The 500 two strokes lasted till the early 2000s so I think they qualify, but they were known for deadly high sides. I think Rossi's the last one in MotoGP these days that rode one of those. I think they changed the rules in 2003 and gave 4 strokes twice the displacement of the two strokes. Traction control really began to be developed in the four-stroke era after that.
When you talk traction control I think of that race a couple years ago when Marquez got into dani coming into a turn and accidently clipped the tc cable. dani hit the throttle and it launched him.

Personally, I think traction control and electronics in general (traction control, braking control, suspension control, etc) should be disallowed in racing. And on a side note it pisses me off that I can't buy a high end bike anymore and have the ability off the showroom floor to turn it all completely off. I have to pay extra (and do) for gadgets to do that.

I agree with doing away with electronic controls in MotoGP. While we're at it let's get rid of the fuel capacity limits. That's why I love my 2005 z1000. Totally analog bike. In terms of high-end sport bikes / street bikes there are some useful things. Well sorted ABS for instance. I prefer traction control via the right wrist.

Yep I agree, totally dig my analog 01 FZ1.

Can't imagine needing more performance for it's intended use.

ABS is okay on the street as long as it isn't intrusive. I had to pay extra for a dongle for both my GEN5 ZX10R and my '17 Super Duke to be able to disable the ABS. On the Super Duke it gave me a "Super Moto" mode which disables the rear and makes the front much less intrusive, in addition to letting me turn both front and rear off. My ZX10R is actually okay with just the front enabled (dongle still required to disable rear). I want to be able to do a full stoppie with ABS on, and if I can't I want to be able to turn it off, I want to be able to slide my rear wheel whenever I feel like it and I only want the front to kick in if the front actually starts to slide. That's the way I have both bikes set up but it can't be done without the dongle. But the bottom line is "I" should be able to decide how I want to set "my" bike up. I don't want someone else being my nanny and I don't want to have to pay extra for a stupid dongle.

I didn’t see that one coming. Jorge has had some big crashes in his day sounds like he is over it.

Interesting way events play out for Zarco. 2 months ago he was out of a job now he is a shoe in for the Repsol Honda team. Hope he gets the ride and is successful.

During qualifying they were floating the idea of Alex Marquez moving into the HRC spot and Zarco going to Ducati.

I wonder how he'll do? He's good but fairly inconsistent.

Marc did 5 years in the lower classes with a championship in each and a total of 26 wins. Alex got two championships in 8 years with a total of 12 wins. Wonder if that would earn anyone else a spot on HRC? dani did 5 years with 3 championships and 23 wins to get that slot in his first year.

It always bugs me when I see these guys linger around in a crash zone and don't keep an eye open behind them. This (and much worse) is what can happen.

He might have been a little dazed after that get off. At that point I would still have been checking my parts to make sure they all worked.

Zarco confirmed on Avintia Ducati for 2020, will be running the 2019 Ducati GP19. Not a top team but I'm glad he's staying in MotoGP.
