an actual rookie......?

so what about A1 in 2018? Do we not count Cooper's 9th place in that? I mean Covington got 11th in his first SX but that's completely lackluster compared with Cooper's 9th?

I'm confused.... Huh

EDIT... and just for the record, I have nothing against Cooper, I was very impressed when I saw him at the USGP and although I'm not 100% sure he is the future Wink , he is a very talented kid.

I know. Ken's first attempt at SX, in A1. Hopes are higher than we hope But, Osborne finally delivered

I don’t know much about Covington and I realize he’s a SX rookie but I’m sure factory Husky expects him to make the main. Everyone has an off night but I was really surprised to see him going backwards to 8th in the LCQ.

I really like Covington because he seems like a really nice guy and i thought him doing the GPs was cool. But that was shocking for a factory 250 rider!

I wonder why people "in the know" were saying that he looked better than what they expected on the SX track before the East coast series started? Unless he completely chokes on race day because of him being nervous? I don't know, i hope he figures things out and stays healthy.
Covington is the nice dude. That's for sure that I'm going to root fot him

Yep, I'm a Covington fan too, but he needs to make the main. He's a GP winner... Definitely not helping the reputation of GP riders.

it has nothing to do with GPs...fuckin ridiculous, what it has to do with is Thomas simply not making the main, which is not good obviously. He will beat himself up over it and not let it happen again.

Man am I old. I remember when MX was king and SX was just a way for riders to make some income during the winter and a fun distraction for the fans while we waited for the snow to melt. Now, it seems, all the money is in the stadiums and we stopped dominating the des nations so MX is just for wussies that can't win indoors.

I watch SX. I enjoy the racing and am absolutely dumbfounded by the skill required/displayed. BUT, if any rider came out and said, "I'm gonna stick to the outdoors cause I just can't get comfortable on an SX track"....I'd be totally cool with that.

McGrath was the king of SX but didn't set the world on fire outdoors...and there have been really good MX guys that have had shortened careers trying to master SX.

Why not just enjoy the races and leave the derogatory comments in your head?

You know what makes the GP's look good? When they kick our asses all over motocross tracks.

He didnt want to jump triples when many LCQ guys were jumping them and he could not keep pace without doing same combos. He go corner speed and all but if you dont do what others are willing to do you are out. Week before he was around top10 when jumped same stuff. #377 looked just same when he wasnt into SX anymore his last races with Husky. He was just waiting outdoors.

Yup. And until we have an amateur series that runs our national tracks with the pros like EMX in Europe we will continue to get it kicked.

Do you not remember RJ going 1-1 in MX2? He had never even come close to winning an AMA outdoor Moto before that.

Maybe he just isn't that into SX?

Obviously he's playing it safe to show his stuff outdoors. He hasn't looked so good indoors yet but we gotta give the kid a break here.

it's got nothing to do with "the reputation of GP riders". Two completely different sports...he's a total rookie at SX, but I fully expect he'll crush it outdoors. I just hope his confidence isn't too beat down by the time outdoors rolls around.

Look at it this way: would you rather "survive" your rookie year in SX and unleash outdoors, or pull an Albertyn and try to crush it in supercross, beginning a never-ending cycle of injuries? Albertyn was dominant outdoors in Europe, but never won the AMA title untle 1999 - I think 4 years after he came over. Supercross decimates people that haven't done it for a while.

Covington is the real deal outdoors, and I for one can't wait to see him live this summer...he got a raw deal in the MXdN in England...that was a poor representation of his skillset...

I have faith in Thomas. I know his results will be terrible in SX this year , but he'll be way better outdoor's , and come next season in SX I bet we see a major improvement. Such an awesome kid , but he's finding out that there is a steep learning curve in SX. I think he'll be just fine in the long run.

Kennys first attempt in SX in 2011

Qualifying doesn't equal a points finish......

Roczen still did well in his first regional SX race, finishing 7th. He didn't finish first, though, so posting the qualifying times to infer that he did is a bit disingenuous.

He’d better smoke everyone outdoors (and I sincerely hope he is battling for wins, we need more fast guys there) or this will be his last factory ride...it was his first supercross, but he didn’t look great. And I’m sure Husky isn’t paying him for top 15’s in a regional supercross series.

I know all the GP fan boys are hoping he was/is going to smoke everyone so they can do the whole “he was barely top 5 in MX2, and he’s winning in America...see? GP’s are better. Told ya so!” thing.
He won motos in the mx2 class... so barely top 5? i don't think so.

and you mention the GP fan boys... I'm tired of hearing them as well.

GP guys are not overall faster... im so tired of hearing this crap. One race doesn't mean a damn thing.

Just because (arguably) the fastest guy in the world right now is a GP racer, every jumps on the train and says "OMG SEE AMERICA SUX GP GUYS R WAY BETTA!!11!!1"

Josh Grant of all people swept both GP motos at glen hellen in 2015. That included everyone except Herlings. But yet people say "The GPs have been better than us for YEARS!!!" No i dont think so.

Then the next year Tomac swept all of his moto's at glen helen, and Charlotte... and that included running down cairoli and passing him. he went 1-1-1-1. and Americans won all of the MX2 motos also... which included webb beating herlings.

THEN Herlings comes to Iron man in 2017.... yes he won the motos, but Musquin posted the FASTEST lap of ANYONE all day... He was all over herlings the entire moto, couldn't get the pass, but regardless, was up his ass. (I still have the nbcsports gold pass, so i literally just watched both races. It's not like herlings ran away with it)

Then we have jacksonville where R.J. hampshire swept both of HIS motos, and Tomac went 1/3.

So im really really really tired of hearing people choking on the balls of the MXGP guys because they are NOT faster. The talent pool is NO different. You will have days where Europeans will win, and days where Americans will win. Neither one is significantly faster or more talented than the other.... And yet i still see people saying how the AMA guys have fallen off, and they are no where near their European counter-parts....yea ok... and especially after the MXoN its gotten worse.... sorry boys but once race doesn't mean a goddamn thing.

Too true. The problem with the "anonymity" of social media is that folks don't filter themselves like they would in old fashioned face to face conversations.

Do you think the people that post; Ricky/Ralph suck, Covington sucks at SX so GP riders must suck, Feld/AMA are on the take for not allowing CBD sponsor promotions on the broadcasts....would say the same things face to face?

We used to call people that talked behind someone's back...chickenshits. There are ways to express displeasure with riders or situations without the hateful degrading comments.

Before you dismiss me as some whiny snowflake bitch...I fully admit I used to be a knee-jerk prick, that let the ignorance in my head, freely spout out of my mouth. Age, experience, and being surrounded by better humans than myself led me to some self examination. I'm a work in progress but I like where I'm headed.
