Very much doubt that MM25 is losing sleep due to a handful of dullards on a message board that have an issue with the way in which he comports himself.

I didn’t start the thread to campaign against Marvin. Again, I have a ton of respect for him and would be a bigger fan if he’d quit giving weak excuses like he always does. Just own the things you do and don’t add asterisks after the fact.

As for those that think him being French is a problem, I’m sure there are some simpletons who have that issue. I don’t believe they are in the majority, though.

You would be clicking you heels together like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz if you won a Supercross. Could you do one?

Ok, so it’s a click-baity thread title. I DO respect Marvin’s talent and think he is one of the smoothest riders out there. I think he comes across as a genuinely nice guy, and believe that to be the case. Further, I have tremendous respect for those that leave their homes in pursuit of something greater for themselves. That being said, he is one squirmy worm when it comes to answering the tough questions, and I find it hard to like him because of that. It’s a bit ironic that Cooksey’s op-ed last week was about Marvin being so open and honest in his answers, when he has proven time and time again that he just isn’t capable of such a thing when it really matters. For the record, I couldn’t care less that homeboy is French and was yeah-no-super pumped to see Ferrandis get his win.

Whether it’s lying about letting Dungey pass him for championship points, not owning up to the aggressive pass on Tomac for a SX win, or now, denying that he saw the Red Cross flag, the guy has a problem with owning shit he does. He may give the longest-winded answers of anyone, but when pressed on things that matter, he is spineless.

Here is his IG post denying he saw the Red Cross flag. Everything I have heard thus far (podium interview and GiyB post-race interview) he mentioned just getting caught up in the heat of the moment and slowing down, but still jumping. He was FInALLY owning his mistake, so why change the story now?
Then why do you think he did it? You reckon he thought nobody would notice? The tens of thousands of people in stadium and all the cameras surely wouldn't have their eyes on the guy in first place.

WHY would he jump on a red cross flag if he saw it?
I don't say it's not his mistake and the penalty isn't justified. But I do not believe that he saw the flag. He should have paid attention, yes. But he would have not jumped had he seen it

We really underestimate the role of English being his second language. A big reason his answers are less articulate and more repetitive than those of his competitors is that he has fewer words to draw from to say EXACTLY what he means. Words have different shades of meaning that are difficult for non-native speakers to grasp, so he has to be careful. I'm certain that the team helps him craft his responses so to ruffle as few feathers as possible.

Unfortunately, people seem to ENJOY being offended these days, especially around here, so Marvin loses either way. Unsure

Why do I think he did it? Let's take him at his word when he said that he just got caught up in the heat of the moment leading the race and slowed, but still jumped. He said so himself, a few times. That was all good. He made a mistake and paid for it with points and $300 in purse money.

So why change the story on IG the next day and claim that he didn't "realize" the red cross flag was out. Again, bullshit. Maybe someone "coached" him on what the write. I don't know. I do know that he has history of trying to weasel out of situation like this, which was the entire point of the thread. There are a lot of reason to like Marvin: he is animated, gives detailed answers, is talented as hell, seems like a genuinely nice guy, etc. Lying when he is uncomfortable isn't one of them.

Listen to GuyB's post-race interview in which Marvin acknowledges the red cross flag (to be fair, he doesn't explicitly say that he saw it.) Also, rewatch the footage and tell me you really don't think he saw the waving flag that he jumped two feet next to; the flagger was standing on the track, not just on the sidelines. The flag was waving well before Marvin got to it. I don't see the world through his eyes, but I'm pretty confident in saying that he saw the flag.

Musquin is the shiznit this is stupid. I can only image you're not very traveled around the world to different countries and you live in your little bubble.

I wish they could all be like Blake Baggett when it comes to answering questions and post-race press conferences. I think Baggett would be even more fun if the others would follow suit just a little. Other than Baggett, they are all boring as fuck to listen to and ramble the same shit while rarely answering the actual the question. Marv is one of the worst in that regard, but certainly not alone.

