Seeing my first race on TV in the late 70's.....I remember Mike Bell and Chuck Sun in that race. That's when I started wanting a dirt bike of my own. Mom and Pop told me I'd have to earn the money for it.... thanks Mom and Dad for that life lesson.

I remember being a kid and my father brought us to visit his cousin who lived on a farm. His cousin had a YZ250 leaning against the barn.

We thought it was cool so he started it, ripped it up and down the road a few times, and that was it. Hooked on moto. It just grew from there.

When I was like 4 years old I went into the garage and my brother had bought a RM80.. So I climbed up on it and was just playing , then I found the kick starter. ring ring ding and off I ran to the house scared to death.

Later I came back and was hooked.

Had a POS step through Honda 50 that was very well used when I got it. Rode the wheels off it all the while dreaming of a SL70. Never got one.
Meanwhile stumbled upon the first issue of MXA in the grocery store and that was it. Hooked!!
Still have that magazine today.

Opening the trunk of my grandfathers Mercury Cougar, and instead of finding fishing poles, a 69 Honda Mini Trail 50 was laying there. I was 8. A day I remember 34 years later like it was yesterday.

Same here. They were recorded onto a single vhs tape. I watched the first one for probably a year and then let a friend borrow it and he discovered that two was also on there. I think this was in the 4th grade lol

The smell
Nothing like that 2stroke smell, loved following a scooter in the car turn up the ventilation 😋 for a fix

Being taken to the New Orleans National as a kid. Too young to remember the year but can remember watching through the pickets and seeing “the gully” and “the gully jump”. Funny that for the next 15 years on a bmx bike any jump we did over any undulation was called “the gully” jump. Hooked terribly since.

Watching the nationals on ESPN in the late 90's. Only took 6 years to convince my parents to let me get a bike!

Watching my first supercross on TV seeing Mark Barnett (my hero), Broc Glover, Jeff Ward, Mike Bell, Bob Hannah, Kent Howerton, etc. I didn't play any sports except for running track at school. Feel in love with racing motocross and wanted to learn everything I could about it and start racing.

My first bike was also the 79 GT80. But I got mine in 93 so I wasn’t the kid with the cool new dirt bike lol. Thanks for posting that though. I did a double take.

The '78 JR50 Zook that my pops got for me at 3 yrs old in 87, I'd do laps in my front yard in El Toro for hours on end. I'm sure the neighbors hated us

I think I was in 3rd grade, and a couple older kids up the street had KX80's. I saw them riding, and just knew that was what I wanted to do. I had never seen a dirt bike before then.
