Man I’m just glad you’re alright. Looks like Seth Enslow’s old bike. Only bike I’ve ever seen do that is a KLX400 and my TTR125. I attributed that to a trail bike that shouldn’t be jumped. No excuse for an MX bike doing that. Once again, glad you’re alright.

dude... i just bought a new swingarm and rear wheel for my 20.5 FE with 14.4 hours on it this morning to the tune of 1157 dollars so i feel your pain. That being said what happened was my fault and i guess i just have to suck it up... along with some bourbon this morning at 830 as i was hitting “confirm order” 😭😭

You forgot to torque your sprocket bolts, didn’t you?

FRONT FRAME COMP. $1,535.40 Usually ships in 7-10 business days
7-10 business days means it’s backordered. I know that because every backordered part I’ve ordered from them said 7-10 business days.

no...didn’t forget!!!

damndest thing i’ve ever had happen, I just checked them on tuesday when i prepped for the track. At first, i thought it would buff out, but then reality set in, it’s my responsibility and have to fix it right, along with a couple choice expletives strung together and some bourbon of course!

Peelout is either going to kick my ass or point and laugh, one or the other!

Not one to post much in forums, however, I need some ideas on what to do here. I recently had a high speed crash on my 2020 YZ250f and the frame snapped at all three welds on the steering stem. I purchased the bike from Rock River Yamaha and they came back with nothing. Called customer service and got nothing. Clearly a manufacturing defect on the bike and I get shit happens but the customer service is an absolute joke. I've gotten no where and due to COVID I am not sure if production is slow or what but have not seen any frames available for sale. Overall, just curious if this has happened to someone and if it got covered or how they got it taken care of.

Thanks in advance.
Almost every guy on here has no idea of what it takes to make a quality structural weld. Your gonna get bassed. I think Yamaha messed up. But I only weld navy boats together so what do I know.

If Yamaha messed up, then they would have a series of frames from production with the same issues. It wouldn’t take a “high speed” crash to do it either. The welds are performed by machines and if they messed up (unlikely) they would see it on the numbers or the structure testing. You would see a recall.

Lesson learned dump Yamaha and go to KTM. Yamaha doesn't stand behind their stuff and KTM does.

How many hours on the bike? I think you will find little help from Yamaha.

Back in August and within two weeks of each other, my '20 yz250fx seized the rod to the crank and my son's '20 yz450 broke a rod and destroyed most of engine and transmission. FX had 32 hours on it, yz450 48. Yamaha pretty much said pound sand. Still waiting on back-ordered parts for the 450........
Don't put stock rods back in. Have Carrillo's installed. You'll thank me later.

If you want a stronger frame, no problems, actually the problems are it will cost and weigh more, which bike do you want?

Its made like any performance product, were it should hold up to the rigorous of regular competition, not a bizarre BIG crash.

The difference is this guy snapped his frame 5th gear pinned into a concrete barrier and KTM frames snap if you take them off the stand too fast

Very nice appearing, machine-made welds can also be structurally very weak. Improper pre-heat, poor prep of base material, wrong filler, bad purge, etc. can all result in unacceptable welds.

Failure in the fill material indicates to me that the weld itself was inadequate since the weld shouldn’t normally be the weak link.

I’m actually curious what kind of crash led to a frame failure.

Nice to see someone on here that knows what it takes to create a proper weld. And Aluminum itself can be a hassle.

Do you have insurance? Make a claim if you do. They'll total it out, buy it back, part it out and make some money..

I had to do this with a 00 CR250R and a Triumph Daytona. Insurance is like $75 a year and it's worth it..

Everyone on here has seen all the pictures of Yamaha headstock’s on here and other forums that have cracked on the welds from people who haven’t crashed with like 12 hours on their bikes from last few years. It’s weld issue some have with the frames, there’s a good chance your frame cracked along these welds and you hadn’t noticed and then your crash finished it off. No crash should do that to your bike unless you run it into a wall at 60mph head on.

I guess I would like to hear what actually caused this.

Except the failure wasn’t along the usual weld cracks.

Hate to tell you man, I use to work for a Japanese manufacturing company and there is no such thing as a manufacturing defect leaving the plant...

....even if you are holding a part that left the plant, was put into service, broke, was returned to be evaluated for warranty claim, determined to have an obvious manufacturing defect, then tested on the manufacturing line and the same defect passes all checks for a good part.

They will deny everything, falsify the report and return the verdict of “external force” or “customer abuse” they are dirty

Find a frame or part it out👍

You would see a cover up until they were forced to make a recall.
