I loved those 86 Suzuki RMs with the blue frames and motors. Also idolized Judy from Winners Take All who also rode a 86 RM250. I wonder if Kathleen York ever actually rode the bike any. I figure a stunt double did all the on bike stuff.

Tony I love your videos and am envious of all your magazines I used to have a huge collection of Dirt Rider going back to the early 80s. Have you thought about including short video clips from races or any promo footage in these? Wasn't like today back then with everything geared to print.

I have used a few clips in videos in the past but often companies like Feld and Duke Video block them and force me to pull them down so I pretty much stay away from them anymore.

I raced a 1985 CR125 - skipped the '86. But BOY, when I got that 1987 CR125R - that was an incredible bike. Those forks and that motor....

Several years ago there was a post on here or it might have been when it was Motodrive about “Winners Take All”.
I sent her a link and she had no idea how much people still talk about that movie in the motocross world. She seemed like a really nice person.

that is so cool! I was still a teenage girl when it came out. Its hard to watch all the way through now but I still love watching the bike scenes.

Thanks Tony! 86/87 are still the golden era of bikes for me. The pace of development between 1980-87 was unreal.

X2 in that 86 CR125. I had one as well and loved that bike almost as much as my 88 KX250 ( the big one lol).

That’s a nice bike. I would say this bike 🚲 s as good as any 86 cr kx rm or yz you’d find today.

My observation:

From '80-'85 it seemed like each manufacturer had a broadly different interpretation of a lot of the same concepts

'86 seems like the year that mx bikes really standardized across all makes. The bodywork all took on the same general shape (excepting those oddball Euro bikes). There's no number plates or radiators popping up in unexpected locations. Power valves built into cylinder are the norm. All the bikes have moved to a Honda-style linkage (excepting Kawi, who would hold on to the push rod for a few more months).

Even things as seemingly universal as Japanese MXers having the kickstarter on the right, and the chain on the left -seem canonical now, but got finally settled in '86.
