I get dislikes for saying he will
Make a race? Just needs time to adapt to a new bike - yet we allow top contendors to say the same thing months after a switch of teams?
Ml512 gets dislikes for stating facts?

I don't want to mooch off Jeff's fame, but how about some help for a privateer who qualified 15th at Hangtown and 26th at Fox on a borrowed, essentially stock, 2017 CRF450? Kid lives in south jersey and trains by himself in sand pits and is qualifying faster than guys on factory bikes with legit programs. I can only imagine he'd be much better with a good bike and a proper training program.
Or how common it is for companies to send back nearly stock suspension. Stock stuff is far better than given credit for - doesn't make it perfect...but WP, KYB, showa, and the OEMs ALL have a full "revalving department" during development and they know how to use it.
Bones said it best on his whiskey throttle show
25 percent of what you feel is suspension
75 percent is chassis
And often finding the well balanced set up is more important than anything else. Chassis balance leads to good handling and predictability - forks/shocks that work in unison work so much better than a bike with an overly stiff shock or overly stiff forks respective to the other end.
OEM's generally do a decent job of balance - although IMHO the crf and kxf are skewed towards avg weekend warriors and are a little front soft
And the KTMs are current more "pro ready" and a little rear soft
With the yzf being very balanced and neutral.
Still on stock stuff for this weekend but a big overhaul on settings...should have him some new forks and a revalved shock based on what we learned for high point.
15 mins in on Half-hour moto on that shock on a hot day and it’d fade like hell. It is not a local race day!
On a hardpack track those AER aren’t going to cut the mustard against National pros on A-kit to factory stuff!
Jeff just proved it!
Dean wilson's loretta winning kx450f was so close to stock you wouldn't believe it...
Ken roczen on his zook - bone stock being much faster (partially mental)....do we forget that?
Right now Jeff needs to qualify. So the comfort factor of 35 minutes isn't even a factor.
And on that topic - good qualifying set up would be different than 35 min set up - the tracks are way different.
He could go full A kit WP - and be within 1 second of the stock bike - I've seen it in person with a guy who has been floating around 20th this year in 250 class I do work for.
Keefer has a great podcast on WP cone vs stock
And essentially it was a stiffer shock without trax (something I think americans need to "wise up to) - no surprise for a "pro level setting" regarding being stiffer, and a little more comfort on the very top of the forks with what was also a stiffer overall setting - something a cone valve offers vs shims.
VS his KYB YZF I don't recall his exact comments - but it isn't earth shattering.
