I swear there was a thread about a year ago with people sharing their experiences of getting passed by pros. I couldn't find it on the search function but some of the stories were absolute greatness.

Please share or re-share.

When I went to Lommel last year, Marshall Welton & a kid called Maxine Renaux was there. As everyone knows, Lommel is a really deep sand rack, my first time there, on a 125. I was doing enough to stay up & these guys came past me at warp speed, riding on the back wheel, skipping all the bumps. My mind was blown away that day. Watching fast riders ride the sand is a must see.

Back in the 90s Emig jumped over me at GFI Perris Raceway. I looked up and got a perfect view of the bottom of his case.

I want to say it was 2009 when Cole Ceely flew by me at Comp edge. Couldn’t believe how fast he was going

I got passed by both McGrath and Pastrana at a Carlsbad Christmas Gran Prix. I knew they were there so I told my wife who was taking pics to get a shot right before they went around me, it should be easy they're going to lap me at least 3 or 4 times. They did, she didn't. Multiple chances to get a picture of me in front of those guys wasted Sad Laughing One lap I did not hear MC coming and he went by so fast it made me about jump out of my boots. Laughing

Easy for me! I was in the same classes as Reed at our local clubs, so every weekend I would have the pleasure of being passed by him as he would let us all go and blitz through the field.

I can't wait until Rongi#401 comes in here to tell you about all the times I flew past him.

I've ridden a few of my favourite local tracks here and have been passed like I was standing still by Levi Sherwood (he can rail on a dirt bike) Paul Whibley (still fast as on a motocross track) Shane King (he was on his cr500) Courtney Duncan, Cody Cooper, Darryl Hurley, plus many other kiwi legends. Love that our sport can have those kind of moments.

I was at Dr Anza Cycle Park a couple of days before the 1986 Carlsbad USGP , and Jeff Ward on his KX500 passed me many times that day. Another time I was there and Donny Schmit was testing on.his RM125. Now you see him, now you don't.

I was hauling ass around Glen Helen on a Thursday in the late 90s and had a great battle with DV934 on his 125 and Tortelli on his CR250. OK, it wasn't much of a battle. I do remember a sketchy off camber hard pack section that I was struggling with and Tortelli passed my whole pack wide open in a dust cloud thicker than Meg's thighs. WTF?

Few years back Herlings came to Axel after his major leg injury. I was riding for a couple of weeks and feeling better then ever.. Track was really rough as there were constantly 40 riders on the track that day. I felt fast as fuck.

He lapped me twice during my 18 minute moto..

He was so fast that day that when he started riding, most of the people stopped to watch him.

Riding at my local sand track fat cat motoparc, one day in late winter, 5th session, Graeme Irwin turned up late in the day, he literally came by me like I was stood still. Hopping through the sand on the back wheel like it was effortless. I still can’t fathom how these guys ride so fast in the deep stuff but it really is something else to see. Also been there when tommy Searle was riding, however the Irwin one has stuck in my head ever since.

Also was riding at dmp, another local track when darian sanyei turned up, that guy can go fast.

Two times stick out to me

Back when I was a C rider on a 250F, I was wide open down the back straight at Walden (...or what I thought was wide open at the time...) thinking there's no way anyone in the world could be going faster than me ?. Justin Barcia blows past me on a CR85 in a wheelie like I was standing still. Almost took up knitting after that.

Last year Meadow Valley a rider quadded right over my head on something I didn't even realize you could jump that far. At first I was kind of pissed because it was pretty risky for practice. Then I saw his name on his back and went "oh cool, that's Jerry Robin!". Not sure why that made it ok in my mind, but it did lol.

Wednesday practice at E-town. Riding my buddy's CR125. J-Law went flying past me in a corner.

Next lap I see him stopped in same corner. I thought he stalled. Next thing I know hes on the ground wrestling with the guy who was working the hose on the water truck. I remember I kept going thinking something along the lines of "not surprised".

That was the infamous water hose incident where apparently the kid watering the track sprayed him and he decided it was personal. Dropped the bike and went after him the next time by.

I use to watch Chase Sexton pass 450's on his supermini all of the time. One of those 450's being me haha. Ive watched Chase since he was on 50's. It's cool to see him now.

Damon Bradshaw, we were on 80's! It was a big sand track and he lapped me as I was on lap 2 lol! We all knew way back then he would be a legend!

Loretta Lynn's. The one and only time I ever qualified to race there. I actually got the holeshot in the first moto, but that didn't last long. When I came up to the 180 turn just before the camelback, some kid blasted to the inside, block passed me, still cleared the camelback and roosted off. I never had a chance to retaliate - he was gone by the next corner. That kid was Jeremy McGrath.

James Weeks at florida tracks and trails. 250 SX rider, sometimes makes it through the LCQ and sometimes doesnt. You never realize how fast even some of the back of the pack privateers are until they fly by you banging off the rev limiter in every gear they click through.

