Replace timing chains often. They stretch. Cheap part and easy to replace with some basic knowledge and tools.A worn chain besides increasing the likelyhood of snapping will wear your timimg gears also, and one of those gears is part of your crank assembly.

I worked in Parts and Accessories at RideNow Powersports and I can tell you we had employees with the same issue and Yamaha didn’t warranty their stuff either. Ordered lots of parts for 2018 and 2019 YZ 250’s, 250F’s and 450F’s. More than any other brand and we sell them all. I know I’ll never buy another Yamaha based off their crappy customer service. Of all 6 brands, Honda and Suzuki have the best customer service and warranty departments. Just my 2 cents.

Stories suck to hear just made the switch to Yamaha and love my 18, was on a 17 Honda before that and broke at 52hrs. Hoping the Yamaha is reliable my 09 kx450 went 100hrs before a rebuild

Yeah I never did that, I just change it every couple rides like every other bike I've had. Also I heard back from Yamaha and they will help on parts to bring the total down to a measly 4500 bucks, probably going that route unless anybody wants a roller for a yz500af project...
I am ignorant of the changes between the 2018 and 2019 engines (I think they are minor), but, there are multiple new take-off 2018 engines on eBay for less than that.

As some one mentioned previously if you have a good relationship with your dealer with a good service manager then be polite and see if they will go to bat for you with Yamaha. If you don't have a relationship go direct. Always be polite and respectful as this will help in the process. There are no guarantees but in 20 some years at a Yamaha shop I was able to get Yamaha to cover the parts on "Good Will" for numerous situations. Just make sure the list of parts is complete if they offer to cover them. Good Luck !!!

Sounds like Yamaha moved production to China and forgot to tell us! Having owned a dozen Yamaha's beginning in 98, it is a shock to hear of all these issues with them, I never had one problem.

Except the water pump impeller deciding to snap or shift stopper ball bearings letting loose in your crankcase.

Yep, I remember having to swap those wonderful parts out, and the chain circlip. Then my 15 was a pray and hope its not a part of the crank failures/recalls. Though I will say, all of my Yamaha's were pretty damn reliable, but I'm a slow weekend warrior.

14 I replaced the parts myself and purchased myself, the impeller and shift stopper were never an official recall just updated parts. Sold that bike with 80 hours no issues. 15 sold at 63 hours no issues but heard of people having Yamaha cover the crank letting go since they knew it was an issue. I still think they are a solid company and bike. Never had an issue with my 16 250f or 125 and both had 100+ hours before I sold them. Only put 12 hours on my 19 before I hung my boots up for now.

I’ve got 58 hours on my Honda 450 19 since May. I do oil and filter every 10 hours and all i ride is sand pits so she gets beat up. 34 hours is nothing.

Couple things to point out. As someone that has been and is a tech for Yamaha at a dealer, Yamaha will want detailed pictures of the overall condition of the bike, detailed pictures of the failure. Not saying you don't maintain the bike but if it was you that worked on it and never met the owner its hard to say if it was maintained from appearance. Yamaha will cover just about anything if it is filed correctly and accurately. The bikes with the correct maintenance will go without any issues. I have a 19 250F and 19 450F. They get beat on hard and no issues what so ever, but maintenance is done by the book. Not saying bikes don't have issues. I have had forks come apart and frames crack, also had a bad valve seats from factory that Yamaha covered no questions asked but they needed the parts back to further inspect.

Also Yamaha doesn't have create motors just lying around. At the end of the production run they set aside maybe a dozen motors, for warranty cases that qualify for them (cases damaged, cylinder damaged and the head damaged, must be all 3 to qualify) most engines will be assembled by the dealer. We at the dealer just assembled a 2020 YZF450 ATV engine from scratch that had grenade on the PDI test ride before the customer even received the unit. They didn't finish the production run so they didn't have any lying around for us to use. Every single thing other then the trans was replaced.

Yamaha stands behind their products very well but it needs to be justified and the customer that has a good relationship with the dealer does help.

Yamaha typically doesn't warranty wear items, such as clutches and brake pads etc.. Starter clutches are wear items, however they have been intermittently covering them.

Watch for the decompressor to break, 52hrs oil 4hrs and oil filter ever other oil change. My buddies 18 crf oil pump went out at 20hrs. This stuff happens to any bike sometimes it’s the luck of the draw.

About 4 horsepower. If you want to win the shootouts, you've got to make the sauce.

34 hours is a well used bike. I dont see any reason why they should help you at that point. I could see less than 5 hours. 34? No, Id expect any brand to tell you that youre on your own at that point. Its a race machine, not a washing machine.

Blows my mind that a company wouldn't hook it up on parts (and even a discounted shop rate) in a situation like this. Eating the cost on some parts, which would cost the customer thousands, would go a long ways at making them want to keep buying $10k machines. A lifetime customer in a niche market for a few hundred bucks seems like a no brainer, especially considering there are many equal or better options.

Totally off topic, but is that how you permanently store the truck and car in the back? How is it working out for protection of the elements? I'm trying to figure out what to do with my '70 Camaro and was leaning towards a shipping container.

I'd look more so for a cheap enclosed car trailer. that way its mobile if you need to move it. We looked at a container to store a 72 Cuda but found that the car trailer was a much better option.

I think that would be ideal in a residential setting but I'm on 2 acres and would never really need for it to be moved.

we are on 3.5 acres and its still nice to be able to move it. The trailer was cheaper than what we could find a container for.
