For the sheer sake of discussion...what chance do you guys think Marvin Musquin has of winning a SX Championship before he retires...or has the ship sailed?

Quite a few people will probably rip on the guy for always being a bridesmaid but as long as he keeps doing what he’s doing he will always have a good chance of winning. I don’t think the ship has sailed but that window is closing for sure. I guess to actually answer the question, I think he will, and I hope I’m right about that. Hard guy not to like.

Consistency wins championships.

He had more podiums this season than anyone but Webb (Webb had 1 more). Finished 11pts behind Tomac and 29 behind Webb. I think he has a great shot.

Depending also on the injury he sustained today

He has a great shot because he's a top contender. Marvin has shown (at certain times) that he's the fastest guy on the day. He just needs that type speed consistently.

As good a chance as anyone in this field.

Weird thing with Marvin – when he gets mad or tries harder it's like he seems to go slower. Daytona and Dallas (I think – where did Webb rough him up?) come to mind.

He needs to get starts and ride his smooth self but not get pushed around.

In fact, everyone has to beat Webb off the start, because the little fucker isn't the quickest, but he's the best at passing back and maybe one of the best at getting it done/rising too the moment of the current guys. He's old school gamer type like Langston.

I still think of him as a threat. Hope he is not injured.

I know what you're trying to say but a 2x World Champ isn't always a bridesmaid.

If he can stay consistent and uninjured in SX next year, he has a damn good shot. He's faster than Webb, and on the same level as Tomac and Roczen when he's on, and doesn't usually seem to have their weird horrible luck at times. If his injury didn't derail him in 2018, he would have owned that series

Tomac, Roczen, or Musqin might win a SX title before they retire. Doubtful two of them do and not a chance in hell all three will. It's also possible that ship has sailed for all three.

Fully agree and in no way meant to discredit. I mean specifically Supercross. Even on that front, there are plenty of guys who cannot say they have a Supercross title, regional or not. Marvin is a Champion, no matter the discipline, class, or country.

I think it will be tougher next year. New kids on the block, plus all the others probably doing well. He's so good, but just a touch shy.

Should have added Roczen to the question.

I picked him to win the last two years and still think he has a shot unless another guy puts it all together like Webb did this year and Anderson did last year. Other than that I would say Kroc is my pick next year. Cool but still think Marvin can win it if he starts out strong.

There's no telling who's going to fall by the wayside during any season but Marv still has what it takes to win an SX championship.

The only thing he's been missing is a dash of luck.

Considering the SX season this year has been over since May, I agree.

If your opinion is based on previous stats, neither for Tomac or Roczen ; we all know Tomac or Roczen can win championships, so maybe you need to look at stats a bit deeper.

He was a contender all year short of the start crashes, mid-race mental errors and the dumb incident with the red cross flag. He had the speed. I would assume that he'll show it again this year. Also, some racers peak at different times in their career than others. Hopefully Marv will mature past some of these issues to be consistent enough to win the championship.

This SX season was his best chance of winning a title. I actually think he would've won it without the knee problem and if he wouldn't have been that nice to Cooper Webb in a few situations on the track.

I think 17 MX was his to win, No Roczen, Dungey retired, Tomac was inconsistent and had a bike problem and Bagget was hurt after Red Bud plus Anderson was knocked out early. Without the tweaked knee I think he wins. Ifs and buts though.
