Hey all,
Looking at buying a new bike. Currently I have a 2017 RMZ450 that I bought new. It’s not a bad bike but I’m ready for something different. I’m a 30+B/C rider. Last Sunday I was lucky enough to ride a YZ450F, KX450, and a FC450. All were really nice bikes. The one I seemed to be the most comfortable on was the KX450. I’m also looking to move my kids from their DRZ70 to a KLX110.
Here’s my dilemma, I live in Michigan. Winter is coming quickly. KLX110 are very few and far between. Honestly can’t find many KX450 bikes available either. Almost all are 2021 models. Of course there are no incentives right now either. I found a close dealer that has a KLX110. He also has a KX450. My RMZ is mint with 21 original hours on it. Problem is wrong time of year and basically no one around here wants them. The dealer I’m talking to is also a Suzuki dealer and flat out told me he almost never stocks them because he can’t sell them.
If I buy the 450 and 110 together he wants $9700 for the 450 and $2600 for the 110 otd. He offered me $2500 in trade on my RMZ. He’s saying it would likely be sent to auction. If I don’t get the 450 in the deal then he wants $2800-$2900 otd for the 110. I’m thinking of at least picking up the 110 but not sure what to do on the 450.
Are you all seeing a shortage of new bikes in your area? Are the 110 machines basically impossible to find? Around here they have waiting lists and potentially months of waiting with no guarantee. I’m assuming no incentives on anything due to low stock and still high demand even on big bikes. Would love to here your thoughts on what you would do.
Thanks

For your RMZ, if you don't need the $2500 I would just keep to spring and get more money from it then. Trade in does make the whole thing easier though and you don't have to deal with the hassle of selling a bike.
I'm 30+ B/C guys myself and going through this right now too. I went with the YZ though with the KX being a close second. Only reason I went with the YZ is due to getting a better deal.

He took on SSR to have more bikes to sell and can't get them fast enough either.
Or buy a YZ250 2 stroke.
The way things are in the market right now: I'd hang on to that Zook. I'd send the forks out for a revalve, put the white plug in it, get some VP T4 next srping and I'd be STOKED! The shock on that bike is one of the best production shocks around.
For your boy? I'd get creative and get him something that makes sense both financially and for his "growth" over the next few years...if that's possible...? Everyone form Suzuki to Honda has bikes in that segment.
He's gonna be stoked for Christmas!
Good Luck!
It will take at least a year or two before inventory levels increase substantially.

I really do appreciate the comments. I know if I hold onto the Suzuki I could likely get more in the spring. I also think that it would be yet another year older as well. Tough decisions. The Suzuki’s really aren’t selling well around here. Not sure about now, but a little while back 2 year old brand new Suzukis were very easy to come by on showroom floors.
Another option, and I’ve done this a few times, try Ohio. Championship in Toledo always was great to deal with and you could avoid all the fee’s and tax if you called ahead. They had you in and out loaded up in 15 minutes. Not sure if they’re still open, but I got a great deal from Andrews cycles back in like 07 too. Same deal.
If you’re looking for a KTM in MI, try Lake Cycle in Grand Haven. They’re great to work with, no bs fees, he’ll give you a OTD price and that’s what you pay. Really small 1 man shop that’s been around for decades and the owner’s a very fast woods guy. KTM only though.
Your selling a bike to upgrade to something new from a bike that you only used for 21 hours?
Well okay, maybe try updating the 17'
If not....
No shortages from ktm or husky. They are everywhere and lots too choose from. The japanese bikes are a bit harder to come by.
So I went ahead and got the new KLX110. Kid loves the bike! I didn’t end up trading the RMZ in. I did however have a rough week last week with selling it. I didn’t want to give it away by any means so I didn’t really budge on listed price. I had a handful of people tell me they wanted it and were bringing cash on a certain day. 2 of them never showed and never bothered to tell me they weren’t coming. I was just about ready to take it down and wait until spring when a guy reached out to me. Yesterday he drove 2.5 hours to my house, brought cash, and gave me exactly what I was asking for it. The RMZ is at its new home and we have a new ‘21 KLX110.
Now the downside. I don’t have a bike. Lol. I have found a couple leftover ‘20 machines at dealers in Michigan so tomorrow I will call around to see if I can get a good deal on one. I know what a new ‘21 will cost and there is a $750 rebate on the ‘20. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find one of these dealers that will give me a better price if they are looking to get rid of their last ‘20.
The 21 does have a better clutch wich would be 1k or so to swap out. If you take out the jutter spring on the 20 its only a few dollars to swap it for a fiber though.
