If it weren’t for my entire family being local, I would have moved the minute I realized just how much money I spend just to live here.
Who knows, maybe you’re well off, and in that case it would be good, but if you’re middle class like most of us here, you’re giving away most of your money just for the letters CA to appear on your drivers license

Traffic, homeless, insane tax rate, insane gas prices, insane house prices, insane cost of living, and literally insane politicians.
O sure we have the mountain and the beach within 2 hours , but with the cost to live down here makes it hard to afford the family outing to do so.
I am telling you, unless you make above 200k a year, you are working to pay the bills.
100k salary doesn’t get you a damn thing here, and it’s maddening.

Geographically, nothing beats California! But when you factor in the cost of living, it isn’t worth it. We wanted to get out of here bad, but couldn’t/can’t afford to.
It’s purely a supply and demand problem.
I think L.A. loves this and for that it will always be full of wealthy people and wannabes.
You Californians are spoiled and don’t realize how good you have it.
Yeah it appears cheaper to live other places but the add on fees are not always advertised. Flood insurance, electric bills, natural gas bills, etc etc. it all comes out as a wash when you break it down to hours of available outside activities. Yeah it’s cheaper to live other places but the availability to do things outside are limited by weather and geographical location. For example. There are no hills to bomb on a mtb in the South and if there were it would be weather permitting. Here in Aliso Viejo I can get to trails within minutes and ride them damn near 52 weeks a year and to me that is worth a few extra dollars for gas, taxes, whatever. Not to mention the availability of several tracks about an hour away. In the South there was 1 within an hour, another about 1.5 and all the rest 2+. Hrs. with that number being about 3 in total. So 5 ish tracks less than 2 hrs. All the rest 3 hrs plus.

What that specific photo doesn’t clarify is the cars to the right of you are all put PARKED on that 241/91 connector....to go the 1 mile to the 91 is easily 30 minutes to an hour, and then you are sitting in a minimum of another hour of traffic just to move another 3 or 4 miles once you’re on the 91. O and that doesn’t include the mile of traffic BEFORE your photo was taken
I know, I drove it daily for well over 2 years. Some days were better than others sure, but 9 times outta 10 it was a parking lot. To go 15-20 miles took 2 hours if I got off at 5....it was an absolute nightmare m.
Sitting at a test track and parking on the beach are awesome, but those are vacation photos, not reality photos....

The fair cost comparisons would be living in a major city compared to SoCal not some little town in the middle of nowhere.
BTW. I work with people that make $75k and they too are doing fine as well. Hell, he even commutes 52 mi each way to work.
Win win!
I was bored out of my mind and it was cold up there so I had to move closer to SoCal.
