Even as a Tomac fan I don't see him getting to 50. I think 40 is reasonable, maybe even 45. But that is still 11 more wins between this year and next year...things change every year, people get better. and let's not forget Eli is no Mike Alessi when it comes to starts.

Hard to say how long he will ride. If he rides 2 more years then maybe 50, otherwise I say 40-45.
We never know what really drives athletes. I wouldn't be surprised if Eli just hung it up after the outdoor season this year. I hope he doesn't. He's 27, which is the same age Dungey and Carmichael retired, and a year older than Villopoto.

But watching him battle with Webb last night, when he didn't need to, gives me hope that he's not ready to settle yet. Win or lose, Tomac gives us some great entertainment.

Tomac can not be put anywhere near Dungey when it comes to SX. Dungey is a multi time 450 SX champion Tomac looks to be on his way to his first.

I'm with you, I could see him retiring after this year if he wins both titles or even just he SX title. I also have a feeling he may want to come back and try to repeat in SX if he wins it.... Who knows, maybe he will ride into his 30's.

Ask Damon Bradshaw how it feels to be "the guy" for a few years and walk away empty handed.

This is first year of his new multi-year contract. No way he retires after this year. If you ask me- after 2022 Nationals.

I'm sure Bradshaw feels fine about his career. He still did more than most that live the dream of being a professional racer.

Way off beam. Eli will be around for another 5 maybe 10 years and will get the all time wins record.

His strength, fitness, durability, allegiances and sponsor and fan appeal are above reproach.

He pretty much has said 2021 will be his last year. Hope not but probably correct.

Racing will be boring without him.

Let's do a poll, would you rather be Tomac with no SX titles or Dungey? Add in the MX titles to make the call. The money is irrelevant because they both have plenty.

Personally, I would rather be Tomac. History will remember him as a true badass on a dirt bike. The fastest guy ever considering the speed they ride these days.

"Beast Mode". Those come from behind races are all-time classics. Yea, easy choice for me. People will remember Tomac long after they forgot about Ryan.

Dungey was a racing engineer. Tomac, as they say, is a beast. It really depends how you are wired. Dungey was great to watch win...a bit boring to say the least however. Tomac...well, Tomac is the type of racer you keep your eyes glued to.

Yes.

Dungey was like Stanton. You have great respect for them both but the memory of how good they were fade over time.

Eli's rides will be remembered.

You have no idea what it's like to be an elite athlete then.

You don't think it grinds him to sit around the Fite Klub campfire and have guys shit talking you on your biggest failure. To get to that level you have to be an insanely driven individual.

Then why does EVERYONE remember Bradshaw? Ask anyone interested in motocross who the beast from the east is. As far as grinding on him...doubtful.

The only way to know is to ask Bradshaw. It seems like he has gotten over it and it is not something that bothers him anymore. I am sure some people can let it go easier than others.

No doubt he is a memorable rider but you can't even come close to putting him at the level of Eli.

Eli has two 250 titles, all the crazy SX wins (like last Sunday) plus three in a row in 450 MX makes him an all-time great.

No one since RC has done three in a row.

Everyone remembers Bradshaw because he was spectacular and a freaking child prodigy. I am about his age and remember reading about him winning Mini-O's when we were both around 12 years old or something like that. As an amateur Stanton was just a guy, as a pro he became The Guy.

If you would rather have Bradshaw's career over Stanton's that tells me one of two things. You have no idea what sport you are watching or that you are a loser.

For most of my life, I just casually followed Supercross. In the 80's and 90's I watched the replays on TV, but the coverage wasn't great. For most of the 2000's I didn't really watch at all, but I always knew who was winning.

In 2015 I started watching regularly. I've basically watched every SX and MX for the last 6 years. So that's my perspective. I didn't get to watch Stewart in his prime, and barely ever watched Carmichael.

Does anybody compare to Tomac the way he just goes into that beast mode? Dungey and Webb have had some good rides for sure. But when Tomac just starts throwing his bike into corners and casing jumps, it's just crazy to watch.

10 years from now people will talk about Tomac's rides like we talk about Stewart's rides (not that he is equal to JS7!! I'm NOT saying that), but the Mt Rushmore of SX/MX will have Dungey on it (and RV).

Dungey .. lets not forget he won MXON 3 times with team USA , he won 3 outdoortitles and 3 or 4 SX titles in 450
thats some impressive stats , Eli isnt even close ...

He also used to say Villopoto and Dungey weren’t anything special, while getting beat by them about 75% of the time. He was more competitive back then so people actually thought his statement held water. Now I think people realize he just says shit to make himself feel better.

Yep, Dunge is in the elite class and Tomac still has championships to win to be in that conversation.
