Whole grains, fruits and vegetables with the occasional meat-based meal. Wash it down with water. Do like our ancestors did, eating small quantities of nuts & berries all day long unless they were extremely lucky and killed something - only then did they get meat. That's the best way to maintain a healthy diet.

Fat is good for you, in the right quantities. So is salt. Your body will manufacture cholesterol if you don't have enough in your bloodstream from your diet.

Of course, good luck avoiding all the chemicals and processing in today's maximum-profit food delivery system. That's the stuff which is killing us. I am 100% convinced that artificial sweetener is engineered to initiate obesity and a physiological dependence on anxiety drugs.

Ignorance is bliss. Cavemen had refrigerators and grocery stores? I have been a vegetarian and a carnivore, I choose vegetarian. I know a lot of people like you, judging the unknown from ignorance. The animals of today are not the animals of 1000 years ago, or even 100 years ago. In 1919 chickens were 2% body fat, now they are 25% body fat, not including the steroids and antibiotics. Pork is a carcinogen and the fat in all red meat is known to form clots. So enjoy your first heart bypass and stroke recovery. Now I went FULL RETARD.
What do refrigerators and grocery stores have to do with this? I was quoting you saying you believe we were never meant to eat animals, despite the fact that we wouldn't be here without eating animals. Now you're talking about modern farmed animals? That's a different argument. Also I don't really eat much red meat, mostly chicken and fish, so even if those studies are correct I couldn't care less, I'm in perfect health... I wonder if you can say the same.

A burger from the farm next county over (or deer from the timber behind my house) is way better environmentally than a TVP burger made in the giant shitty ass factory I work in. Plant based CAN be better, but it is sometimes worse.

Plant based is a pretty good marketing term. Stops people from saying Vegan or Vegetarian.

To me however is just means eat more plants than meat. Personally I can't really eat Legumes or basically anything with Starch in it. Not without running the risk of my Ank Spond arthritis flaring up, and having to live on anti inflammatories. .Unfortunately Starch is in nearly bloody everything. I got really good at reading labels and spotting starch - Thickner 1442 etc is starch, blah blah.

In my younger years I tried Vegetarian. Properly, and for 6 months. Never felt so weak and sludgy. The day after I had meat for the first time in 6 months I was bouncing off the walls.

Joe Rogan just did a podcast with Chris Kresser about why it's mostly bunk. Haven't listened to it yet so no idea what points were made.
lots of very good ones, backed by more science than that whole movie consisted of.

What oil should I use in my dirtbike?

In all seriousness, just cut out sugar as much as you can from your diet and keep daily carb intake less than 100 grams. Do that and you'll lose weight and keep it off.

Last time my daughter and I were in CA for the USGP we finally made it to In and Out. Talk about a good hamburger but the water shortage thing has got me thinking. By 2050 at the current rate meat production will no longer be sustainable due to projected water shortages. The amount of water and protein that go into a single 12 oz steak is incredibly wasteful when compared to directing that same water and grain to a much larger number of people;

A close friend of mine gave up eating meat but not dairy and fish in the mid 70s after reading a Swedish study on athletes that showed meat breaks down glucose or something else directly related to stamina. The top marathon runners at that time were mainly vegetarians and this was a big factor in his decision.

I suspect most high level athletes don’t eat much meat. Just as in the entirety of human history, meat was not the primary staple since one it was hard to come by and two there were more benefits to keeping animals available alive.

Myself, I’ve only eaten about six-ten ounces of meat per week and about a half dozen eggs in hopes of just maintaining my muscle mass. Now, I’m primarily plant based, heavy on the anti-inflammatory foods and feel much better, my weight has dropped to my high school level, and my athletic performance is more even (les physical highs and lows).

Anything can be debated, good or bad, I believe “The Game Changers” has a valuable message for most.

^^^^ this. I found out I had high cholesterol (306) at the age of 26. I was working with FC on some video projects and Zig told me to read the China Study. That book convinced me to try a 99.9% plant based diet by eliminating all meat and dairy, and minimizing fish. Shortly after this, I had met Garth Milan on a JS7/Red Bull shoot and saw first hand how to be a traveling vegan which is extremely tough! But he’d been doing it for 15-20 years and this further inspired me to continue the journey. All I did was eat a variety of plants and always had 4+ colors on my plate. I did this for 2 years and I honestly couldn’t have felt any better... I went from 180lbs to 160lbs and my cholesterol dropped to under 200 without taking any pharmaceuticals which was my goal. It helped my riding endurance on the bike and big time with arm pump.

Now this was my own personal experiment but I’m curious how other people will feel after conducting their own personal experiment with a 99% plant based diet. I encourage each person to challenge themselves and give it a try to make their own judgement. Don’t be a pussy and try it for two weeks. Try 6 months - out of you entire life, that’s not that long and decide for you, if you notice a difference in your body.

