Didn't he have a major heart attack a year or so ago? If he's the one I'm thinking of he had the attack at a REM Saturday at Glen Helen. Died on the way out in the ambulance and the medics jump started him and again in the trauma center. Quadruple bypass and rehabed. Maybe someone should call the police in Hesperia and get a welfare check.

Yes. Ron Hamp (Flowmeister here on Vital RIP) posted about it when it happened.

No, I knew about Ron Hamp. Im pretty sure it was Varner, if not him then it was another well known old time California tuner.

I’m pretty certain it was 2015 Varner had a heart attack.

No updates as of today. His voicemail is full. I must dial his number 10+ times a day. I’m starting to get in contact with more and more people who are having the same issues as I am. I did phone my local police department for advice and with the correct paperwork showing I sent him money, I can start a police report against him. I’m uncertain if that would even help. I don’t want to take it that far but if worst comes to worst a guy has to do what he has to do. There’s a few people that I’ve talked to that have been dealing with their issues with him for over a year! Is there anyone who has read this forum live close to his shop?
Iam about 30 minutes from hesperia, if you can get him to release the parts I’ll pick them up for ya

Not this issue, but we, sadly, have to deal with this crap in other places. I had a blackface Fender Princeton amp many years ago that needed work. I contacted a very active poster on the Telecaster Forum and off it went to him. Four months later, after 100's of "It's done, I just need to pack it....", I finally sent a friend of mine who lived in the area to go get it. He got it back for me. It was UNTOUCHED. No work done. Lost $200 on it, but I got the amp back at least.

Yes. For all intensive purposes, it is a pre-Madonna expression describing today's doggy-dog-world.

Were not building Rolodex's...(guy from the south I work with would say that with his "ruff" machining skills - I believe he meant Rolex's but I wasn't going to correct him...)

Just reading through this thread makes me wonder... a lot of these old 2 stroke builders are getting older.... who will replace them ? If I lived somewhat close to Varner, I would try to visit and offer to help out, Maybe returning phone calls clerical etc. . maybe gain some of that knowledge in the shop. Just thinking out loud.... Good luck to the OP, hope you get it all resolved.

This is correct. He raced my class back then, it was either him on his finely tuned 08 CRF or me at 145 lbs on my 06 490 CRF who would normally pull holeys. His speed dropped noticeably the weeks before his heart attack. This is out of character for Terry. I hope he's OK

Ok so he contacted me today. Said he’s seen this Vital post. I won’t share every detail of the conversation but I know I gave him my honest opinion. Granted, I will say he told me he has not been feeling well the past couple days although I mentioned it would have been nice to have known. And that’s only a couple days not the 3-4 weeks I haven’t heard from him. Also he said he was busy with Alessi’s stuff and other projects and that was a trigger for me. I really don’t care who the Alessi’s are, my stuff has been there for a very long time and I had paid before they had. I really disapprove of being pushed to the side. He was really not happy about being talked about on Vital and had asked to have this forum taken down. I told him I would once I get my engines back and that’s suppose to be early next week. I will update as we go. Again I don’t want to be the bad guy here and bash his entire reputation, Im just sharing my experience.

Looks like a lot of these famous (infamous) engine builders have more work than they need or can get finished. Also since the live long distances away, you can't just go knock on their door to get your parts back. They don't want to say no or give realistic time frames. After all of the different posts I've seen here about so many builders, I don't think I would use any of them.

My experience with Tom Morgan Racing was completely opposite of your experience with Varner. Tom provided excellent service, communication, and turn around time. My cylinder even came back with jetting recommendations. He told me I could call him if I needed anything.

If businesses want to cater to Pros or an elite clientele, that is wonderful and good luck, but you cant run a business that you advertise to the general public (especially in a niche sport) and then not deliver. I would be pissed as well. Its a shame that more skilled tradesmen aren't good business owners. Since my job is primarily dealing with small to medium size businesses, I see this often. It is really a bummer when they create headaches for themselves. Glad you got a response, it is sad that it took friends of his and a 2 page Vital post to get the response you wanted in the first place.

Nothing worst then being pushed a side. You paid the money, you should never be pushed a side for other jobs.

You always know when someone has a full voicemail they don't have it together. IDC how busy you are, that's easy, just delete as jobs get done.

Full voicemail is a shady construction contractors best friend. When I did sub work, I noticed the venn diagram between crooked/ dishonest contractors and dudes with full voicemails was a perfect circle.

Al Posey in NorCal “retired” but is still doing two stroke stuff. He’s an awesome guy. Have Varner send your motor there.
