I think both of them probably remember it a bit differently and the truth was somewhere in the middle. James did seem to be very honest about this particular moto in the most recent interviews he put out. He said he was sick of the games, not that he was tired. Also, Ricky was an animal and everyone will get their panties in a bunch but this was all pre WADA....

Lol, what?? RC completely wore Bubba out in motocross several times. Stewart didn't have Ricky's endurance and RC knew it. Stewart could rarely ever hold Ricky's pace for a whole moto so if Ricky was behind James he would often just wear him out or wait for a mistake.

Nobody else gave rc a run for his money like James... we were impressed by the speeds they went I’m sure they were scared shitless every moto they redefined how fast a bike could go.

I think RC's competitive spirit was still stirring when asked about Stewart's pure talent. he was hesitant in answering, but I wish he'd straight up said he was the fastest racer our sport has ever seen and put a real emphasis on that. this part of the interview is a bit of a downer for me because I can tell he wants to say that, but relegates to a more vague answer. it wouldn't have taken a thing from RC in saying so, but I don't know, just an observation, I could be wrong.

Because he wouldn't be telling the truth. Indoors, the racing was hit or miss on who would win between RC, Stewart, and Reed. Although the champoinships favor RC. But outside, no one had anything for RC. No one has, or I believe ever will be, as dominant as RC was outside. He beat everyone he ever lined up against. From McGrath to Stewart to all the ridiclously fast guys in between.

I hear you, but they're all "one of the fastest guys to ever ride a motorcycle". and when it comes to speed, Stewart has to be the top guy. I think Carmichael would probably say that in person, but in the interview it just slid to a more vague answer. I just thought it would have been cool if he'd expounded on it a bit further, because it must have been a unique experience to be in RC's shoes and suddenly have to worry about this individual. it would be like if Bradshaw had entered the premier class in 88 against Johnson; those are rare moments in the sport's history.

I’ve wrote this before but when James, RC and Reed were on the line which IMO was the best era as the races today barley look any different at the top at least for speed, it went James 16 wins, RC 8 wins and Reed 4 wins and the only race where all three of them raced that one of the big 3 didn’t win was the first time all three of them raced and Windham won.

I'm mainly referring to 2003 SX where Reed won more races than RC and finished only a few points back. Surely that qualifies as giving him a run?
