I'm going to take a random stab here and guess money is the main root of this in some form or fashion. Either Dean wasn't getting paid enough or now that AP is back, they can't payroll him.

Barcia and Plessinger probably aren't cheap.
They aren’t cheap.

They also are getting paid regardless of showing up or not. Most contracts have a clause that requires them to make x amount of races to get full salary. Below that there’s a subtraction from salary, but bonuses are still available for any race they show up to. Seely took a financial hit, most likely, to pull out of the series.

Aaron’s absence could’ve saved the team...if I’m shooting from the hip...25-50k in salary paid. I don’t know the details of his contract so take that how one may wish and I am submitting this with some bro-science involved.

Question is: did Dean max out the teams allotted budget for his addition to the team? (By no fault of his own) And did Yamaha renege on terms? Contracts don’t mean shit in motocross. Especially when you’re a bloke from an island VS. a multinational conglomerate..

When was the last time any rider on a Yamaha (in the premier class) was a serious title contender? Stew?

Well....I hope thats not the end of his American Aspirations..but it probably will be.
Im sure that dragging the missus and kids around and probably making no money has got a lot to do with it.
If he had been a consistent top three finisher , he might have made enough in prize money and possibly bonuses to be able to afford to rent a house near one of the training facilities, leave the family at home when he flew away to race ,then come home through the week to practice and train and be with family.
What he's been doing is really a single man's gig...

In reality, he will probably never achieve his dream of winning a US national championship because you really need a full factory ride to do it...have a home based training facility, practice mechanic etc...and in the US, you cant really do that without strong supercross results.
The teams dont seem to have the budgets to employ a motocross only rider and support him well enough for the rider to make it viable.
He gave it a good shot, but It seems it was all really just on a wing and a prayer..
I really admire Dean, a real stand up guy and a great Australian champion

This is disappointing.

With Dean RIGHT BEHIND Justin in the points, you'd think they'd find the budget to keep him here.

Was bad timing this year with almost all of the top guys healthy. If this was a normal year with more big dogs hurt he would in the hunt for a top 5. I think he did pretty good. You can’t expect him to go after the top 6 guys. Unreasonable, he is beating Bagget who on paper should be beating Dean but is not. 8th in this field is pretty damn good.

Fuck I’m with you.... obviously they were going to pay him shit and treat him like a goffer ... love to hear an honest opinion of Reedy’s on that team’s management.. I’m putting it out there that Craig Dacks ol cdr team has got that team covered!
Maybe Ferris iwas getting paid shit to drag his family around with no home base.
Better off coming back to Australia and earning a solid middle class income with a nice house and nice school for his children ..

I think there a lot of lessons for a lot of young Aussie mx riders. Follow Reeds path and become an SX superstar or you have fuck all chance of making it in the US long term ..

So what old hand at Yamaha seems to be the problem with not allowing riders to have more setup options? McCarty?

If you need to work to pay bills you’re lower class, I learnt that the hard way living in England. Telling the guys I worked with in London that we were middle class was the most offensive thing I ever said to them. Thought the lot of them were going to lynch me for a second, haha. We were making £90,000 a year....

Breaking news out of the USA – Dean Ferris has parted ways with the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team. PR from the team below.

With Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team’s Aaron Plessinger returning to full fitness, the team and replacement rider Dean Ferris have come to a mutual agreement to part ways for the remainder of this season. The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing Team will contest the rest of the 2019 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship with its original two-man team of Justin Barcia and Plessinger, and would like to thank Dean for his very respectable results supporting the team while Plessinger was out with injury.

So a fully fit Aaron Plessinger manages only 18-16 moto results and Yamaha decide to part ways with the guy who is giving their other factory rider Barcia a run for his money in the championship? Yeah that makes sense.

The Yamaha press release goes on to say that Ferris is returning home, is that by choice or are there no teams that want a quality rider to compete for them?

