7/15/2022 4:50am Transmission was junk, bought a used one in good shape, right crankcase was also bad, new piston, new rod and all bearings replaced. Swing arm polished and frame powder coated.

1/11/2021 2:36am I just bought a new Wiseco piston for my 88 CR125. The bike sat in storage from 1999 until last summer. I’ve been riding it occasionally since then, and it’s time for a cleanup bore and piston. The piston I received is much different than the 1990’s Wiseco I last put in it years ago. No milled flats at the...

1/10/2021 7:34pm Awesome, I’ll check it out. Sounds like a bigger bike might be needed if you’re on a 125 against 300’s! At least in that scenario, flat out in a straight line. Sounds like a good time though

1/10/2021 7:13pm That’s interesting, what exactly are you doing with that engine, that 25 rpms would be noticeable? It sounds like you’re running the piss out of it, whatever this application is! One hour of life from a piston is pretty rough. I know they’re not meant to last forever, but an hour is a short life by any standard.

1/8/2021 4:49pm Yeah, I’m guessing that it’s because it’s an old bike, and not as much demand as newer bikes, that they went with only one option (the easiest/cheapest option for them) for this bike. I wish they’d stuck with the original. I’m sure it’s still a quality piston, and may even last longer, but I’m not sure how or if the...

1/7/2021 6:11pm In one of the previous threads I believe there was an actual address posted. I'll look for it and maybe you can pass the address to your contact over at PayPal so that they can pass it on to the authorities. Edit: He used different names, however the address was always the same, so maybe it's a legit place. Always uses. 20 Radcliffe Rd. Boston, MA 02134

1/7/2021 6:04pm I’ve got a really nice white one with red letters if that’s close enough. Also a slightly worn blue one with white lettering.

1/7/2021 5:51pm I got lucky. I collect old gear and am always looking for stuff. I’ve found lately the best bet is to search Facebook market place. A few nights a week I will search different areas across the country. I’ve had good luck with people willing to ship and do PayPal if I throw them a few extra bucks. I found this Shoei listed in Portland a few weeks ago for 20 bucks. A lady had it still in the bag and the liner is in great shape.

10/21/2020 9:56am Here is my 1975 XR75. I rescued it a couple of years ago. The guy told me that it was a 1974 and the tank color would indicate so. However the VIN on the motor and frame says it is a 1975. That worked out for me because 1975 is what I really wanted. The motor is bone stock except for the clutch that I replaced. I had the tank fixed and painted so it is original.

Jim in VA Started a new thread Old school early 90’s chest protector FS.
7/26/2020 6:05pm I recently dug up an old Answer chest protector I got in the early 90’s. It’s in good shape, just needs a good scrub. The elastic is still elastic, and everything is intact and usable. Not sure what it’s worth, but thinking $100 is a good starting point. If you’re interested, let me know, and we can work out the...

7/26/2020 5:33pm Yep, you’re totally correct. Cast aluminum often has quite a bit of magnesium, zinc, and other metals. They react differently depending on the concentration of alloying elements. It’s also why welding some cast aluminum parts works really well, and other pieces weld like crap. Sometimes there’s no replacement for effort.

7/25/2020 5:46pm Piston position has no influence on this. Also, it’s a coincidence that it won’t start, nothing with the powervalve will keep it from running. What manual are you referencing? I might be able to send you a few pics from my Honda service manual tomorrow if you need them

7/24/2020 3:21pm I would second Matt Fisher here. The aluminum brightener is an acid formula that removes the surface oxides on the aluminum parts. But.. it’s not a degreaser or cleaner. It needs to be able to interact with the aluminum/aluminum oxide itself. If the parts are dirty, greasy, oily, proper cleaning is needed before doing the acid treatment. The acid is...

7/9/2020 2:44pm Google DIY soda blaster, the one with the air nozzle inside a clear tube. Works great on degreased aluminum, do it outside. A length of rope and polishing compound works good inside cooling fins.

7/3/2020 3:24pm I would tell him "sorry to hear that, you checked it out thoroughly", have a nice day. I would not touch the bike at all. You will be opening the door to him claiming more problems, don't be a sucker. I agree with all who said it's a scam, ignore him.

7/3/2020 3:14pm MaxPower, that’s quite an improvement in the pictures. I used to use the aluminum brightener acid sold by Napa when I did a lot of aluminum welding. It worked well too, you just had to be careful with it, and be sure to rinse it off thoroughly, not letting it sit too long. It removed oxidation very well.

5/16/2020 6:09pm That’s great information. I’ve been looking for some information on this subject. I recently bought a spare cylinder and head, supposed to be from an 87, but I’d like to maybe use it on my 88. I’ve been trying to determine what year the cylinder is. Is the difference in the port placement pretty obvious, or just small differences? Any...
