From '80-'85 it seemed like each manufacturer had a broadly different interpretation of a lot of the same concepts
'86 seems like the year that mx bikes really standardized across all makes. The bodywork all took on the same general shape (excepting those oddball Euro bikes). There's no number plates or radiators popping up in unexpected locations. Power valves built into cylinder are the norm. All the bikes have moved to a Honda-style linkage (excepting Kawi, who would hold on to the push rod for a few more months).
Even things as seemingly universal as Japanese MXers having the kickstarter on the right, and the chain on the left -seem canonical now, but got finally settled in '86.
