Holeshot?

Seriously though. Gonna be tough schedule on the riders...wonder how they will feel about it.

Does anybody give a shit about riders?! Riders don't like the 18 weeks/17 races - one off weekend - Outdoors either. But nobody seems to care. Everything gets decided above their heads. Racing supercross in September and October ... Racing MXGP till late November...

I know this are unusual circumstances but a little communication please...
Perhaps they are communicating with some of the riders. That doesn’t mean that they need to ask you anything......

I’m still not sold that there’s an economic benefit to holding the races without spectators. I would be surprised if any TV revenue surpassed the income from tickets, concessions, etc and the vast majority of riders will never have their financial backers exposed to anyone on the broadcast.

The lack of quality stadiums could be a major drawback too.

Those things aside, it would be great if they are able to pull off a few rounds in the fall!!!!!

There is no economic benefit to running the races if you are looking at it from a 'revenue based on fans buying a ticket' model now. Most people won't have the money to buy bootleg toilet paper, let alone even think about going to any sporting events en masse, for a long time.

As I know you know there are promoter obligations that need to be met for certain sponsor financials to kick in. X number of races/riders on the track, blah blah blah... FELD and the teams stand to gain more by fulfilling certain sponsor obligations and cashing sponsor checks, then amortizing inevitable losses against the income than not racing.

And I don't blame them one bit for trying to make it happen. But people need to take a hot second and breath. None of this will be figured out in 15 days.

I just don't see how making these guys go full outdoor mode for a potential full outdoor season to then turning around and wrapping up their 3 point difference supercross championship that they had to leave on hold for 5-6 months will work. I don't want to see this sx championship end right now either but imagine the stress on the current top 4 in points racing outdoors knowing it will decide their outdoors title and previous supercross title chances if something happens during outdoors.

something could happen between rounds for Supercross that cause injuries or ends of seasons...as we see each year. I just want these guys to race as I am sure they do too, if they have a different season than pervious ones then so be it, it is the same risk for everyone
Never thought about that.
Tomac falls in outdoors, does his shoulders again.
Loses both indoor and outdoor.

I say call it a day. Tomac Champ.

Which series for the Friday nights - 'yours', or SX?

My normal assumption would be SX, it is, after all, predominantly, a night time pursuit.

But, with the Outdoors being 'yours', one could equally assume it's the Outdoors.

You had the Colorado National Night Race(s - twice, wasn't it?) so, perhaps you are thinking of doing a deal with a lighting company, to get the set up to the races, or, leaving that up to the track itself.

So, DC, what's the Friday Night discussion you mentioned apply to?

Just asking for clarification. Cool

This, I know.

Just as I said, I'm asking for clarification, from DC.

It would not be a big change to the Nocturnal nature of SX , but quite a change to the Diurnal nature of The Outdoors.

The Colorado Night Races were pretty good, just a bit dark in some places (my concerns with that was purely Rider safety), and, one assumes, quite a bit more expensive to run.

It could possibly get past this problem they have with not wanting to clash with the college game 'thing'. Woohoo

Amazing to see how both Feld, MXSports and Infront all put up together new schedules based on wind, without caring the least bit about the riders, the teams and most of all, what’s going on in the world, like motocross championships are THE essential thing on the planet right now.
I understand very well they have a business to save, but c’mon, seriously?
Nobody really knows how to cure this disease, people die by thousands, a huge economic tsunami is coming and all that matters is racing till January 2021, like the FIM president said?
Strange, to say the least.

I'm kinda on the same thought pattern. How about a Red Bull straight rhythm mini-series or something to get riders and fans back in the groove? Put it on Red Bull TV or NBCSN. This whole situation stinks but I'm willing to bet some good changes will come out of it. And not just in racing. Let's stay positive!

We care more about the riders and race teams than our own events. Without them, there would be no professional motocross. And every team, and every rider, we have spoken to wants to get back out and race--as soon as it's safe for everyone--and not have sponsors abandoned motorsports all together. So we optimistically planned a schedule based on what we knew (and didn't know at the time) to start three months from that announcement. A lot can change in that time, obviously, but the goal for every sports promoter right now is to keep everyone safe and keep their sport alive, and you can't do that without actual competition between the athletes and teams.

