Motorex- looking for a replacement engine oil

Edited Date/Time 4/28/2019 11:14pm
I am looking to reduce my oil change costs. I ride the super expensive Motorex (synthetic). What is your recommendation?

The "second best" if the Motorex is on the top of the world ?

Oil is all personal preference in my opinion...whatever you feel most comfortable with. Ran Mobil 1 in my last bike forever and never had any oil related issues. In my new bike I’m starting it with Amsoil (because I run Amsoil premix in my racing snowmobiles and my diesel) and haven’t had any issues yet either. As long as it’s a good name brand synthetic, running the correct viscosity recommended I’m sure you’ll be fine

Any oil rated for wet clutches Jaso MA 2. RTFM.

The best oil is clean oil. Whatever brand you like. I usually run Rotella T6 5/40, only because I have a bunch here for the trucks. And its way cheaper than "Motorcycle" Oil.

In the summer I run the T3 15/40 Dino oil since I change it so often anyway who cares.
Hell Supertech has MC oil now with all the ratings. Probably going to start running that. It's made by WPP which is quality stuff.

There are few items in this world that will give you sticker shock more than Motorex oil.
I read oil threads but never post in them. It’s just that, it’s Rodeo Drive priced.

My old Katoom 525 likes Klotz, clutch works better.

I just switched from Motul and maxima 530mx for the same reason! I switched to Castrol Power 1 synthetic 5w40 motorcycle oil as it’s in my service manual, found it for 36 bucks for 6qts on amazon! Beats 16 a liter!

Been running this for a while now, in both my 2t& 4t, no issues at all, although it’s not as cheap as the original white bottle formula...I Sometimes go back & forth with Honda oil or spectro oil, I cannot tell any difference at all....the motorex oil is just too over priced to consider using, I change my oil every 2nd ride, which ends up being around 3 hrs run time

In all seriousness, why doesn't anyone use bel-ray anymore? I try to use it all the time in my 4's . They've supported Moto and they're the OG of bike oils. Last time I think I paid 25 for a gallon, not cheap but not horrible either. I use amsoil in the smokers cuz they're better and deserve it...

Just switched to the better t6, have been running the rotella t4 for about 25 years. Had a 1997 cbr1100xx with 200k miles on it with T4. People stop wasting your money on oil.

Liked Rotella, liked Motorex, but now I’m on the Motul 300v train. Just wow, extended my oil changes to every ten hours and the oil is nothing near worn out, clutch performance is very good, and engine noise is non existent.

Can you post your NOA and UOA for comparison? Or are you really just guessing based on appearance and have no idea?

Nope, I’m no scientist. Just a racer who prefers to spend more time riding than changing oil. Zero engine failures with any of the brands listed. Therefore, performance is key for me. Go ride.

As far as I'm concerned oil is oil, mate. As long as the oil meets the weight and specifications that the bike requires buy which ever one suits your price point and change it regularly. You shouldn't have any issues.

Too many blokes get caught up in brand names and colourful labels making all kinds of claims about additive packages and horse power gains, etc.

Yeah. For me, the Motorex sticker affixed to the bike had an undeniable psychological effect. That's enough. I just want to stop to pay for a good marketing.

Thank's guys. You gave to me a lot of ways to make a new cheaper choice !

Belray synthetic blend is the only oil I've ever had sludge up on me. After that I started running Rottella T-3.

Amsoil and Spectro also make a 10/60 that has lots of zinc. Shell diesel oil used to have lots of zinc but not anymore. You can thank the EPA for saving yourself from something.
Rekluse does NOT recommend the following for use with Rekluse clutch systems:

– JASO-MB oils – these are not designed for use with wet clutches
– Automotive oils – these can contain friction modifiers that negatively affect clutch performance

You run that in a 4 stroke with a single oil for engine and trans?

If separate, or a 2 stroke then by all means.

I once worked at a mobil gas station and the owner would put a quart of type f in his oil every so often at oil change time. Said it kept his engine clean. Your running it straight up in your smoker ? And how's it worked out so far? Not being a smart ass genuinely curious. Also, all you rotella guys, I've heard that she'll had wax in it's rotella oils that would leave a gunky mess, I have a few diesel trucks and I've stayed away from it because of that, true or false? I use delco 400 or whatever it's called on my 7.3's and amsoil on my 5.9's cuz they're deserving of it imo

I really hate how people in these threads jump down each others throats about having their oil scientifically tested... yes I know that's the only way to know forsure to the n'th degree how broken down the oil is, but generally, I can tell if the oil coming out looks 'clean' as in similar to the color it went into the bike as, what it smells like, and what it looks like with a bright light shined through a sample of the oil that comes out. (I drain all my oil into a ratio-rite to inspect each time). Generally I'm assuming these people who say "I ran _____ oil for 10 hours and it looks clean" I take that to mean that it hasnt broken down completely black and burnt. You would be a fool to take someones recommendation for an oil without knowing their exact bike, riding ability, and type of riding etc. These threads are merely a suggestion.

It’s worked very well no tranny or clutch problems at all over the years. I change it often and it looks fine when it comes out while changing it. We are obviously talking trans oil here, not premix.

semi off-topic, but

I use Motorex 10W-50 in my 2016 FC350, big cost jump up from the 10W-40, but 50 is what the manual says.

Would I really do that much damage by running the 10W-40 ? I oil change every 3 rides (7-8 hrs)

Post a reply to: Motorex- looking for a replacement engine oil