Trevor Bollinger at a local hare scramble. I was leading my class by two minutes, Thinking I was moving along pretty quick until a he flew by me and was literally gone in the trees within 10 seconds. Usually when the AA guys pass me I can hear them coming up but I didn't even get a chance to move over for him, He didn't seem to mind anyway. Dude was moving so fast looked like he could bulldoze down one of the trees and keep riding.

In 2005 I rode the 250A Pro Sport (now 450) class at Loretta's. When J-Law came around to lap me I could hear him hoopin and hollering while dragging the bars in the corner he passed me in. Dude was wild.

Back in about 06 when RV was on a 250 he flew past me like I was going the opposite direction.. I remember thinking what the fuck was that, I looked up a turn later and he was gone. I was mind blown at the difference in speed!

Practice night at Riverfront Park In Marysville, I was passed by Steve Lamson riding a 125 Honda. The track was crowded and I'm sure he was not trying too hard, however I was amazed at how fast he went by and disappeared.
During a Hangover Marathon at Sand Hill Ranch, Rodney Smith Lapped me a few times. This was after his mx/gp career and was racing off-road stuff. He was so smooth, so relaxed looking you would swear he was just enjoying a trail ride.
You know the pro's are fast, however when you are going as hard as you can and they catch, pass, and leave you so quickly it is hard to imagine how there is such a difference.

1) Kenny Keylon had fallen over in a turn ahead of me at Dade City. As I was coming thru the turn laid over he had picked up his bike and roosted me so hard in the face I had to stop!

2) Tim Ferry was rolling a triple checking it out as I tripled over him. The t-shirt “hey your pretty fast——NOT” came to my mind at the moment Smile

I am from Canada and one year my local club raced one of the national tracks in Ottawa. It was right before the start of the Canadian nationals and a few Canadian pros came out, Tyler Medaglia and Jeremy Medaglia. I made the mistake of racing under 29 A in only my second season racing. I did well in my field, but in each four lap moto, both of these guys lapped me hard. I remember one of them coming up on my into a straight away and I cranked it as far as a good, but by the end of the straight away they’d be gone. There was a huge double that I was struggling to clear, and I was proud of myself for doing it. I came of it one lap right behind Tyler, my nose in the air stretching to clear it, and him in front of me, sideways slowing himself down to not over jump ?

Living in SoCal for 18 years I got to ride (get passed) by lots of great pros, McGrath, Emig, Ward, RV, Alessi, Grant, Dubach, and many more. But nobody blew past me like Bubba did on his KX250 at Glen Helen. I am still in shock 14 years later!

was 18, drove out to california for the lake elsinore national. Went to glen helen on thursday just knowing it was an iconic track and wanting to putt my 250 around. not knowing Thursdays were/are pro days.
Josh grant passed me down hill at what seemed like warp speed. Then bagget and AC on a kx100 blew past me in the rythms by the stands. I went up to joshs box truck asked him for a pair of goggles, he took the sweaty ones off his helmet and threw them at me. Pretty cool, i wore those trick Oakley goggles out over the next couple seasons.

Was on a warm up lap at ECMX in NC, a track I've been going to since 89. Some squirrel came out of nowhere hauling ass. That squirrel was Alex Ray.

I was fortunate enough to move from NY at 18 years old and work in the industry in So Cal for some years when I was younger. While I was out there might of been 2004 or 2005 Cycle News had rented out Cahuilla Creek for an industry ride day and I made the trip from Oceanside to ride with some buddys who were going. I'm out there doing my thing spinning laps when I hear a mini bike quickly come up behind me revved right out on the gas...before I could even blink this little shit blows me out of my line and rips past me and then about 2 seconds later same thing but its a big bike....and then a few seconds later another dude jumps alongside me over this big tabletop with his bike whipped out sideways as he was passing me....It ended up being a freight train of a young RV on his supermini being chased down by Ryan Hughes and a retired Jeff Emig chasing Ryno. For a 21 year old kid from NY who grew up racing thru that whole 90's era I thought that was pretty bad ass to be on the track at the same time with two of my childhood heroes, and what would eventually be one of the greatest racers ever RV.

What happened to Courtney Duncan? I remember she was flying at hangtown on a 125 years ago. Looked fast! Excellent corner speed.

I believe it was Courtney Duncan but 2013 at Lorettas i saw her on a YZ125 off the start completely weed herself! I was in those bleachers right there by the start and it was dirty. She went flipping into the first turn with the whole pack right behind her. One of the scariest crashes I've ever seen

Yeah... I believe it was '81 at Mammoth in the 125 pro class. The year the Warren Reid won all 3 pro classes. He passed me twice, in the same moto. Front wheel high, powering through the whoops.... Will never forget that speed.

In 1985 at Goodtimes Motocross park in Texas, Danny Storbeck blew past me like I was sitting still.
