Australia gets all kinds of cool stuff. I would love it if the Toyota Hi-Ace was available here.
And I always loved those little Suzuki micro buses. (Spent about four months surfing up and down
the east coast way back when. Great time, great country and wonderful people!!)

Jayco suck base station it work n play they both look like they were designed in the 70’s finish is shocking and they shack rattle and roll when towing. Got a Caria now it’s awesome but company went belly up was run by morans from what I can gather... next van will most likely be a traxx.

Yeah the caria were nice. That's a massive caravan wouldn't be much change from 100k.

Our "Downsized" trailer. 7 x 10, 2 side doors, 50 gallon water tank under floor, single axle, electric brakes. The low height is good for gas mileage, fitting it in the garage, taking go pros off of helmets, backaches and bleeding heads. But the ease of towing and storage make the hassle worth it, at least that's what I tell myself every time i wack my head. It's great for the ease of towing, not so great for hanging out in.

I wouldn’t piss on a Jayco. Built like a tin shithouse in the depression. When we were looking at vans/haulers, my wife walked in one and then straight out. Told me there was no way she was spending that much coin on a coke can with glued on sparkles.

At my first ever race, my bike (1984 CR80) went in the back of Chevy powered Holden ute like the one below. Us 80s kids sure lived in a cool era.

I hauled my bikes in a HJ Sandman ute. Wish I still had it.

I built a trailer similar to the first picture. Was just tall enough to clear the bars, had a small work bench up front with tool/parts storage and the roof hinged up in the same manner, large enough for 2 bikes.
It didn't leak. It pulled great behind my '04 Canyon as it was completely in the slipstream.
I ended up buying a sled, and switched the trailer over to sled use/storage and replaced it with a 7x12 6' tall trailer for the bikes. It was much nicer for all those weekends at the track, much better to work in, camp out in etc... But it was hugely noticeable behind that little truck... Ended up buying a full size pick up to solve that issue.

Should have just stayed with the smaller trailer. Still have the full size truck, bought a hitch carrier and sold the big trailer. Building a rail style trailer to be pulled behind my Subaru and the truck will just sit unless needed for the boat.

I am building a truck cap with a lift up roof this summer. Will have enough room for a collapsible bed and room to get dressed. Don't need much more honestly. Minimum weight, easy set up, easy to heat if needed etc.

Those Australian built campers and such are a great source of ideas.

Hi-Ace isn't all that. I had a few living in Japan. The cab-over design with the engine under the seat does create more cargo room without increasing the overall length. But it also makes your ass hot. The version you have pictured is the regular height. Major PITA to get bikes loaded as the grips are just about rubbing the ceiling. These would never pass US DOT safety standards as your feet are literally on the back of the headlights so there is zero crumple zone. I was always ready to tuck my knees to my chest in case of any collision. Also, the track width is very narrow for the tight streets of Japan. Not good for the high speed interstates of the US. Toyota already lost this fight with their van in the US back in the 80's (also the Suzuki Samurai). You can address the narrow track and the low height with the optional wide and tall models, but then you've basically created a Sprinter or Transit.

Yea, the small size is what appeals to me. And apparently the no front crumple area is exactly why they
don't import them as it doesn't pass DOT. C'est le vie.

Beautiful! This setup is exactly what I was looking into about 6 months ago. The main difference was I was looking for a tandem axle trailer. Good man.

Theyve gone to a new design now for the Hiace. Gone is the death trap seating arrangement
Looks are polarizing and the base model is a gas 270hp v6. Being a gas toyota it will run forever verse the Euro Diesels that choke to death on emission controls. Wish Hundai made a slightly longer version of their van. That diesel engine can last forever with a few tricks.

Sort of off topic but not really...

To the Aussies, do you not have full size 1/2 ton trucks in Australia? I always see the little mid sized ones and the “utes”. But never see a Chevy 1500 or 2500.

Why is that?

The Chevy and Dodge trucks are now available here but are all well over $100,000.

I really want a HiAce.

And I’m more jealous for Aussies getting the Land Cruiser pickups.

Dime a dozen here landcruisers utes. Sound like crap with the V8 diesel and open pipes. Big dollars too.
Personally i like the new Hiace except wish it was a 3 seater not the two.

HiAces : :

OZ Moto / Enduro etc virtual ran on them, in the decades past. Even the 'Stars' traveled our Vast continent in them.

Now, like everything, everywhere, it's seems to have become about one upmanship / showing how much money you have (or, had).

I go to events now, even club races, and things have gotten pretty bloody fancy.

I've still got my 20 year old. LWB, Mid Top van, with rails and wheel chocks in the back , for up to 5 bikes, an extra row of seats, and a roll up mattress, quietly rusting away under my carport. Waiting for the 20 year old sedan to cark it, to then be put back into use - hell, it's only got about 150,000K on the clock - the old family Fairmont has 340,000K (kept after being offered $300 trade in when I bought my Old Mum a new little KIA) - still going strong! I spend my money on 2 wheels, and, Travel, mostly - not bloody cars.

Those 'tilt top' trailers? I've a few mates that had them. Worked well for them, mostly, with a good front cowl / spoiler, created very little extra fuel consumption, tow well, and, they can be stored more easily. But, the angle of the opened roof took some getting used to. They'd, inevitably, congregate around my Van, with it's Awning, and my QuickShade, as being more comfortable.

Full 'pop' top ones seem better.

But, bloody hell, the makers sure do know how to charge for them!

The Camping - "Glamping" - trailers out there can be mind boggling.

The clever design elements of them, are Very impressive, at times. And, that can be hard and expensive to do / make. I went to a camping and caravan show a while back with a mate who thinks he's Harry Butler, and the variety of the Bush Trailers was quite remarkable. And, the prices of them, even more so. Well, bloody astounding. I saw a couple, that were well, well over the $100K range.
