EVERYTHING is over a money issue.
The tracks are so damn jump-intensive that it seems like most guys are worried to try and make bold passes because if they miss and fall out of line they can lose several seconds or more in an instant.
Great racing is made from big 180 bowl corners with lots of banking. Whoops that challenge the entire field. Long straights that require entry speed and holding on the gas for just a little bit longer than the other guys.

Remember when you could actually tell the difference in skill level because only a few guys could actually pull off certain sections? The tracks today don’t allow this for the most part. Here are a few that come to mind..
Tracks like
San Diego 2005
Minneapolis 2002
Toronto 2014
Pontiac 2002
Several 2009 races

Pit Row

Anderson is living up to the name "FRIED" lately....
I talked to Roger in the airport this morning, and he said he walked the sand section after the race. His call? With the crazy side-to-side ruts, he called it dangerous.
Edit: In fact your comparison seems more applicable to Webb and RC, if you were to write of Webb's 450 struggles after a successful 250 career.
Flaggers are instructed to bring attention to the track crew by waving the flag. Track crew pick up bikes only when absolutely necessary.
