@Rob.......1st off , the pic you posted in the start of this thread , is truly incredible.
2nd......I will buy this book when I can , and if you could , please share a link , and maybe remind everyone once it's been released ( Please ).

I remember watching a few of the races there on the videos I've watched , and I was basically watching them with my jaw hanging in my lap. Seriously.......no motocross track on earth that I can remember , was based around some multi century castle. That alone is something we will probably never see again.

3rd......it's 2:30am here and I can't freakin' sleep , and this is the first thread I saw. Which I'm glad it was.

Thanks Jeffro

There should be plenty of media coverage come February 15th but I will remind people on here (so long as GuyB is OK with that).

Namur was an amazing place. And that's why I felt the need to dedicate an entire 32(!) page chapter to that one track.

I can’t wait to read the book Rob... I was fortunate enough to go to GPs at Namur 5 or 6 times inc the last one on 07, it truly is indescribable to anybody who hasn’t been, I took my Wife and son there about 3-4 years ago and they were literally saying things like... what the track came through here or up there or down there, until I stood and googled images saying look, see same trees or bridge or wall or building... they couldn’t believe it...

Hey Rob , what's the back story on the Namur castle and all the surrounding walls there? I mean , how old is it?

I believe they were still racing there all the way up until 06, maybe even later than that..

I’m no historian, but the Citadel has been there since Medieval times, when they hurled rocks with trebuchets. The stone work on the exterior visible today is actually like a veneer on much older and less sophisticated rock walls.

The roman empire used the place already as a frotress. It was rebuild like it is now at around year 1820s. Later on a piece of the citadelle was given to the city of Namur , where they build the esplanade and also the park. The citadelle was still used by the Belgian military’s till the end of the seventies i think. When they left, Namur became the owner of the citadelle.

If it doesn’t have man made whoops and manicured groomed soil and stadium seated comfort it’s not real motocross

Wow! Thanks man ( And you too 752dad ). It's amazing to hear of all the old structures in a lot of the European countrysides , towns and cities. America is still so new , we really don't have anything like that here. There was one guy on here , that told me a lot of buildings and homes in his town were 400+ years old , and that his house was actually built onto part of an old castle that was built in the late 1500's! That is just crazy! They built them places to last. Now days we can't get 20 years out of a roof haha!

I've posted about Namur before but it never gets old talking about it and seeing pictures. That shot of Malherbe by the wall was one of the years I was there. 1985 I believe. That hill was so steep that they had ropes tied to the trees so you could pull yourself up. I walked every inch of that track in 85. That first time was the best weekend of my MX life. I even slept in my car right at the base of the castle.

They actually added a series of smaller jumps or large whoops depending on how you look at it at some point. Maybe late 90s ?
