You better send sand guys, not the quickest guys around those groomed silky smooth tracks of yours. NL is dealing with injuries now, but they can now put more focus on being at the top of their game at Assen. Herlings, Coldenhoff and Vlaanderen are going to kill it at MXoN. Just sayin’.
Apparently you missed last weekends national at WW.

Anymore genius predictions?
Harry sorry man but you better listen to this guy. WW was hot, humid and gnarled but you ain’t getting to sit down for a rest at Assen. If Roger picks three guys that is gonna spend two weeks prepping in bottomless sand and not a leveler in sight then USA has a chance. If they could come and win in Lommel in the 81 with 3 sand guys and not your top riders then they can do it again. Podium and a bit of pride is restored at least.

Riders dont race a season on 450s and then just race a 250 for a race. No matter how good Zach is on a 250 he won’t drop down for a weekend and race one. He needs time on the bike to make that kind of decision. Also didn’t Zach race for Puerto Rico? That may hurt his eligibility. We need a racer who’s conditioned for the bike he will be racing, we also need guys who WANT to race upfront. I would be fine with a guy like Zach and Cooper cause they can mentally overcome being a bit slower in practice and race upfront and FIGHT! A guy like tomac could be either or which is a worry. Anderson is another guy who will fight till his hands are bloody and broken. We need those guys if we’re going up against a bunch of hungry euros at assen!

1. Zach raced for USA two years ago.
2. People drop down or go up in bike size all the time in MXoN without much issue. Webb raced on a 450 in France, Covington a 450 in Britain. Van Horebeek won the mx2 class in France, I can go on and on.
3. It would be silly not to send Tomac if he wants to go. He's just that dominant. Last year he was by far the best American on the team.
Riders have gone up to a 450 when did an America 450 rider drop down to a 250? I think it a diff transition to go back to a 250 and harder. I agree with Jeff

Perfect world:

Tomac, Anderson, Zacho on a 250.

Real world:

Kawasaki is saying they don't plan to support the MXoN. This could all change if Monster forces them to go. If not, then neither Tomac or AC are going. I wouldn't take AC anyway, on the Pulp Show his coach Nick Wey even says sand is AC's weakness. So let's assume no green bikes. Now realistically the list of candidates is Anderson, Webb, Zacho, Barcia and Justin Cooper. Since DeCoster later seems to favour taking a 250 guy instead of a 450 guy dropping down that puts Justin Cooper in there. Then I think you have to take Anderson and Osborne, though Barcia is a proven MXoN performer, but he's said his one wrist will need surgery and IMO now way he delays that by 6 weeks to ride MXoN. So the team realistically is Anderson, Osborne, Justin Cooper. Not bad, but I'd be a bit worried about Cooper and the pressure cooker of MXoN.

My world:

I've said elsewhere, a good team would be a combo of Anderson, Osborne, Webb with one of Zacho or Coop dropping down to the 250. All 3 have raced MXoN, all 3 ride for Austria which might make the team more cohesive and would certainly improve logistics, and all 3 train together. I think either Zacho or Coop could race MX2 and be the 2nd best rider behind Prado with a couple of weeks on the bike, although I'm probably discrediting Jago Geerts and Hunter Lawrence with that statement.

Cooper is a ripper and could pull a holeshot against 450's. Kids got a badass trigger finger. Send him

My preference would be Zach, Webb and Anderson with Zach or Webb running the 250. Main reasons for my selection are:

1. All three have expressed a strong desire to represent USA in MXDN.
2. There seems to be some reluctance from the Kawi team to participate. This effectively eliminates Tomac and AC.
3. If we have to send a 250 rider, I’d go with Justin over AC simply because he likes sand more than AC.
4. Tomac while probably our best 450 rider, causes me some concern as he occasionally has those days you simply can’t explain and this is a 1 day event. If it was MXDN series, he’d be my first choice.
5. None of my top 3 proposed riders are Monster athletes and hence would not have the same pressure that Monster Athletes have to focus on the Monster cup event.

