Have an 84 200x I use to help pack the dirt on jump faces and berms on my arena-x track. Got a little flat circle track too, so fun on a 3-wheeler!

And then Honda did the same right back to them with the TRX250R.

I also thought 4 wheels were better than two, until I tried them back to back in the sand dunes (never was and never will be a duner). Three wheelers > 4 every time in the dunes. I’d still take my cr500 over either though.

Back in the mid '80's, Dave Bickers (1960's GP rider) built a trike out of a CB1100 road bike and raced it at the Weston Beach Race. It was spinning the rear wheels at 110mph down the main straight, but was a bit of a handful through the dunes.
His company (Bickers Action) make stunt equipment for films, and all the crazy stuff on Top Gear. They build some insane things!

THATS A KILLER 1986, I JUST PICKED UP THIS 1983 250R. LOVE THESE BIKES. BEEN RIDING THREE WHEELERS SINCE I WAS ABOUT 9 YEARS OLD. DONT LIKE RIDING ANYTHING ELSE.

When I hear 250r I think 3 or 4 wheeler. Dirt bikes are CR250, CRF250, or XR250, never heard anyone call any of those a 250r

Why were the forks setup as trailing axle? I still think they look like the forks are on backwards when I see them.

British Championship Trike race from about 1985/86. The white bike is a Phillips - a brand built in Bristol, UK using a KTM engine in their own hand-made chassis. The company owners' son Kevin Phillips dominated trike and then quad racing in the UK on these bikes for a few years.

Not too many "Baby Huey" references in here... I remember his dad with his apron on hollerin at him from time to time. Then turn to you and practically give you the shirt off his back to keep you racing. Good fun family the Neary's!

That trick KTM was built by his brother if I remember right. Then when John was sponsored by Honda they couldn't make the chassis work like the Suzuki's so John and his brother showed up at the San Jose national with the Honda in a Zook frame. Freakin hilarious, that national was famous for a few things.

The white ones where supposed to be the '87's that never got sold in the US. I think they were sold in Australia or something? Either way this guy has a bad ass collection of trikes. I wish I had my 86 250r still and my '89 TRX.

There are no 87 250R's to find.They may have mocked some up for very early 87 advertising in some markets but there never was a production run of them. the white 250R's in the pic are white 85/86 models.

This isn’t from 1989. Those quads on the right are from like 2005-2010. Looks like some 300EX, 400EX, some YFZ450s and Raptors. I’m interested in the story on this photo, too. Some Tecate-3s on the top left. What a collection.

Thanks for the Neary first hand knowledge. Interesting- unknown to me. It was a good time back then for 2-3-4 wheelers.
