It seems Mfg’s are upping their $$$ for amateurs, it would be nice to see A mag, or ML512, or somebody to do a comparison, it mite just sway some people to a different brand

Suzuki by far pays the best.

Honda, Yamaha and KTM are near the same as each other.

My pops races 50+ expert and Suzuki pays $150 a win while the rest only pay $75 and $50.

They also had a crazy contingency program for Loretta’s this year. Don’t remember the details exactly, but I think they paid double contingency and they offered the same towards the purchase of a new Suzuki for everyone not already on one. So they are handing out deals to people who haven’t even bought bikes from them. Pretty cool in my opinion.

Something I've never understood or liked is only paying contingency on bikes that are just a couple years old. If a guy can go out and kick the shit out of everyone on older technology they should get the same contingency. Still looks good or better for the brand. If they want us to buy bikes every 2 years again like the old days then make them $5000 again.

Only you know which class/series you're interested in.
Few minutes of clicking through the various programs is all it should take for you to figure out what's best for you.

What kinds of races are you talking about? Just a local Saturday race at any random motocross track or is this just for specific events where it is available? Only curious because it seems like there would be a lot of questions such as how do you prove your win, how many people have to be in a class, etc. Thanks,

My dad races with SwapMoto Series. With contingency, if the promoter is set up for MFG contingency, the promoter sends in the results and MFG’s like Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki give you a debit card and add the money to the card. Suzuki will pay top 2 with 3 riders in the class and I think the top 5 with 7 riders. That might have changed but that’s what it used to be.

Think of contingency like a rebate. You buy a current model bike, you do well on it, they send some of your money back.

A friend of mine also said Suzuki had the best contingency so he got a RMZ a couple of years ago, but he never got great results, so he swapped to Kawasaki last year, he did much better and ended up with more contingency money than what he would of got had he got the same results on the Suzuki (based on same year contingency rates)..... not that I am implying this would apply to everyone else, just a interesting observation

Kawi used to pay $350 a win at my local off road races. I could race two times on a weekend to potentially make $700 on a debit cart I could use anywhere. Sometimes I wonder if Suzuki should just pull out of racing and put up a couple mill in amateur contingency. I would ride an rm if they paid $350 a win.

Shoot, I remember the good old days of Yamaha paying $500 to win the C class at the Golden State series back in about 1992. If you bought your bike from North County Yamaha and ran their graphics, they would double your contingency in one class per day. If you rode 125 and 250 C on the same day, that’s a potential $1500 payout to dominate the C class!

The way I knew it back in the day it was not $ paid but cashed in at your dealer in a parts allowance and if you won enough you could buy a new bike.

They sent you a check if you raced A. Everyone else was dealer credit if I recall correctly.

Yup. My dad rode for them and used his contingency money to buy new bikes each year as well as my 92 PW50. Wish I could do that now to help buy my new bikes and bikes for the family.

I started winning contingency in 1986 riding the 250 Int class and 250 open class as well.

A good Texas series race I could win 400-500 riding both classes in Yz Bucks.

This is what is currently very broken in local and regional racing. The promoters don't track points/wins year over year and dont have the wherewithal to force riders to move up.

That and beginner class should be capped in the number of beginner races and then auto-move to C. But if no one is tracking, the status quo remains.
