Take the time to let things heal up and reassess how you feel after the Doc says you're clear. It may be hard to believe but trail rides can be pretty damn fun.
I, for one, hope you take some of your free time, while you're laid up, and post here some more. This place is always more interesting when you're around

i just turned fifty and my next injury will be my last.
Hope you feel better.
To me those have all been minor. I'm always one to jump up and get back on the bike and finish the moto if I can stand. Which brings me to the question in my mind, how bad is it going to have to be for me to actually quit? I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that really.
Hang in there Hillbilly, you're core mx man. You will get the itch to ride again and eventually, that leg will heal up like all our other mx injuries do.
1) Wife
2) Two wonderful little girls
3) your health!
Sold one 4 wheeler and selling my second one right now after 10 years of owning it. I have a wife and 3 little kids that are too important to me. Many "almosts" and several bruises. Just not worth the risk at this point in my life.
I don't know if I've taken my last ride, but I do know the time in between rides, is getting longer.
After feeling the thrill of speed on a dirt bike and being scared to do that anymore, makes riding less appealing.
Seriously, call me if you have any questions they're not answering for you.

I'm a 46-year-old father of two myself and just don't know if the risk is worth the reward anymore. I think 88sdad summed up my feelings exactly. I love MX, and I'll always be a fan of the sport, as well as a rider (to some degree), but I'll never enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger. Simply too much at stake now to be breaking myself up.
Never say never. :-)
Sounds like you have strong ties to the sport in the way you are helping some of the kids, keep that up.
The toughest part would be your kids taking part. Been there, and also on the other side of the equation since I have a boy and girl racing with me. They were both banged up in the past month, and can't wait to get back on.
Get well soon!
Pit Row
I cant count how many times I have retired and come back.
Get better!
Sounds like you have got two great kids there.
All I can say is NEVER SAY NEVER...
Hope the surgery goes good & you feel better soon.
I tore my ACL last month (not nearly as much pain as yours I m afraid)
When I was laying in the mud holding my knee as I heard 40 bikes go by, I thought thats it......no more.
4 broken wrists, 1 ankle, knocked cold more times than I can remember, stitches ect.....
Then I saw the last RacerX renthal add......"its not if you get knocked down.....its wheather you get back up"
Take your time and like Lumpy said, see how you feel about it in a couple months.
Good luck man
