The gate was pretty ridiculous, “it’s not in the rule book” yeah chief, the flags wouldn’t be in there. I’d love to imagine this being a normal race, Shane picks his gate, Chase then picks his, and Shane then goes to grab the gate from chase “BUt i GeT FirSt pICk”
I dont know all the specifics, but this is not a new thing to happen. I think Pourcel would do it sometimes after someone prepped the gate he wanted. I haven't seen anything in the rulebook about it, but I haven't been reading it lately.

It probably would have gone the same if it was a 'regular' race. Still a crappy thing to do IMO

so if it was a Star rider who won legitimately and Geico protested, you would be 100% ok with that?
The point is that if there is doubt, any doubt, that they may not have won legitimately in professional sport protesting is one way to seek redress.

What a fuckin' trainwreck. Is anyone doing PR over there?

Starting Gate - wasnt against the rules to take Chase's gate, didnt want to risk Chase being on the inside line
Slowing Down - did not intentionally slow down to let Chase by. Track was wet, he missed his lines
Red Flags - sucks that it happened twice, but nothing can be done about it. Thinks they might be trigger happy on red flags because of Brian Moreau
Fuel Protest - had heard Geico received a new shipment of fuel, didnt want to live with a "what-if" if the fuel was illegal, didnt think it would hurt to get it tested

Good lord. really?? I'll have to listen to this later. I heard Chase talking about the starting gate situation and thought it was crazy. And he absolutely let Chase back by, it was pretty freaking obvious.

This was on my main page of Google this morning, lol!
This does not reflect well on Shane in my opinion. Someone told him that there might be illegal fuel, and there is nothing to lose for protesting. He lost $1800.00, and I don't think people should set a precedent of protesting based on dubious evidence of cheating.

I'm not defending Shane by any stretch, but I interpreted it as the team suggested the fuel protest, they said they would re-imburse him, but the protest had to be filed by the rider. Anyway you slice it, it was long shot. In the grand scheme of McElrath's actions on the day, the fuel protest was likely the least bullshit. His dancing around on the gate selection and racing tactics was just ridiculous.

One more thing too, on that podcast/IG with Weigandt, Shane whines about all the haters. Well, buddy giving a half-ass interview like that is not going to help you gain fans.

Does that $1800 go to charity by chance?

If it was just 1 or 2 of the incidences, not a big deal. But all of this is just adding up to make Star look like a bunch of butt hurt bro-tards.

The amount of money Shane lost in that night is insane.

Loses the possibility of a championship bonus.

Loses the probability of a main event win bonus because he'd rather play games.

Loses whatever he had to pay to protest the fuel for absolutely no reason.

Very questionable decisions. Curious how much money he could possibly lose in the future because of those 3 outcomes right there.

Loses the probability of a main event win bonus because he'd rather play games. How much is that bonus?

Seemed more like it was lost the prior round. Up to that point, Shane had come out swinging and was winning. By round 15 though, seemed like Sexton had him covered, and wasn't that the one where McElrath was in second and couldn't make any time up? That was when it was lost. He rode well this year, yet the fastest rider won the series. I get that he's bummed. I think Star is making bad choices and giving Shane bad advice on how to act as a professional if we wants to be respected by his peers.

Shane could have definitely won that race and win bonus and also chose not to do a pointless protest to just bum Chase out.

As if I didn't need another reason to dislike this dude. Got me salty from the switch to Star from TLD, to excessive podium interviews (preaching), to ensuring everyone knew it was championship or bust, to final round shenanigans kicking off in practice, gate pick drama, then the protest, despite it being widely accepted that you're on the most powerful 250 in the class? Come on man.

Fastest and best man won. And without any games.