I was at the High Point National and met Dean and his wife in the pits before the race. I later saw his wife watching the race in the section I was in carrying around 2 little ones. As a parent of young children I can't help but imagine the toll of traveling around a foreign country with 2 little ones can be. I commend Dean for giving it a shot but with no stability it has to be hard for a young family like his to keep going even if Yamaha offered support. Nonetheless Dean did a great job considering the circumstances. Dean gained a fan in me this year in the sacrifices he made to get over here and put in consistent results.
You're right, its a huge commitment that goes further than Dean being unhappy on the bike.
There the family to think of, them being aw from the grandparents, his wife being away from friends and the stress of hauling 2 young kids around.
I'm just so disappointed for him that he turned down a solid contract here to give it a go but at least he has tried, he ran with America's best and its time to move on.

BUGGER! well that confirms his plans then to.
I was hoping he would find something to finish the series but its game over.

I've heard all the stories about how expensive it is to add a rider, but in modern SX/MX it seems to me if you want to have 2 bikes on the track you probably need to have 3 riders on your 450 team. I'm surprised that Yamaha can't find a way to support Ferris enough to keep him going.

As to the bike, let's not hang on that as an excuse. Surely between the resources of Yamaha and KYB they can get him 95% happy. I'm so tired of hearing about setup excuses. Get the bike close, then you adapt to it. Reed was on DMXS this week, talking about how surprised he was at Roczen riding so well early in the series when he thought his bike was looking like crap. But Ken can adapt. Sorry for the drift here, but honestly the setup thing is such a weak-ass story these days.
I somewhat agree about the bike excuse but you could argue that he was adapting (as best he could).. Bugger all track time for 'testing' at the races and all that, think about it, 30 minutes of 'practice' where you've gotta be putting down sprint times especially in the first 15 minute session when the track is it's smoothest, then boom take on some of the worlds best on tracks they've ridden for years (on a bike he wasn't comfortable on/hated).. Also Ken has many more reasons to keep going (on a bike he may not be comfortable on) and Dean has many more reasons to say 'fuck this noise, I'm out' haha

I wouldn't say the bike is the only reason he's comin home but I'd say 'and the bike' finishes the list.. Knowing he's now the 3rd person Yamaha will talk to at the races

Based on how much he has bounced around, I don’t think Yamaha is the problem

Wouldn't make much sense on his part, I think the Australian series and Canadian series are pretty comparable in terms of talent, exposure and prestige.

Bullshit
Been with Yamaha in Australia for 3 years
Had an offer with JGR which fell through (He was ready to go before they were)
Took a fill in with Yamaha in Europe
Took a one race opportunity to ride a KTM in Aus to get some gate drops
Took Yamaha ride in the US

Horse shit !
There were some good tracks coming up for him as well. Who pulled the plug on the deal. No way it was Dean- it’s another 6 weeks or so, just suck it up and get through it! Doesn’t make sense that he would quit.. must be Yamaha- Dogs ! You got a guy running top 10 in the series and can’t back him up! Barcia or Pless could be on the bench again next week given their history and it’s a stretch for Pless to make the top 10 honestly.
I’ll never buy a Yamaha now! Not for me, not for my sons. Eat a dik you POS ! #ShtCru
All the best Dean- Good luck, you deserved a shot at this series!

Yeah fair enough on your points above, I wasn't really considering he's hitting most of the tracks for the first time. I think I am just growing weary of riders always blaming the bike setup. Every bloody resource under the sun, and when they get the bike pretty close most of the current gen riders continue to mess with it just a bit more. Then it totally becomes a crutch. If you feel bad in the first 10 min of a moto, boom, the setup is off. When in reality the setup is probably OK and you just need to focus on executing, finding the lines, and not thinking about whether you need to tweak the high-speed compression a bit more.

I would think he also got a ride offer to do the Aus SX series which is only a couple of months away and decided to cut his losses and come home to a paycheck
