Finally some answers. Don’t have to speculate anymore. Good job Weigandt.
Sorry if this has been posted here. I looked and didn’t see it.

That interview is pointless without answering the main question: Is Eli leaving Kawasaki?

Of course nobody from the media outlets will dare to ask directly that question to any rider

From a couple answers talking being ready for next year, I'd say he is staying.

I liked what he said about the musquin situation at the finish line. He didn’t let him by like me and others were thinking. I watched again and he was right at the edge. Musquin ran him wide if Tomac jumped he probably would of hit the stand or come close.

He was pretty honest about both him and the bike the reason for his inconsistencies.

So doesn’t seem like any conspiracy or whatever just normal athlete issues.

Good read... thanks for posting.

Sounds like he has put the title out of his mind and is concentrating on being in a good spot with the bike for next year.

Yeah I got the sense that he can't wait for outdoors where we should see the typical Eli. I would be surprised to see him leave Kawi next year and I would be even more surprised if they let him go.

There are no "Media Outlets" in Dirt bike racing, only hangers- on and yes-men.

Ask a question that star racer or his parents don't like? then the team never again grants you access to their race day VIP barbecue spread...

We still don't know what was in Milsap's locker 5 years on. A real reporter would have found out. I take that back - most of them know, but won't report it.

So in other words the 2019 Kawi sucks and he cant get the feel of it. Like when Emig said the 1998 KX sucked real bad and neither him or Damon Huffman could ride it and everyone starts asking him "What's going on?" "Are you OK?"

Well, if this is all true, my speculation was way off.

Definitely glad to hear that he's still hungry and not burned out or ready to walk away.

Is the 2019 that much different than the 2018? And is the 2020 going to be different than the 2019?
Was it Tomac that had to run a different generation swing arm on his Honda to "feel right"? Or am I thinking of Reed? Maybe both.

I’m pretty sure you already know this, but the 2019 is an entirely new bike. Not surprised that he can’t find comfort. Like he said, the setup window is small. Hopefully he can find a setting that’s usable on more tracks. Some bikes lend themselves to that, some not.

I think Reed said something like, "In the old days (RC and I) would run the old bike and just pretend it was the new bike."

To me that actually makes sense. Are they not allowed to do that now? We know Eli takes a long time to get used to a bike.

No, I actually didn't know that. I hope next years model isn't an overhaul.

Should be the same until 2022 if they follow the same trend of every 3 years.

McGrath did that in 1996, and used a 93 frame until team manager Wes McCoy forced him to stop.

That was the beginning of the end for MC and Honda I think...

The aluminum frame forced him to stop because they couldn't hide it.

that was 1997. He used the steel CR 1993 and 94 frame until the the rigid alloy '97 POS was forced on him.

He switched to Suzuki in 97. From what I've read, he used the 93 frame his entire time with Honda. To the naked eye you couldn't see the difference.

I do think it was really stupid to put Eli on the 2019 for the MXON. Wish we could have seen him on the bike he just got done dominating on.

If he had any plans of leaving he wouldn’t have talked about being stressed on getting the bike better for next year. (Insert facepalm here)

Agree. But why have they not announced it yet?

...yes it was a dumb idea at face value, but did Eli have a choice in the matter?

Race a proven, developed and evolved 2018 model, or show off an almost completely different 2019 bike with limited testing hours?

Sounds like a marketing department decision to me...

The irony here is that Kawi debuted the then radically re designed KX 450 in 2015 at the Thunder Valley National, which happened to be the exact same day that Eli had that epic crash that dislocated both his shoulders while leading the second Moto (and right in front of where I was standing)...

Yes, we did learn what was in Milsap's locker. It was some kind of inhaler on the banned substances list. I can't remember if it was steroidal or not. ML has said several times on here what it was.

And now Dawson knows why he rolled the finish jump in Houston.

That question wasn't asked because no one in the know actually thinks that, just conspiracy theory speculators here.

But...... didn’t you hear? Tomac’s not trying because he wants to be fired! Some of the idiotic crap people come up with on here is amazing.

Exactly, I was just gonna post same thing saying it sounds like hes staying put in saying he's try to sort the bike out these last races so he doesn't struggle beginning of next year on it like he is now.

I don't understand why they don't just say 'I got arm pump'. All this 'feel' and 'tight' talk is weird. He even used the word 'locked up' for when Marv got him at the finish. I used to have tremendous trouble with arm pump.

Post a reply to: Good Tomac interview.
