What was the Longest Amount of Time you Left your Dirt Bike Out?

Hey guys. I recently left my YZ250 outside in 3 days of rain as I had forgotten to bring the bike in. This was the first time I ever left my bike out in my five years of riding. My idiotic mistake made me wonder if anyone else has been in the same situation where they left their dirt bike out to be exposed to the elements. This post may have been made to help me feel better about leaving my bike out as I was quite worried at first, but I guess you’ll never know!

P.S., I live on a secluded farm so there is no way it would have been stolen.

Odds are, your bike is fine. Clean the air filter and use a leaf blower or air chuck to blow off any water might be sticking around.

Honestly, I’d be more worried about your brain... dafuq were you thinkin’? 😂

Is this a serious post? Laughing It’s fine. The fact that it was raining for 3 days means little or no sun, so good for seat and plastics.
The worst thing I could see happening is a little rust on steel bolts and parts. If lots of humidity maybe some moisture in electrical connections and stator.

You shouldn't feel good about not knowing you left your bike outside for 3 days in the rain. How does that even happen. Take care of your stuff lol. This is why I don't buy used lol.

My Husky 350 has spent as much as 2 weeks outside, in Baja, during various Rip to Cabo (and back!) rides and Baja 1K pre-run weeks/months.

I left my trials bike outside in the rain for about an hour, when I brought it in the crankcase, carb and airbox were full to the brim with water. Come to think of it, I've never seen a trials event in the rain.

I honestly can’t tell if people are joking, or being serious. As long as it’s not a place where it’s gonna get stolen it really isn’t a big deal at all.

I think it's the "forgotten" part. Hell, we've all raced mud races that were harder on our bikes than just being outside but forgetting? Oh hell no.

I check on my bikes several times a day in my garage just because l love them.

I'm guessing you never had to buy the bike with your own money. If you had you'd know they ain't cheap.

Furthermore, you are the one that rides it, therefor, any neglect on the maintenance side poses risk for the operator....which again....is you.

The ideal - you go out riding and apon returning you wash the thing properly. Then you do your general maintenance....the airfilter, check n adjust chain.
..spray the bike down (levers, pepals, engine casings, spokes and every other metal part with exception the your brake rotors) with what ever multi purpose lube / silicone spray that you have - this keeps everything lubed and prevents suface rust...

Then... hopefully before your next ride you bleed the forks, check tyre pressures, lube the chain, put fuel...

There is much more to it (the maintenance) than the above....i speak for myself but the cleaning and pampering of the bike gives me as much satisfaction as riding it... most of ya will know what I mean.

I did the same at weston beach race, left my 5 hour old factory edition 450sxf in Parc ferme. Put it in Friday evening and didn't ride it until Sunday morning, although the race itself was pretty hard on it.

I'm pretty lax with how my bike looks as long as it's in good mechanical shape, but I can't say I've ever just left it outside to sit, sunny or not.

When we go boondock camping my bike gets left outside for a weekend. If it's going to rain I just cover it with a tarp or throw it under the easy-up.