Since I am wishing here, let me add I’d like to see the riders go about 3 weeks early to prepare and focus on the event. I think some of these 3 have expressed a willingness to do so.

Shit yeah, I totally overlooked Ferrandis. Even Vlaanderen on his day could be pretty good. Still I like either Webb or Osborne on a 250 to be competitive and not fold up under the pressure.

Furthermore, the reason I like the Anderson, Osborne, Webb team is that all 3 guys kind of race with that "chip on their shoulder" attitude. Pass me, I'm passing you back next corner 'bro. I think that is why Barcia has always done well at MXoN relative to say Dungey or Tomac who were both in their own heads a bit too much.

So other than a bike problem when was the last time Tomac had a “bad day” at a MX race? He dominated last years nationals. Lots of people must have much better memories than me I mean I guess you could say last year at mxon but he was still our best. And by the looks of the results lately, he is still without question our best. The team with AP7 and bambam last year was solid, but still a B team when you think about Anderson not being there.

And people doubting Justin Cooper are crazy. Like him or not that dude is legit and would bring it at MXoN.

Haha alright, you have a point with the rutted tracks, I can’t watch them from NL. My point was just that you have to send the best sand riders. You can’t compare Assen to any US track. It’s gonna get rough, and there’s a lot of GP guys gonna be ready to kill it. NL and Belgium up front.

AC has nothing to do on a sand track like Assen, he is a hard packed rider. Let's see who does well but I would take Justin Cooper over any other current 250 rider. Starts are 50% of the mxon.

Justin Cooper, Zacho, Tomac. If Tomac or Zacho can't go you send Anderson. Webb and Bagget is next on the list.

Have you seen Baggett ride in the sand?

Thats a no.

A team: Tomac Anderson and Cooper or Sexton.

If Tomac cant go most likely the same team with Zacho.

Barcia is the best sand rider we have besides Tomac. I know he doesn't seem up to speed quite yet but let's wait and see what he does at Southwick, Red Bud and Millville.

First off, whoever is asked has to agree to stay on the bike, riding 2 or 3 times a week for the month between the end of our outdoors and the Mxdn.

My picks. Tomac, the revenge factor. Zach he's riding good and knows the European ways.
And Cooper from the 250s.

As far as the manager. Roger brings a ton of stuff nobody else can.
I mean, who else can pick up the phone and dial the FIM and they actually take the call?

That being said, it would be cool if he took a younger guy as a kind of assistant manager.
Someone he could introduce to the powers over there, and give some pointers on what's up.
Plan for the future.

Either way, no harm if we don't win imo.
Main thing is to show up, and give it our best shot.

AC from New Smyrna Beach, FL is a hardpack rider who doesn't know sand? That seems unlikely.

As it is on a sand track i would send:

250: Justin Cooper = I love AC but he admitted himself (and Nick Wey too) he is better on hard ground than on deep sand. Moreover i think the star racing has a stronger motor for the sand tracks. With his amazing starts the kid (J cooper) could do really well at Assen.

450: E.Tomac = Of course IF he wanna go and IF he is motivated by the revenge ! Otherwise i would send Zach Osborne.

Open: J.Anderson = People argue between him and Osborne but i do think this year Anderson is faster on the 450 than Osborne. Moreover he is hungry of winning the Mxon and want to be back in the team so bad after what happened in 2016 !

Concerning France for now i would send:

250: Ferrandis
450: Musquin
Open: Febvre

If the USA doesn’t win then I hope France wins again. They have a dynasty going in MXdN.

Tomac is an interesting discussion. To answer your question, Moto 1 of WW Ranch. While not really a bad day, he way under performed in the first moto. The thing odd is that he dominated Moto 2. This was apparently tied to bike setup in moto 1. His occasional bad motos have been acknowledged to be setup related. Apparently if he is not feeling it then he doesn't push it. With the odds of having a less than perfectly setup bike at Assen, you have to question if he is the best choice. In my opinion, MXDN is a "MoneyBall" type of event where you have to favor the riders that statistically will perform best in each moto for the one day event. This may be Tomac, I'm not a statistician, I just throw my concerns out for discussion.

