Just had my 2nd one short out......

This time during a moto this weekend at Red Bud’s Vet Fest.

I have tried everything. On this last one, I took it apart new and conformal coated the circuit board, and sealed the enclosure with silicone.

Has anyone converted the ‘smart’ killswitch to a conventional dummy one? Or know how? I’m complete fine not having launch control or map options.

Yeah...can’t believe Honda hasn’t resolved this yet. Everyone I know that has a 17-19 has had this problem. Just waiting for it to happen to me...

I know my riding buddies has done the silicon trick like you mentioned above and they haven’t had any further issues.

I have gone through two! I had sealed the second and taken great care of it and it still failed out of the blue at the track. I carry a spare now. It can't be too difficult for the Honda to correct.

I’m going to retrofit a older style. If someone has the info on how to do it I would greatly appreciate any help. If not..... I’ll document and post a “how to”.

gee i must be lucky, never had an issue, I do keep the pressure washer away from it though....

They're very susceptible to water penetration and shorting out. Race teams cover them when washing and regularly replace. One of Honda's off-road teams had a few go this year as well.

Here is the fix.

The black wire with a white stripe is labeled “ENG” and has around 10V while the engine is running.

The dark green wire is labeled “OV” and has 0V while the engine is running.

Looking at the Printed Circuit Board ( PCB ) - the “EG STOP SW” or kill button has a direct path from the black/white wire to the green wire:






I tested a jumper wire from the black/white to green wires, and the bike stalled.



I will be eliminating the stock killswitch and wiring the black/white and dark green wires to one of these:

For what its worth i really like the newer hondas. The way brands are perceived and bad mouthed same as certain riders bugs me while others catch flack undeservedly. Honda can do no wrong in most people's eyes.

A friend of mine ran the stock one under the seat, and then he used the two wires needed for a kill switch on an older style like you’re doing.

All you gotta do is order a bottle of conformal coating off amazon and cover the circuit board in it so it doesn't short out anymore. Honda probably should have done that off the hop but didn't think about water egress from power washing.

Are you completely deleting the stock unit for a new switch ? or retaining the map functions with the stock unit and the kill switch routed to a new button.

Completely deleting it. Terminated the other 4 wires back under the front plate.

I’m over it. I have a Vortex X10 with one and only map I run - and do not like the launch control. I used my LitPro and did some both ways..... and was consistently quicker without it.

Take a condom....cut it......Pull it over the kill sweitch.....zip tie both ends.....change this out every couple of washes (you can also use a latex glove or balloon but that’s not any fun).
