not easy to make meaningful comparisons.

But one thing's for sure, it's a socially aquired disease and ultimately it's people's social attitudes that will dictate how successful or not a nation deals with it.

Yea but, adhering to regulations means you're a freedom surrendering sheep person.

Can't have that.

In the interest of not seeing a rider, especially a title contender, miss any races I urge teams and riders to learn more about the PCR tests. Teams should demand that not more than 25-30 cycles be run on the PCR test. If you go beyond that range the false positive rate can be as high as 97%. Testers in the US routinely go past 35-40 cycles, which is driving this phony pandemic.

https://academic.oup.com/cid/advance-article/doi/10.1093/cid/ciaa1491/5…

Also look up Bill Sardi. Supposedly the Zelenko protocol of hydroxychloroquine, zinc and an antibiotic reduces the viral load. I read in a Bill Sardi article that taking zinc (I think with Quercetin) and/or garlic can help your chances of returning a negative on the PCR test. I say this not to help anyone with covid 19 to pass the test, but to help riders not get a positive result when they are in fact not actively sick with the virus.

I'm looking forward to the racing!

I probably shouldn't have said that as it only distracts from the info I was trying to share.

My comment is in regards to the cases that are driving the pandemic are the result of a PCR test being used in a manner which it was never meant to be used. Many people are getting "positive" results from their test when they do not have an active sars cov 2 infection thereby creating a phony pandemic. Please read the info in the link above and do your own research regarding the PCR test. I'd hate to see a rider miss races this upcoming season when they shouldn't have too. I also hate seeing our freedoms being infringed upon and small businesses going under due to unnecessary lock downs.

Gotta love Covid. It is a great disease. It beats all others hands down. One can get it, and never know they have it.. all the while killing everybody around them, and never know it. It can stop any activity, kill any small businesses, control holidays and send families into poverty and even cause suicides. One can even be arrested because of it. Lovely. Especially from a disease with such a high survival rate. Soon we will be forced to take a vaccine and it will not stop people from getting it again. Personally I think that it might be worth a little attention, but to give it such priority over work and feeding your family is not wise. We really need to check our priorities and reactions. Go ahead. Flame away, but after reading some of the nonsense here I just had to write. I say let them determine if they are ready and well enough to race. They are big boys and smart enough to decide for themselves.
Couldn’t agree more!!!

Research takes away from me time. The tv tells me all I need to know. Plus the scary graphics and adjectives they sprinkle in keeps it exciting!

There is a lot of really concerned folks in this thread. Obviously some think it is a fluke, others think it is the death of mankind, I am somewhere in the middle.

For the folks that have fears, can you please tell me what you plan to do once you are vaccinated? Do you plan to do a happy dance and go outside and take a big deep breath and move on with your life? Do you plan to still wear a mask? Do you feel that this virus is going to be eradicated completely with vaccines and mask usage and the world will start turning again?

I have Guillain Barre Syndrome and was paralyzed from the neck down (oddly enough, caused by the flu vaccine). Even if I wanted a vaccine, I could not have one. This puts me in a weird place with all of this mess, a much weirder place than anybody who hates masks and thinks this is bullshit, and also a much weirder place than the folks that feel this is the death of mankind. It is a different stress, I assure you - especially with the division and hate. With the vaccine hitting the states Monday, I am just really curious to see how folks plan to move on after vaccination.

They’re going to start the deterioration timer for themselves and may be entitled to compensation in 10 years if they made it that far.

I'm in the middle as well.

Careful and cautious, but not crazy over-reactionary.

Why not be careful? What's it hurt? If it saves one life, how can you say it's not worth it?

Weren't you taught "Better safe than sorry?"

Just wear a damn mask. Don't be an asshole about it, just do it. You don't need to wear it in your home, in the car, in the shower or when on your bike, but why is it so damn hard to wear one to the Piggly Wiggly?

You put on pants, I am sure you're dick would rather see the sites than the bullshit dark mess if has to live in now, but the law won't allow your dick to roam free, and no one has ever claimed your dick's rights were violated.

There's no need for people to go crazy either way.
Just do the right thing and wear a mask, even if it only saves one single piddly life....like maybe someone you love

I think his question is after the vaccine is released do the masks go away or do we just wear them forever? The fear mongering over this thing is unreal.

"IF" I was a factory SX rider in as good of health as they are I'd think seriously about purposely catching it right now which would give me time to get over it and carry some immunity all the way through the SX season, therefore negating the possibility of me having to miss a race due to Covid.
This could be risky for a number of reasons, but over time it seems like boot camps weaken immune systems in some guys, could actually lead to possibly the worst case scenario with COVID. On the other side getting COVID with no side effects would still be risky with testing and training hot and heavy. I feel for the community. For sure if you test positive once the season gets rolling your championship is over.

But what if the mask actually comprised 1 person's health? There is no proof mask work. People need to make decisions that are best for them and their health. I'm not downplaying the virus. I am against governors and mayors creating rules that make no sense, are not science based, and all the finger pointing going on in our society. Vital cant even get along. The government has succeeded in dividing us by race, wealth, and now health. I dont know where we go from here, but this much division cannot end well for our society.

Will you get the vaccine?

That's science based, is that what you've been waiting for?

People are still dying even with masks being required. So what's next, everyone wear a biohazard suit if it saves one life? Everyone lock themselves inside for the next 3 months if it saves one life? Everyone lose their job and go bankrupt if it saves one life?

A lot more people would be dying with no mask recommendations or wearing, and a lot less would be dying if everyone was doing it the way it is supposed to be done. Along with distancing and other recommendations. I dont think anyone is saying it will be completely eliminated by mask wearing. I just can't fathom people refusing to do something so simple 'just because'. People used to pull together for their fellow citizens. Seems those days are long gone.

Does the comparison of walking around with your dick out vs. having your face visible actually make sense to you?

Why is that hard?

If wearing a mask saves one life, was it worth it?

WWJD?

I assume you also think the same applies to seat belts? They don’t guarantee safety, what is next we all have 4 point harnesses and helmets to go to work?
No we use the best possible solution that is practical to have a positive effect on people’s health outcomes.
The only difference is that car accidents aren’t contagious.

Masks are the one thing that don’t effect people’s jobs, so fuck it why not wear them when we are in close contact with strangers? Just my opinion.

That wasn't my point. My point was where does it stop 'to save one life'. You know, that whole slippery slope concept. Especially with this new spike after 8 months of mask/social distancing restrictions being in place (at least in PA).
