I always liked that look too. Just never really understood what the purpose was, keep the CDI box cool? haha.

I figured the new Yamahas would have them, especially for SX to get more clean air with the airbox up there. The vented number plate was one of my favorite trends for sure.

I believe the idea is to diffuse air through the plate instead of it being a big flat wall. That way the air can follow tighter to the bike and allow some sort of extra air flow to rads, engine, etc. instead of splitting around it when it hits the plate.

Ive made a few now. Starting to get it down.. I design/print/cut the vinyl for the vents so I dont have to cut through it.

I always liked these and wanted to take it one step further and experiment with venting side plates well. I have never seen it done and would love to see what everyone thought about it? I know ktm guys drill Holes in the side plate but maybe vented number plate would look better? Edit: I’m sure it’s been done before but could even do the silencer side to match as well. Might help with heat?

It isn't that hard to make your own. Just a dremel, rivets, and mesh from the hardware store.

I still have mine also,found this plate advertised in one US magazine.By the time i sent my money order by mail and then the return postage it took nearly 4 weeks to arrive.Got some yellow plastic sheet and cut the numbers by hand.
It was fitted to my YZ80S.