As for last year's MXDN, I frankly put a lot of Tomac's performance on the fact that he was running the new Kawi with very little prep time on the bike and what prep time they did have was most probably related to getting the bike ready for Monster Cup. I don't know how else to explain his not being closer to Coldenhoff and Herlings.

Tomac is our best guy, so he needs to be on the team if at all possible. Webb has proven in past mxon to be a brawler who steps up. He's also an awesome starter who could very well holeshot at least one moto if not both. Anderson is a brawler too and has proven himself at mxon in 2016. Any two of those three on 450s would be good. Having those three with Webb on the 250 is the best scenerio in my opinion.
Zach on the 250 would be good as well. I just like Webb better on it. AC is heavy and I worry he would get lousy starts. I'd rather see a Yamaha or KTM/Husky be the 250. I just think they are faster. Maybe Justin Cooper would be a good choice. Southwick will tell us a little more at least

The one day event does lead to some weird results. How do you explain Coldenhoff who generally runs around 8th to 12th in MXGP dominating both his motos? I can't remember if he even had a podium last year, maybe one or two. Track conditions were good for him, but still. He beat all the same Euro guys that just finished smoking him all season. If I was KTM I would be happy but kind of pissed at the same time. Come on dude, where was this speed and intensity all season??? Were you just mailing it in?

If Tomacs does not go then send that Americans that really want to be there: Anderson, Osborne, and the fastest 250 guy who is pumped for the opportunity. I doubt Barcias wrist is healthy enough if he is waiting on surgery. I think Justin Cooper would be fine because even if he is a little untested he definitely has a chip on his shoulder and is aggressive.

The thing about last years race was that because of the track conditions if a guy like Coldenhoff could mange to grab a holeshot he could pin it all moto and win. There was nothing technical about that race. It was strictly a "survivor" fest.

Tomac, Anderson, and Osborne have all proven to be clearly better than Webb to this point. I don't see any 450 guy dropping down and doing better than J. Cooper on his Star Yamaha. Cooper is a great starter and little so I'd give him the nod over AC for this event.

Looking back at last year’s results wasn’t Webb like 8th both motos at the Wick?
Yes but you have to consider that was his first outdoor race after recovering from his injury. I think he's much better than that, but this weekend will tell the tale. I know that his last year on 250s (2016), he was dominant at Southwick, and had lap times 2-3 seconds quicker than anyone else. He was phenomenal that day and on that bike. I don't think last year's results are a good indicator since it was the first race back from injury and on the Yamaha. Again..this weekend will tell a lot more.

I’m still shell shocked from the complete ass kicking that we got last year, on our signature USA track. if we put in the same effort, with fancy factory trucks scattered throughout the pits and no unity on the team, expect the same results. Prove me wrong, USA riders.

Except that it wasn't "our" signature USA track at all. I've been to damn near every race ever held there and the conditions, the soil and the layout were totally foreign to me. It was surreal.

Tomac has said more than once he wants redemption. A sand track is probably his best chance to get that done.

Plus, this year JH may not be 100%.

We’re you there? I went... it was nothing like Red Bud. They had so much sand added and with all the rain, it was a slosh unlike anything we ever race on. Yes, same for everyone, but we came prepared for something much different. And thus, vastly under performed. Tomac DNF in his quali and AP7 cross rut while running up front changed our quali from top 2 to way back... gate pick and starts were way more important than typical. But the one off format of MXoN gives you that sometimes.

No matter who goes, the US will be a podium threat at minimum.

Has to be Tomac, Zacho and AC or Cooper on the 250.

Better would be Tomac, Anderson and Zacho on the 250 but that probably won't fly.

Tomac will go.
