This ‘78 is just like my first bike.
The ‘76 was my buddies actual bike.
Both are original survivors other than the tall seat and exhaust on the ‘78

The first bike I bought my son. 85 XR 100. The one bike I should've kept around but, I sold it to help pay for his next bike.

They do! I found an older version / model of this on eBay for 189.00 and purchased it instantly. The seller made contact and said ti was already sold, but would honor the purchase and give the newer model, same price. Basically its the end cap that was different. Very happy with it. I lucked out on this one.

Al baker (XR's Only) has 20% off on BLK Friday. At least they did last year, I'm going to pony up on the header.

The header looks good. Are the tubed much larger than stock? Did you get a black Friday sale?

It's so big that I had to do the opposite where the header meets the pipe. The pipe fit inside the header with some filing and manipulation. BLK friday @ xr's only. 160.00

That’s a nice, clean XR350! Is that an 87 CR rear fender?

Me and my 1986 XR250 in better days (for both). It was my harescramble bike that wasn't afraid to play a little MX.

That’s badass! I feel like the XR line was underrated by people who never tried one. Great picture

Big XR fan here. Underrated bike and piece of engineering. Here is my (now sold) 2003 plated XR250R:

And my XR650L dual sporter that I was turning into a 1980s homage:

Thanks,

BP

Both look great! Did you make the 250 street legal, or buy it that way? Cool concept on the 650L, looks like it came from 1985!

I bought another frame, reg'd it, then swapped it over. Lots of work but was well worth it for where I live. Story of the build:

Thanks. I recently got a great deal on a 96 XR400 with a street title. I’ve always wanted one of these. It’s going to need some cleaning up, but is in pretty good shape, and runs well. Even though it was registered for street use, it’s lacking street equipment. I’ve installed a DOT approved Acerbis headlight, and working on finding the rest. The Tusk dual sport kit is $188 I think, much less than Baja designs. I’m not sure how good it is, but still studying. It’s a stand-alone kit that uses a battery for everything except the headlight. I’d like to add a rectifier and regulator to have 12VDC for everything, rather than relying on a small battery. I’m kind of picking the brains of others who’ve done this. I tried the link you sent, but it didn’t seem to work. I’ll try again to be sure. Thanks

Hallzilla, are those stock forks on your XR? And were you able to notice any difference from your new head pipe?
I found a lightened flywheel to let the motor rev a little quicker and not ride so much like a trail bike

They are stock. Would love to upgrade to a CRF450 front end someday. I just serviced them though and must say they are super plush. I did feel a slight power increase everywhere, and better throttle response for sure. It was way worth it when paired with the DG exhaust. My friends race xr100's and have lightened the flywheel on them a ton. I might have to look into this. Any repercussions from doing this flywheel mod ? Hurting the motor ?

The big XR forks are cartridge---just like the '88 CR. Very desirable for vintage builds. RaceTech has a kit.

Why would there be a harm with lightening the FW to the engine Hallzilla? I would think less weight on the crank would be better for longevity. As long as you don't Rev it like a cr85
