Will we see the Pro Circuit team running KYB though?

I see they finally cut out the right side air box. Wondering if I should do the same to my 18.

I did on mine, not really noticeable but makes me feel better. 😂

I race woods and mostly rode moto, never had an issue with the kickstart. I can easily be top 5-7 off the start against the e-start bikes. One of my favorite things about my kawi is for some reason it starts easily in gear, now 1.5hrs into the race, my opinion may change. Still not a deal breaker though.

I’m sure they had to open it back up because they are running a larger piston and larger valves in this new configuration So they need more air to feed the larger components. This motor design with the larger piston, shorter stroke and big valves should make much better high RPM HP than the previous design, but at the trade off of bottom. I’m willing to bet the older design (2017-2019) will be more lively and “torquey” off the low end than the 20. But it should scream up top, which some would argue that’s what a 250F should do. Its give and take and this design lends to top vs bottom Like KTM or the Honda design.

Motor sounds like a screamer. Big fan of the KYB move too. Ugly as hell though.

Put some backgrounds on it and it will look fine. Most people swap out the white number plates right away anyhow.

Bike doesn't need electric start. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not on next years model either.

E-start is huge negative in my book. I'll buy one if I find out it's the last year for a kicker.

If I was racing pro AMA motocross, or hare scrambles yes I would want a e-start. Being I ride for fun.... like 75% of the other buyers, I want a kicker.

Thanks for the explanation. So you're saying I shouldn't cut out my right airbox on my 18?

By the way, if it runs higher rpm, can an aftermarket exhaust system balance the power curve and add more bottom to it (or a map)?

A pipe will more than likely help mid-top as that will more than likely flow more air. But of course that is dependent on the aftermarket pipe designers goal. When you are pushing a lot of air with a certain component package it’s usually a trade off for low end torque to gain high end HP. Consequently if you have a tractor type low end stump puller type power band (smaller piston, smaller valves, tighter combustion chamber, smaller throttle body, faster closing cam profiles) then you’ll have a softer top end, it’s the way it is. It’s always a trade off. We don’t know how this bike is yet, it may be the perfect powerband for a 250 ripper, I’m just pointing out simply by the configuration we know on paper it should resemble the KTM 250 powerband or the Honda with being stronger on top with a chance of losing low end from the current configuration. As a result, that might be totally fine given how it performs on the track and it could be an “improvement.” We’ll see when the guys get to ride em.

There are three kind of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics.

And those look like particularly dodgy statistics. If 3/4 people who buy motocross bikes want kick starts, why isn't the paddock at every track full of luddites on Kawasakis and Suzukis?

I mostly mean that big green line of plastic under the seat.

Anyone who buys this bike should have Enzo do the suspension. I think that’s the closest you can get to A kit stuff for a reasonable price.

Once you've had e-start... VERY hard to go back to kicking a bike. It makes life much nicer.. especially out on the trails!

As if that happens every other week... cars and street bikes are estart and how often do they fail? Im sure your car is a crank to start too......

you are correct, it doesn't happen often, but it will happen at the worst time. I've had it happen to my street vehicles in the middle of nowhere also. Not fun, but do I want to have a manual crank on a V8 engine? No... a single cylinder motorcycle? debatable.

Don’t you ride an ‘09 KX450? Do you own an e-start bike?

I’m curious on the klx300r. I’m currently racing harescramble on a kx250f with out e start it’s miserable. Everyone I race has it. And our races are dead engine start. I’m last out the gate every time.

Is this thing a strike at competing in off road racing or just another trail bike for a weekend warrior?
Definitely not a strike at competing in off-road racing but rather a trail style bike for a full-sized adult to ride. I definitely like it and I feel that the bike could be a great bike for your purposes as well as getting the whole family kitted on bikes without having to go the motocrosser route.

Doubt we will see that bike in the XC1 ever. But I'm stoked to see Kawi getting back into the trails segment and taking it seriously. That bike does look fun!

The stock green coupler would handle it fine. When I had my 2016 KX250f I liked the white coupler for all situations and I never got any overly lean conditions while running it so either one should be fine.

I have to think that you're being sarcastic or that i'm misreading what you've written? The KYB fork thats going on the new 250f is no where near the level showa fork that PC team runs.... They are on the newest fork most likely with 27mm mid valve.... current works stuff. This KYB fork is still 4mm smaller than the current works or production 49mm showa main comp.

The current 2019 showa 49mm spring fork on the 450 is a superior fork internally as well. They've always had the 250F on one brand and the 450 on the other - probably to keep pricing in check between vendors.

This KYB fork is the same one that has been on yamaha since 2006 from the looks of it. A great fork, but not as good as the production 19 showa units or the works parts PC runs.

Pretty sure he was asking if we'd see PC on some factory or kit kyb stuff. We are all aware they aren't going to run the production components.

Both the 250 and 450 have been on showa for a few years now, just the sff junk that was on the 250f was atrocious so reguardless this is an exciting change.

It also says in the PR that this is the latest gen kyb with a 25mm mid Piston, so only 2mm different.
