Curious what people’s opinions are here. Does it work and help with training and recovery? There’s a new local company up here in New England - www.akavie.com - that’s been sponsoring local MX which is awesome and there’s a lot of buzz going around. I’ve never tried it and the prices seem very expensive. Is it worth it? If so how much/often do you recommend? Any insight is appreciated!

Meh......it’s ok. Helps me sleep a little but it’s not really a game changer or anything.

100% worth it.

Here in Australia is illegal.
However, I had a really sever injury and suffered from many things on the medical side and was able to be supplied it.

I was very against it and skeptical of it at first, but after really researching and putting it to test my self.
I'm a huge fan and can see it being a huge part of the every day healthy living in the future.

No doubt it’s expensive and not everyone can afford to buy it. But if you can afford to buy the good stuff, it has many benefits. One dropper in the morning and one at night. It’s helped me tremendously with nerve pain in my neck and inflammation throughout my whole body. I know I will be using it

Well, the active ingredient in every one of the CBD topical ointment products is methyl salicylate and then somewhere soon after is menthol. The amount of CBD in these ointments is minuscule and there is simply no way any meaningful amount of CBD is making it's way into your bloodstream and having any sort of intended effect. If you are rubbing a CBD ointment on your skin and think it does anything more than BenGay, you are a gullible fool.

People with epilepsy benefit greatly from CBD administered orally. There is science to back that up. Everything else is placebo snakeoil horseshit.

100% accurate. Just like DMSO in the early ‘80’s. I still swear by Epsom salts baths, though.

I beg to differ.... but you’re not the only one doubting it. Until it has helped you feel better, you have no reason to buy into it, I get it ! But I can tell you first hand, it has done great things for me. But it’s expensive to maintain the level that I am taking (drops / orally). To me, it’s hard to put a price on feeling good. To each their own....

So it's roughly 11 bucks a day and you feel noticeably better ? hmmmmm... Wonder if a $4.00 a day dose would help. Laughing Have you experimented with taking lower doses or is 2 droppers a day the minimum to feel anything ?

For people with serious conditions like seizures or chronic illnesses, it’s a life saver. For the general public, it’s a fad that a bunch of people are making millions off of. Ibuprofen is probably a better call.

That doesn't make any sense. How can it be "A lifesaver" for one person, and "A fad, the same as ibuproen" for someone else ?
Tell me what I'm missing....

It has been shown to reduce seizures and symptoms of illnesses along with some pain reducing benefits. If a person doesn't have those types off issues, CBD is not going to do much.

This isn’t helping my decision making process Silly lots of mixed opinions here! Nobody is saying it helps the body recover quicker or more efficiently or perform better while racing. I’m 32 and have had some injuries but nothing that really nags me today so I’m not hearing a benefit for me. If anyone has tried this as part of the training/race/recovery regiment I’d be interested in hearing your experience.

Heres my experience with CBD. At 50mg doses, it 100% calms me down and helps my knee i broke a year ago. Also an added bonus is it helps with anxiety in social situations.

But it doesnt provide any advantages. It doesnt improve fitness or or recovery or anything like that. Theoretically it could help with armpump. armpump is from tight riding. If youre relaxed and calmer, arm pump may not be as much of a problem.

I’ve tried CBD before and after riding a handful of times. I don’t feel it made any difference with my body but I will say I had a toothache about a month ago and took some, it seemed to help enough for me to go to sleep.

I'm neither pro nor con. If it works for you cool.

However, if you are subject to drug testing, avoid it. CBD has been found to be Not 100% THC free in some cases. Oh it may have nothing more than trace amounts of THC, but used enough, it can be enough to trigger a positive just as if you were smoking a fat one.

There are court cases pending against CBD suppliers who claimed to be 100% THC free. Jobs lost after finding this wasn't completely true.

Any peer reviewed scientific literature out there on the effectiveness of over-the-counter CBD? Looking for something specifically using some of these brands like CBD-MD.. honest question, not just stirring shit

Something from an academic journal, not just a blog or news article

Just another supplement. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Definitely helps. Helped the swelling in my knee at the beginning of the year, and is helping my shoulder that I just injured a week ago. If you actually broke/tore something obviously it’s not going to magically heal you but for more minor injuries there is definitely a noticeable difference than when I don’t take it...people claiming it’s snake oil are like a kid who just spent 3000 in mods on his bike then complains that he didn’t win the very next race...takes time, is not a “miracle healer”, but definitely helps.

What this guy said.

There's zero science backing anything other than it working on epilepsy (together with normal epilepsy medicine).

any extra enhancement or drug needs to be used with extreme caution due to heart rate increase from adrenaline, personally i try to not even put allergy medicine in my body when i ride or if im supposed to ride soon. the risk just isnt worth it to me.

Im not an expert on reading this stuff.. but it looks like CBD significantly reduces anxiety when compared to placebo. Also, a quick google search brought up many scientific studies of CBD.

Here
Thanks for posting that, I've had enough science this week, but when I get a chance, I'll take a proper look.

A quick scan is interesting, 400mg the dose so that gives a point of reference...

The biggest issue we all have is knowing what you are getting. John Oliver did a very good show on supplements. It's a shit show of an industry

Here
Thanks for the link.

Some impressions:

-Low n size: only 10 participants which is very low for any experiment
-The participants were diagnosed with social anxiety disorder meaning they are already experiencing more anxiety than the average person, so, we still do not know how CBD influences anxiety in an average person. Plus, social anxiety is very different than regular, generalized anxiety
-Most important, they were given 400mg of 99.9% pure CBD, which does not seem to be the type of product sold OTC.
-No control group

Nice to see work being done on this topic way back in 2010.