And we know the doom and gloom -- "something wicked this way comes" -- but we also plan on being here and continuing our various championships as soon as we safely can.

I was talking about SX races, Beaurano. Those night races in Colorado were not popular with the riders, and very expensive for the promoter. It was a good try, but the speeds and length of outdoor motocross and the dynamic terrain, and the difficulty to light it all up, makes racing an outdoor national at night much, much different than supercross. There is no plan to return any outdoor races to night-time.

The original comment was from someone who always thought it was difficult to get good TV times in the fall because of football. It is very difficult, Now add in that 2020 will not only see football but all of these other postponed events (NBA, Major League Baseball, the Masters, the Kentucky Derby, F1, MotoGP, Champions League and on and on) makes it a difficult terrain for place our sport on weekend TV. So someone floated the idea of Friday night SX, when the schedule will be less crowded, which is not a bad idea at all, in my opinion. But not for outdoor motocross.

Thanks for that.

Though, I did think it was quite an "outside the box" thing, that might have been a way to get the Outdoors done if you had to run it while the college sport was on.

A quite expensive, difficult way of doing it, but it would have been a unique approach to perhaps meet the commitments of the Sport, and the Competitors, Industry etc.

Heck, over here in OZ, one of the most absolutely Main Stream sports, that is, supposedly, so very important to much of the Eastern side of the Nation, is being put forward as perhaps not being able to survive the shut down of the 'premier' part of it.. Me - I don't give a flying 'what's it' about it from a personal disinterest in it , but do give thought to those who do - I'm stunned that the sport ( well, the top end of ) in question, is in a so bloody weak and precarious position, so quickly.

I think moving the SX model to Friday nights would be awesome. Come home from work, watch races and then have all weekend to ride, work whatever. Friday night lights!

He's a top level pro, he should be able to handle this with no problem. Hard pressed to believe he doesn't already have ample time on a 450. The Star & PC boys ride 450s all the time.

Bummer, I was thinking sx could sneak a final round in there at night before mx, and (here's another really unpopular idea) run the triple crown format with main events at full points.

I said what I’d like. Also i liked when the champ of both got the blue plate and gold number IIRC. I also liked when the road racing and dirt track pros competed in both and had a grand national type championship.
Seems like the situation this year would lend itself to a Grand National Champion format. Call it the 2020 COVID-19 Mega Series! Feld and MX Sports coulde increase their respective economic loss submittals to the government to afford a generous payout to the combined series winner.

I'm kinda half joking but I do think there's some merit based on the unique situation this year.

Maybe he can suck it up and try to be a future legend of the sport like legends of the past, barnett, omara, glover, bailey, bell, magoo and many more who raced sx and mx on different displacement machines in seasons with overlapping series.

As far as venues for sx to start back up, modify some truck tracks or build some tracks in facilities, like the dirt track at Charlotte where the gp was held a couple years ago.

Depending on how long society is shut down and the condition of the economy, attendance is probably not going to shatter records.

Hell, what is Daytona doing in the fall. Add a Daytona race as the first round of the sx when it resumes. They can go back to the setting from the march race and gain another week in between to test for remaining rounds of sx.

As far as privateers, indications are that fuel is going to be half what it was when the series stopped, so one of their big expenses will be cut when racing resumes.

Now then, tv. people that want to watch live can go with NBC gold.

Get a consistent time spot for a condensed highlight show that is much more polished than what we have now.

Ok,

I have solved all the issues. Let's go racing dammit

Moto Super Bowl race at Glen Helen, outdoor national track Saturday morning, Saturday night supercross on a track built inside their truck stadium. $1,000,000 grand prize presented by Monster energy, moved over from Monster cup. Wishful thinking lol.

I would kind of chuckle when people say, "Oh so and so (let's use JS7 as an example) doesn't owe anyone an explanation on why he quit racing (or what was going on while we didn't hear anything from him)". Well, I agree, JS7 doesn't owe me anything. But keep in mind JS7 wouldn't have those fancy cars, big house, etc. without the fans. Everything in this sport is based more on the fans, because without fans there is no money. Teams and manufacturer's (for the most part) are not going to get into racing if it's just losing money.