Today, I eat 95% plant based and 5% organic meat/dairy but mostly because it’s inconvenient to eat 100% plant based and I’m grinding day to day growing a business so time is limited. But the world is transitioning and it’s become easier with food services like Purple Carrot so I’m excited.

My 2 cents for what it’s worth.
Thanks for sharing your story. It made me do some searching and I found this: The American Dietetic Association has acknowledged that vegetarians are less at risk for a number of chronic diseases, including heart disease, some types of cancer, obesity, high blood pressure, and adult-onset diabetes.

Curious, why did you minimize fish and how many years are you into this program?

I’m assuming we are talking about “what the health”? It certainly made me want to go to a plant based diet. The cholesterol is what kills us in the meat. Who would have thought that the pharma companies sell more to farmers for the animals than humans.

We evolved with these teeth called canines, they in fact are there to tear meat so we can eat it... Crazy isn’t it?

Sorry, I didn't notice you live outside the U.S. Your diet would be way better then the garbage eaten here. Yes I am in very good health. I am 52 yrs old 6'4" 195 pounds exercise daily and my latest comprehensive metabolic panel was stellar.

Do you cook all meal yourself? What is a typically daily menu for you?

I would like to switch, but I have a hard time as it is to get to my 2500-3000 Cal per day without fast carbs or suger.

I watched the documentary and it motivated me to make changes with my diet. I'm a little over three weeks in and I have lost weight and haven't had any issues with endurance, energy, or anything really. I definitely didn't have the best diet before but I also didn't live off of Big Mac's either. I did this previously after college and I lost 40 pounds (6'2" from 225 to 185) and I'm back to where I was in college at 225 thanks to bad eating / drinking habits and a couple surgeries that kept me from working out.

To help me, I had my blood tested and my Cholesterol was high as was my carbs and triglycerides. I'm going to keep the diet up for 6 months and have everything retested and that will let me know what I should do going forward. For reference, I didn't eat red meat before hand but I did have white meat for lunch and dinner most days. For now, I would say I'm 98% plant based. If I'm at a Steak House work dinner, I'll order a salmon and veggies to fit in or on Thanksgiving I'll eat a little Turkey to keep my lady happy But other than situations like that, I'm fully Plant based and feel great.

Of course, some of the documentary was a stretch but I believe the overall message was good. I'll know in 6 months if it's for me or not.

As a species we would never of evolved without a meat diet. Between tribalism and winter in early evolution crops could not be planted to sustain a population.

I Mentioned it up higher but just curious Have any of you guys seen the move ( The Magic Pill ) ?
It's on Netflix.
I thought it made perfect sense.
It basically says Vegan works for some.
And an All meat Diet works for some. but processed foods and Sugars are bad for everyone.
After hearing Joe Rogan talk about an all meat Diet.
I Tried it For a Week , I Ate Steak , nothing but Steak for a week. I Grilled Rib eyes 5 at a time and Ate them Reheated throughout the next few days. and Repeated that.
Process. During that week I lost 10 pounds , Didn't feel hungry my cravings for sweets went away.
And I never felt better.
I still went back to eating normally Wich means eating shitty. Out of convenience and affordability.
Bad foods are cheaper.
I couldn't afford to eat steak every day at restaurants.
But I do think I would be much healthier on a primarily meat Diet.
I Think for others Maybe a no meat and a vegan diet would be better for them.
Any one who has seen that movie , let me know your opinion thanks.

I agree with you but I have always felt like people aren't supposed to or weren't meant to stay in Places that freeze in the during the winter months, just sort of a gut feeling.
I have always felt like people were meant to migrate back and forth to a warmer climate. Like the geese do.
Now days most people can't do that with jobs etc but I've always thought that. Just a feeling that humans weren't meant to stay in one place there whole lives

I'm not arguing that humans are not omnivorous, because we are (in low moderation), but......

Everyone mentioning the existence of canine teeth in our mouths as "proof" we were meant to eat meat might want to take a step back and think.

All herbivore/insectivores:

To add fuel to the fire: This is an interesting diet and will certainly make you re-think your food choices:

https://whole30.com/

An elimination diet that has you remove sugars, wheat and dairy for 30 days so you can then add them back in and see what effect it has on your body. A real game changer for me. Basically if you can't pronounce it, you shouldn't eat it. It made a lot of sense for me. I don't have a dairy or gluten intolerance but it completely eliminated my desire for sweets. Fruit tastes amazing now! I was never a huge fruit eater until this diet. It allowed me to get off all soda and I only drink water/coffee and an occasional bourbon. It takes serious meal planning but it is something I continue to do today.

Your mileage my vary, but it is certainly worth looking into.
