Forget about the money being the sole motivator, and it just being a job. These guys are racers and would want to win championships first and foremost. And the only way they do that is on great bikes with a great team supporting them. Man I cringe lately when the media constantly bring up riders pay cheques and racing being a job.

Get to know some of them, it is just a job and it is just a paycheck, but like any job, some do better than others. I can tell you about two top ten riders that would stop racing tomorrow if they had the same paycheck elsewhere.

Let’s talk about a guy like Troll, or Martin who are/were in the class forever. You think at 31 years old with a young wife and a new house that money isn’t a huge deal to him? Sure, he could move up, but then he’d have to sell his house and stop building his wealth, but hey, he’d be on a 450.

Martin Davalos, great example of exactly how it’s supposed to work for a guy who couldn’t be a 450 star. He stayed in the 250 class and built himself a future. He got his wife through dental school and helped her buy into a practice essentially setting up their future. Once he did that, he moved up.

This isn’t just a sport that we love, it’s their way of supporting their future, and they need to make decisions for their future, not because some fans wants to see him move up.

But he missed out 450 nudes

But here is a fact, Dylan Ferrandis is the only rider that is signed at this point, anything can still happen.
Can you confirm 1 year deal?

I like Yamaha, but I'd like to see him at KTM.

So I just watched the post race thing Racer X does with Jason & he mentioned GEICO is at the end of the contract with the Honda team on the 250s & they aren't going to be re-signing?? Any news on that front? This is the first I've heard of it. Is GEICO pulling out of MX all together or just moving to another bike?

To my knowledgeable DF hasn't told anyone publicly that he has signed anything. For the most part I feel people here are just repeating things they heard or their wishes or uninformed opinions. When the rider or team officially announce it then its for real. Even then a deal can still blow up.
Lets just except that some people have better knowledge than you. You'll work out who one day if you pay attention.

If Barcia is willing to drop his A-Star gear deal (someone here said $500-750k) to go with GasGas...then GasGas definately opened the checkbook wide!

Or Justin is willing to dive into a bike program he believe in and is willing to reduce his up front pay, with the potential for better results, bonuses, and stats.

Truman said Barcia is taking a serious pay cut to join TLD Gas Gas. He's giving up AStars, Arai, and Scott. Logic being he gets on really good factory equipment and makes more money down the road (race bonuses and new contracts). If this is true, I like that he's betting on himself.

Anyone remember the name Austin Stroupe? I think he’ll be on a ClubMX bike in 2021 SX.

Ballsy of Bam to go to a totally unproven bike in GasGas. Coldenhoff seemed to adapt really well to the all new machine in MXGP but how will it perform in Supercross?

A-Star really pays that much to Barcia? It does not seem possible they could sell enough gear to cover the cost of that much money.

Does anyone buy gear because Barcia wears it??? Really?

Dress it up any way you want, but basically, if he wants a proper ride, he is out of options now.

A heavilty incentivised contract might be just what he needs.

Alpinestars has a huge market share of the road racing/street wear side of things. MX is just a drop in the bucket for that company.

Barcia is willing, two different sources tell me he signed over the weekend.

Look at it this way, Barcia has wanted in this door for a long time, he’s in and now has no excuses about bikes. He’s taking a huge pay cut on the bet that he will get it back bonus money.

He was about a foot and a half from signing with Tony.

Ok, I see...but still, does it make sense to pay Barcia that kind of money even if you have it? That is a LOT of boots.

He's got a lot of fans and he gets a lot eyeballs on the brand. They've done their research. They're not just throwing away 500k+ for the hell of it.

If it wasn't Alpinestars it would be Fox or Thor.

Barcia was trying to get into the KTM door? Dang I didn't know! I figured he'd do well on a KTM, especially under Baker's training. A little surprised he's giving up his gear sponsors for the ride, but I like that he's betting on himself to be a contender and make that money in bonuses.

I didn’t make this up but I do share your skepticism. There’s a lot of time between now and A1.

But there are “rumblings” and figured the silly season thread would be an appropriate place to post it. It’s what makes the silly season so enjoyable! Grinning

FWIW, he looked good in AX before he inevitably disappeared again.

Just think how much they are paying Tomac, Musquin and Lets not forget about Herrlings and the rest of the Euro riders.
Then add in all the boot deals with 2/3 of the riders...

Going to be a fun year next year. Bummed to see Barcia go from Yamaha because he has really put in the work with them to get the results as they improve.

With that said, I am really pumped to see Ferandis in the 450’s and to see what Barcia can do for the rest of the year and next.