It's ok that we have different opinions, but I don't think you can reasonably dispute the facts.

I also have no clue how travel is relevant or what you're implying? I've been around a fair amount, but never to France. I have, however, heard great things about a place in France with a hole in the wall. It's supposed to be quite the spectacle, and it's on my bucket list.

Cognition isn't as simple as TV replay makes it out to be. Despite our full field of vision, the brain can only process details of what our eyes look at directly.

Last summer I got pulled over for making an illegal U-turn. The cop says, "Did you see the sign?" And I said, "Sure, I saw it in my rear-view mirror once I saw you coming after me, but I didn't see it at the time."

So I went back to the intersection later, and there were two signs, clearly posted, clear as day. Impossible to miss. Except I didn't see shit.

Give the guy a break. I think his eyes were up, looking to the next corner.

the most important thing i take from this is that rules are only for some......
last race i saw, as every one, a rider break the rules and get away with it, its on the rule book, every one saw it, all cameras recorded it, but theres this thing called bandwagon, its something that some rider have, so i guess the rule book was on that riders bandwagon and there was no mean to impose the proper penalty for what he did.......
now this week i guess it was the oposite, this rider doesnt have a bandwagon, so the rulebook was there to be imposed..
same team, diferent nationalities, go wonder !!!!........ i seen it already, in AMA cheating is alowed, as long as its for the "good" side......

No not bingo. Where do you people get that some people aren't fans purely because he's French? If that was the case shouldn't similar threads be made about Ferrandis? What about Soubeyras? Last year when Cedric was wronged by Hansens team and then picked up by HEP Suzuki he seemed to have unanimous support here. I'm sure they are a select few idiots who do dislike French people but I'm also pretty sure those people are few and far between.

I think those that claim he's disliked purely because he's French just don't want to admit that he's not that great at telling the truth in certain situations. FWIW I don't think this specific situation is a great example of what the OP is trying to say as Marv did own it and took responsibility.

Never said nobody likes him. He's very deservedly a liked and respected rider by most people. What I, and GoldenKTM was saying is that most people who complain about him here on the forum doesn't always have a logical racing related reason to dislike him.

Don't confuse haters on vital with "everyone" Tongue
Thankfully they are a small minority in the grand scheme of things.

A lot of dudes make aggressive passes, cross jump and even are flakey in explaining themselves.

Marv gets more flak than others for the same exact thing because he is an “outsider”. It’s not that he’s French, he could be Chinese or from Mars, if he’s not like the viewer he gets more heat.

Not saying it’s the sole reason but it’s a significant factor for most.

I completely disagree. If Marvin is an "outsider" it's because of the things he's said/done, not because he's French. Look at Ferrandis, he wasn't that well liked when he first went to the US because he seemed to be trying to take everyone out, but he quickly learned that wouldn't fly and has cleaned things up and it now seems the guy is liked by most fans. Obviously Marv is not out there to take everyone out but he could possibly learn a thing or two from Ferrandis in my opinion.

That's not to even mention all the other riders that aren't from the US (I'm guessing that's what you mean when you say that Marv is "not like the viewer") such as Roczen or Reed, you know, the two biggest draws in SX.

I see where you’re coming from.

Don’t know if I agree with your last point.

Kenny and Chad both had a lot of haters coming. Both faced a lot of adversity with class and overcame it. They gained a lot fans through that.

Edit: Actually don’t worry about responding if you were man. Arguing on the Internet stresses me out. Have a good day brother.

It's a pointless argument anyway to be completely honest, Marvin's an amazing rider and deserves a lot more respect than he gets. You have a good one as well!

Here is his IG post denying he saw the Red Cross flag. Everything I have heard thus far (podium interview and GiyB post-race interview) he mentioned just getting caught up in the heat of the moment and slowing down, but still jumping. He was FInALLY owning his mistake, so why change the story now?
You're right. Click-bait for sure. Should have said, "My OPINION on the real reason..."

I thought he was pretty forthcoming about his mistake both in the press conference when I asked about it, and in the one-on-one afterward.
