Look to the three letters on the Seat and 'Radiator' shroud.

Look up BBR - Brown Brothers Racing.

That's an Aluminium frame.

I'd not be surprised if that was a $15,000 to $20,000 build - way back then. Either MXA or Dirt Bike tested it - or, both, and other mags like Dirt Rider.

That bike was built at a time where it was impossible to fathom a racing 4 stroke 250 for mx.

Xr200 off the latest jump we built with shovels at our private playground. TTR 125 is in front. By far the biggest air I've ever caught on pit style bike. Almost feels like being on the big bike. Almost.

I like that having a good time with your son is more important than a nice lawn

1984. In Oz we had an XR80 class and back then the YZ80J frame was the go to frame. Here i am running the over the top pipe whereas in the bottom photo I’m running the down under pipe.
They were loud as they were flat out most of the race and the pipes were megaphone style as well.
These bikes were temperamental i think i had Yoshimura cams and stuff in this bike

I see an 84 in Schaumburg for the same price. Is that the one ? Did those have dual carbs ?

That's the one.
Dual carbs , yes...We had two of them back in the day ( $2,000.) new
The dual carbs ..one carb came on on off idle the 2nd carb came open later
Giving the bike a "Power band" feel.
I liked it.

I rode my first dual carb Honda recently, an 86
XL600R. It’s funny, you twist the throttle until it feels like you’re full throttle when the throttle hits resistance, then twist a little harder, and there’s another half throttle to go! It took a little getting used to, but pretty cool

I love when the price goes up lol. Is it the same seller ? I didn't pay attention to that before. Sometimes people try to flip bikes for a quick profit.

My buddy's bike was apart, but I wanted to go racing. I loaned him my YZ125 and took his XR600. I was in 2nd in woodsman until I dropped it in a turn and couldn't get it started quick enough.

Here’s mine. 1981 XR80. First bike I ever road. When I found out my uncle was selling it, I drove from Charlotte NC to Buffalo NY to get it. Story was the original owner’s son fell and broke his arm the week they got it. Put it in the barn until a garage sale in 1990 where my uncle picked it up for $100. His son rode it here and there but never took much to it. When I was big enough I got my chance and it sparked my interest in moto. Some 25 years later he still had it, kept it up and clean for one reason or another. Aside from normal things like fuel line, spark plugs, tires and levers, it’s all original to my knowledge including the engine. Never even a set of rings. Still has the warning sticker on the tank and the dealership sticker on the swing arm. I ride it for enjoyment but take it easy most of the time. Currently looking for a similar year for a hot rod type build, something I can thrash on from time to time. If anyone knows of an ‘82 or earlier xr80 around Charlotte Nc, complete bike, parts bike or parts let me know!

I picked up an 85 xr600 motor that has compression and I have a 96 frame with 2002 yz forks. Can't wait to start building it. So far I'm about $1000 into it.

I went to adjust the valves, and it appears that the left side is not moving at all. I'm going to take it further apart tomorrow. When I bought it he said I should try adjusting the valves. I think that was his clue that he knew what was wrong with the motor, but just didn't want to tell me directly. I just hope it isn't too involved and that I can find replacement parts easily.

The cam was broke. At first I thought it might have dual cams, until I got a closer look at it.

^^ OOF! Hope the cam journals aren't shot. That's a typical result of running low on oil and it wipes out the journals. Good luck!

I'll start a build thread here in old school. I don't want to take away from the glory of this thread. But they didn't look too bad?

Yeah that's what I'm doing, I started a thread in the bike builds area, but I discover something new with every part I take off. It has a bent valve too.
