I really miss seeing riders like Guy Cooper. My first time noticing him was at Pontiac SX in 1985 or 86 on a honda in the 250 class. the guy is dead last and doing one handed pancakes off the triple. the triple that nobody else was doing! I had a blurry photo or two and cannot seem to locate it. He was always so fun to watch

I remember a photo of him in a mx magazine in 96 or so?? Doing a huge quad on his track on an rmx. I was blown away as a 13 yr old. Still awesome.

I saw him at LA Coliseum and I remember him being the only one who was jumping these braking bumps and I was hyped. Immediate fan and then learned about copperland.. legend.

i was there. he crashed early and was out of contention...so he just went around laying pancakes and whipping. was pretty cool.

Awesome picture Mav but I was really expecting some Airtime.

I have a old VHS cassette with SX on it from the early 90's. Cooper was jumping over a whole whoop section...the only one doing it. I'm stumped, can't remember the year or which SX it was. Maybe someone here can recall what im talking about. Will be awesome to find some pics or vid on that.

He is vintage racing these days. Amazing shit what these old fast guys can do on 4 inches of suspension.

I was there also, probably my 2nd ever SX. That made a lasting impression on me. The crowd loved it!

I rode cooperland several times when we were in town to race the Ponca City nationals. The track was incredible and the memories there are ones I’ll cherish forever. I believe Eli Tomac was there in 04 if I remember correctly, I know my little brother raced him at Ponca, along with Baggett and Osborne. 110 degrees high humidity and the sun bouncing off the red dirt. Guy Cooper was living in a hellacious place, no wonder he figured out how to have fun anywhere

I was there too, Bailey who won stopped jumping the triples and Coop was the only one hitting hem. Way back in the pack but the whole side of the stadium was going nuts when he came around. I'll never forget that day.

You may be thinking 93 Pontiac. There was a long section of whoops with a big jump in the center. He would jump all the way to the center and sky out of it.

Coop could clear a triple but just seat bouncing off a gnat's ass. The guy was amazing to watch.

My all-time favorite rider. The Stillwater enduro was at his place and we rode there every year. I wore MSR gear to be like Guy. Arai too.

Man i was looking for those shots. I think it was in Dirt Bike magazine, I remember seeing that red clay and the crazy gap in between the jumps. Blew me away as well!

If the technology would've been different at the time, I have recordings of Guy hitting the Dunlop Double at High Point on the KTM 540 (built 520SX), even got to speak with him to let him know how much we appreciated his efforts that year. Awesome day, everyone (top 10 at least) was launching on the Dunlop Double.

This is correct, Guy and Mike Craig were doing that whoop jump and Craig even led until he crashed hard in it.

Those guys were riding amazing, it was cool to watch. Sending it!

Any pics from the '93 GH national? I was standing right at the hillside jump coming out of the canyon- Airtime was throwing it upside down every lap just because. What a legend!

one of my all time favorite pics. i grew up racing at cooperland. cooperland & 59th were my all time favorite tracks.
