People are now doing what Bubba was doing in 2004.

One thing that is safe to say after seeing these videos is that were never going to race two strokes again.
The speed difference is pretty substantial.

Steel Roots or Steel Roots 2. MC on a Chaparral Yamaha, jumps a short tabletop doing a sit-down, no-footed whip, then straightens it out, lands on the front wheel and rides a manual stoppie all the way down the back side without ever putting his feet back on the pegs.

I think that same vid has Pastrana jumping some big step-up, landing on the rear wheel, and riding out a long, standup wheelie.

That was McGrath too doing the landing wheelie at Guy Coopers house. Steel Roots was shot while he was on Suzuki and Yamaha.

There's a video that I've tried finding multiple times. Him riding a kawasaki 2 stoke at night at a local track and absolutely scrubbing like 3 jumps in a row. I can vision it in my head as i watched it about 100 times back in the day but cannot find it currently.
I know the exact video you're talking about, he is ringing that thing out hard....I must have watched it 100s of time too lol. But unfortunately I havent been able to find it either, been looking for a while now.

Shucks, this is from the same day as the other video I’m looking for. The other one had some techno music to it.

I know the video your talking about too wish I could find it. Opens up with a shot of the track name on a sign that says motocross world? Him hitting that step up/down like a set of whoops was the coolest.
Yeah, that’s it! He was riding the place like he was on a bmx bike. I watched it hundreds of times on my MySpace page before the 2005 Dallas Supercross.

James Stewart did exactly what Jeremy Mcgrath did in the 90"s. Changed the game. The way James attacked and carried momentum and misdirected his momentum was and still is a thing of beauty to watch. There were some epic battles between RC, JS, and CR. Thanks James.
Random fact: I always heard Reed criticize James for not having a finger on the lurch. According to Big James Sr. They didn’t have money to replace clutches all the time, so Big James taught Bubba how to shift without it. I think not using the clutch growing up contributed his Corning railing. Not to mention the Florida sand.

Think the technique is called the pre-loading manual. Guys in BMX been doing it for years

Extremely dangerous as it can make you quickly OTB.

Also I know JS7 ran super stiff front suspension so this might been a reason for keeping the front light over jumps.

I wish I could find the other video. He was wheeling up and down a triple step up tabletop step down. https://youtu.be/ROTAlypmqTo
I was there this day! Only year I ever went to Glen Helen.

They could have just saved him some arm pump and stuck the throttle wide open.

Does anyone remember the supercross race when he was on 125s that he was jumping that huge quad after the stadium triple? He was the only one out of the 125s and 250s doing it. Most people were just double doubling it.
That was the whole section. A left turn into a stadium triple into a quad into a left turn. I’ve looked for it a bunch over the years but can’t find it.

Didn’t he end up crashing on it? It was Vegas if I remember right. Had a big lead and crashed then crashed again like half a lap later.

So much youth in those old Stewart 125 videos. Just pure talent, agression and confidence. It's so cool to watch kids at their peak of raw DGAF speed.

I think most people agree that Bubba fundamentally changed the way people ride motorcycles and the world is still building off of that legacy.

I know Phoenix 02 had a big quad after the triple. I was sitting right there in practice.
It was into a 90 degree right hander. Fonseca was doing it on the YOT yz250f and made it look easy. Also if I remember correctly one of the 125 Suzuki riders jessimen maybe? had a big get off on it. Ended up in the stands if I remember. It was a BIG jump.

I remember when this was posted on RonRonMX. I could not stop watching it. He seems to wheelie his front tire over the face of that double too. Like someone else mentioned in this thread. Other people have learned those techniques, but when James did it, he is flat out going faster, doing it with a purpose.

That was shot by Marcad (Marty)

Marty passed away at a track (Dade City) a few years ago, just sat down after a ride, took a nap as he was known to do and just up and died.

That video was shot at Bithlo, now known as Orlando MX (track now goes other direction)

James, as well as Chiz11 and other fast guys were known to go out there regularly because it was open sun up to night time.

That is one of my favorite videos of James, not for just how cool it is, but what it represents to many members here and myself, memories of a dear departed friend.

Each decade or so we get a different motogod that comes out and changes things up

He had a whole lane lead after one lap. Dude was insane, crazy some people talk shit about him. One of the top five dudes of all time no doubt. Checkers or wreckers, yet still had a perfect 450 season and almost a second on a 125.

You were referring to Phoenix 2002. JS7 and Travis Preston were the only ones in the main hitting the triple quad combo. Ironically a lot of the 125’s were struggling on the triple. It was a short corner and steep face. This is also the same triple that took out David Pingree and snapped his KTM in half.
