I had a chunk of the rubber get torn off the side of my sg12s. These were brand new and this was my first ride with them. Wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if so did gearne do anything about it. I know it’s kind of petty but I only put an hour or 2 on them them today. Btw I don’t think I’m hard on stuff I’m a c class rider. (For anyone wondering I didn’t have grip tape on the bike and the bike is an 03 cr250)

That’s a common wear spot, but it usually takes a lot longer than that. No boot company would be able to do much for that, to be honest. Kinda like calling the graphic company when you peel the graphics up with your boot. What you do with the boots after you purchase them is really on you.... there’s no defect on that, but I can also understand your frustration

Seems unusual for it to happen that quickly but shit happens, that’s just bum luck.

Just get a new pair. They’re $18 bucks on ebay.

Mine are 7 years old and have just started doing that, that's really unlucky. Check your bike for something catching the boot

So they're the factory blemished ones guys buy for 300$ in large lots and then sell for 350, good luck getting Gaerne to do anything about a factory second they sold off cheap.

Mine did that, about 300 hours ago. Thats just a rubber wear spot glued on. Whats on the bike right there to wear in that spot?

Each bike wears boots in different spots.

I find that hard to believe. I’ve owned a dozen sets of Gearne SG12’s and they last me much longer than any A-Stars boot. Especially the newer A-Stars.

No, they are 3-4 year old boots that have been on closeout with many online retailers. Still same boot, just old color.
So where do you get the info from about the “factory blemish” boots ? There is no such thing, so that is out of the equation... when the new colorway boots come out and old colors are discontinued, they reduce the price to make room for the new ones. Kinda like car dealerships, but different.

I buy a new pair of SG12s every year and put a couple hundred hours on a pair and have never had that happen to a pair. I would be curious to see you ride and see if there is something you’re doing on the bike that may be rubbing them weirdly.

Same here. And shitty customer service for a star on Chinese garbage boots is also why I wear Gaerne now.

Buddy of mine got in some white on white a couple months ago. The white had been discolored by the packing materials. Returned the first set, they shipped a second that had the exact same issue.

This part is glued on, just like it is with astar and fox instinct. Sidi is the only boot that this rub piece is not glued on.

It wouldn't surprise me to see this same thing happen with astar and fox however would surprise me if the same thing happened on a sidi boot. This part is know as the hyper extension block for sidi which is also replaceable with 2 screws.

My sg12s did not make the season, soles wore out so bad that the boot repair guy couldn’t do anything with them. Switched to SIDI crossfire 2s and have never had an issue, just order new soles and sometimes buckles at the end of every year. This year got crossfire 3s and they are even better

It's interesting how we all get different mileage out of these boots. It's really a combination of riding style and which bike & gear we pair together.

OP probably has a frame or riding style that catches the rubber... Maybe snagged a foot peg?

You probably ride in one spot, maybe like my other buddy who rides on the arches and runs super aggressive foot-pegs. His SG-12's are in mint condition on the upper, but the soles have a big foot-peg sized bite out of the arch area.

My last pair of SG-12's are beat down on top, the toe plate is missing and the plastic part of the middle buckle is wearing through. But the soles are about 75% good. I tend to move my feet a a lot, so there's peg wear from the ball of the toe all the way back to the arch, but it's more spread out.

I wanted to try the SIDI's, they look like they're really well made, but they run narrow and guys like me with wide feet don't fit in them. Gaerne is a fairly wide fit.
