Yeah 388 was a rebel.

But a lot of what he did was asshole.

Asshole not equate with cool.

McQueen was the king of cool no doubt. Met him when I was 11 out n the Palm Springs desert while on my Yamaha mini enduro. Can still picture him sitting on his Husky having a smoke and asking me how I liked my bike. His son Chad was my age and had the same mini. Back in the early 70’s the phones would start ringing (the kind you had to dial and they hung on the damn wall) and the word would get out that Steve was out riding. Anyone that answered was soon in their helmets and heading out into the nearby desert right n the middle of Palm Springs. Steve would ride and everyone would follow the best they could. He was much faster than all of us kids but he’d just play around and make sure to come back after he left everyone n the dust. He’d always stop and take the time to talk to anyone that wasn’t too awestruck to open their mouths. He did this while he had smoking hot Ali Macgraw sitting at home

I wouldn't mind getting a copy of that mag. Just to read the articles, of course.

They did those things because they WERE cool.
Jason did those things because he WANTED to be
cool. I'm guessing he even coined his own nickname. Not cool.

5 pages deep and no Guy Cooper? He made me want to have a good time on a bike

Didn't someone share a story of Pourcel the night before a supercross, seeing him at the hotel drinking a bottle of champagne with a couple hot ladies in the pool, seeing him later in the middle of the night in the sauna, more champagne, and more ladies? Then seeing him hungover in the morning wearing shades, watched him roll around all practice only to set the fastest lap the last minute then win that night? Definitely a different brand of cool.

Winston Norwood.

It looks like the Ronnie Mac character in 4th is toking on a pipe. Not saying it's cool, just funny as fuck. Different times.

Jimmy Holley and Mickey Demond by far the coolest riders of all time.

Holley, you either know or you don’t.

Mickey didn’t have a care in the world and was just so cool in the way he acted.

Neither one had an act .

Definitely! I remember a weekend race at Perris - Mickey, Tommy Lee, Heather all under the EZ-up just having a good time and talking moto.

RJ for me as all time. Johnny O. Bradshaw. Hannah.

One dude I also thought was cool was Cooper. I love the guys that retire from MX and keep racing because they love it.

Bevo cannot be forgotten. He didn't race, but man is he cool! Always smiling while strolling around with his mitt full of Scott stickers to hand out. He was frequently found in the Yami pits losing debates with Bob. I swear, McCarty was the zookeeper under that tent. 🤣

Indeed Joel Robert made motocross cool for the wide audience. He got style off the track because he was always wearing nice clothes, got always beautiful girls around him, was always riding the coolest cars and wasn't scared to drink a bit and he smoked like crazy. (What was pretty cool back then). And on the bike he was silky smooth.
